((Well now I want to see Bismarck go socialist just to see a piano fall on his head. :p))

I suppose a duel is more efficient than the endless bickering that usually occurs around her. Perhaps next time though you can all settle your disputes by shooting our enemies like the Poles or French instead of wasting ammo on each other.

((Nah, he'll be the Elder Statesman of our little Republic. Longest serving Chancellor, baby))

((I will drop a piano on Bismarck's head if he turns socialist, or some other manner of surprise death.))

((I'm sure we can find some historical basis for a socialist Bismarck... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_Socialism_(Germany) :p

On a similar note, actually, how Communist is Karl Marx at this point? As I understand it, he's been the voice behind the Jacobin revolutions throughout Europe, but these have been setting up free-market lassez-faire democracies rather than the socialist planned-economies I'd expect from the eponymous Marxist. Are we expecting some other bearded orator to appear and kick off the proletariat uprising, or is TTL!Marx going to change his mind about the free market?

Or even, do we have some sort of proletariat revolution -> bourgeois revolution -> socialist state thing going on, with the Jacobins just being the stage-1 proletariat revolution to kick things off? That'd be rather neat.))

Regarding socialism: the non-interventionist in me would actually prefer to let the game create socialism in its own time.

((To be honest, I kinda agree with you. As much as I'd like to see the Workers Of The AAR Unite and Throw Off the Chains of their Capitalist Oppressors, using the console to kick off the Revolution does feel a bit like cheating.

In other news: I've done a quick wget+grep to see who's posted since the last election, and it looks like almost all parties have at least two active people in both the Assembly and the Conclave. The only exception in the Conclave are the DDA, who only have one Stadtholder. But more seriously, the New Society only have one Assembly member - Hals Gutfreund - looking after their whole 32% share of the vote.

Things could change around once the public start voting for the Social Democrat Party, though. So it may be sensible for me to put together a New Society member of the Assembly, but if the Communist Manifesto gets written sooner rather than later, then that would make it the best time to join the Socialist cause. Decisions, decisions... (Yay for overthinking things!) ))

((Secondary character time! Avindian-approved.))
Name: Hans Roethe
Birthdate: 1814
Biography: Born in the dockyards of Kiel, Roethe had money and was prepared to enter into the lucrative banking profession after attending the Kiel Universität. However, much to the chagrin if his family, he instead became a reporter at the Kiel Zeitung. After several pieces on the "sorry state of German politics" he rose up quickly through the ranks. In a coup d'tat in 1855, he seized control of the Zeitung from its previous owner, and turned it into a national newspaper rather than a regional one. Though he still reports, he mainly writes editorials on German politics and economics.

((I can smell socialism....Wanna join my to be party ?)))

((Remember last time you tried to create a party and Avi had to tell you to STOP POSTING ON EVERY PAGE? I'm pretty sure that still applies.))

((I only posted one recruiting message, and invite every new player once.We just had a insurge of new players lately))

((Just PM your Bolshevik friends; please don't flood the thread with it. Also, starting socialism manually? You can't wait for it to naturally happen? Is stealing people's money THAT important? Sheesh.))

((In any case, Roethe is a secondary character with no voting rights of any kind.

DutchGuy, please use PMs to recruit for the socialist party; one post in-thread is enough. Also, no socialists will be introduced into the game until our next election drive, at the earliest, which means 1862. Unless, of course, the game gives us some.

EtzelHoveri, please feel free to post your plans for the war in-thread. If you need to make modifications, that's fine, but I'd like to play and/or update sometime this weekend.

PTSnoop, I haven't given much thought to the ideological underpinnings of our brand of socialism. This is another reason why I want the game to fire off the Socialist revolution, so I can crib from whatever country's history it fires as. Regarding the NS, Lord English was once active but has since fallen off.

I'll resolve the duel sometime this evening, I need to work up proper mechanics for it. Does anybody know of tabletop RPGs set in this period, from which I might steal borrow mechanics?))

That okay? Also Greatuber is in command of the African Corp.))

((You guys wanna know irony? Otto von Bismarck will leave office as Chancellor around the same time he came into power OTL. He was Chancellor from 1861 to 1890 OTL... ironically, he will stop being Chancellor in this RP after the 1862 election due to term limits! Ha! Gotta love being the elder statesman, bruh.))

(( You're not done yet! You could still pass a law to remove the term limits. No guarantees against a coup in your coalition if you try it though.))

German News: Kiel Zeitung Editor to found new newspaper, Das Deutschland.
It has been proclaimed as the first 'truly national' newspaper in Germany. It will deliver anywhere and everywhere in Germany, from train stops to city halls. Herr Roethe, editor of both the Zeitung and the new daily newspaper, has said that translators will be working around on the clock on translating Das Deutschland to native languages throughout Germany. When asked if funds would be diverted from the Kiel Zeitung, he had no comment. Prominent in the newspaper will be editorials written by Herr Roethe and other staff members about in his words, 'German politics, culture, media, technology, economics-you name it, Das Deutschland will cover it.' It will also have European and world news along with the more prominent German news. The first issue will be coming out later today.

((Nah, Bismarck is too respectful of tradition and law to do something that underhanded.))
