Yes! Wolne Miasto Kraków FTW!

Give a Cracow a better looking flag plx

I think Krakow has a core in Poland in 1444, so you could release as vassal -> play as.

EDIT: Haha, 1444. 1944 was a bad typo.

Yeah, I know. I've done it in the past as Holland. I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to that, but if that's the worst case scenario than so be it. Surrounded by blobs should make that a fun one to start with.

Start as Poland, move your capital someplace other than Krakow then release Krakow as your vassal a tick the box "play as released vassal". This should not break ironman. :)
I don't think you can play as any of your subject nations in Ironman, except for Colonial Nations.

Yes you can. Did that with Burgundy->Flanders.

Should Kraków (and, while were at it) Danzig have it's own NI? In the new mechanics they should be client states, WMK was a "small Poland" created by Austria, and Danzig was just a Prussian trade city with bigger authonomy (this is: in the end of the game frame, I'm not talking about free city of Danzig as it was done after IWW).

Danzig/Gdansk have their own national ideas I believe. They have their own core at least.

I didn't even know there's a releasable independent Krakow in EU IV. Doesn't form very often, does it? I've never seen it happen.
