Hi,

Yesterday, I received through eBay a copy of EU1 CD (for my collection) that I had purchased online but I question the originality of this CD.


- CD version is 1.07uk. I upgraded to 1.10uk but when I want to play the game, a blank screen and a message "EU CD Not Found" appears on the screen forcing me to close the game. My DVD Drive is D, I'm using Windows XP SP3 and there are no others external or virtual drives on the PC.

- The music files are missing from CD. I know that in my old (now gone) copy of the game, the music files are stored on the CD in audio CD format. These files are accessible using Audio CD player but are nowhere in the CD that I just purchased.

- "Windows XP Compatible" is written on the box, which I find odd.

- Nowhere can I find on the box or on the CD the release date (usually 2001).


Is this CD is original (or not)?
Please kindly advice.

PS: Yes, I'm well aware that I can buy EU1 at GG, in fact I had two digital copies, one I bought from GG and another one from FireFlowerGames - but none of them are complete. Both are missing the music files which only available in hard copy version. In a twist of irony, this hard copy that I bought from a reputed seller is also missing those music files.
 
That certainly looks like the original box I have aside from the publisher's mark. The CD does not look much like mine, but yours is a Paradox-published version whereas mine is published by Strategy First. The box is marked Copyright 2001 Strategy First. I don't specifically remember back that far, but perhaps the original version I have was before Paradox did any of their own publishing, and when they did publish it later the music was omitted for reasons of space, or something else.

But what specifically makes you fear it's a pirated copy, rather than just having some technical problem? Just the lack of music files? Mine has them, but as I say it's from a different publisher. I can supply you with those files if that's your only concern.

My apology for the late reply, I forgot to set up email alert for this thread.

As I have stated in my post above, the first specific reason is the inability to play version 1.10. If the CD is original and released by Paradox, it is a worthy collection for me but I still need to know how to settle the issue with the inability to play version 1.10.

From YouTube I learn that Strategy First version was released under version 1.10. If this CD in question right now is original, from Paradox, stated that it is XP compatible, that means this version is released much-much later, but strangely enough its version is only 1.07. This makes it look very suspicious to me.

I realize this is a late reply, but I have the boxed Strategy First copy that Andrew mentioned. I'll dig it out and update this post with the version information. I do know that the CD in your post has different artwork, and I'm pretty sure mine does include the music.

Thanks but I've got it covered and found out the answer to the issue.
I've bought from Amazon two sealed Strategy First version. :)
And as predicted the patches works perfectly.

I realized that the issue may have been with the subsequent releases by other studio that removed the DRM.
It turns out that all the patches seeks for the DRM in the disk.
 
I realize that once again this is a late reply, but when backing up some game CDs in my possession I finally was able to install and check the version included in my big box Strategy First copy of EU1. It is 1.07c, and the music is absent from the files on the disc.

Just some detail for posterity.
