(I.C. mostly)Sorry that got so long but feel that a big problem with the nat. libs. is that the go for pure efficiency over things that may not be optimal but help so many people prosper and live their lives. It's hard for me to care that companies can't get 5 % more profit when that profit doesn't benefit the workers in any significant way beyond abstract platitudes. Whats the point of a good economy if no one feels it because chamber of commerce types our obligated to make sure that none of it can go to the communities, instead getting shuffled around for their benefit alone. And then when inevitable downturns occur they say the same thing over and over again, "The market requires a sacrifice from you but not from me and that's the only way. I fully believe that you earnestly believe that we all benefit, but that hard to see when we all don't benefit visibly and when the chips are down only the common people suffer.

Where do Milton Friedman say that he want to crush unions? And his theories have never been tried ((since we're in1960 or 1958 now)) so you can't say that they don't work. But they are more reasoneble, and we can see that with what Keynes would describe as a low conjecture, that is the economy going down with rising unemployment, even with large government investments which would according Keynes raise demand and employment. However the contrary happened; unemployment rose and we entered a so called low conjecture. This do greatly indicate that the government actually can't detirmine demand and stimulate to employment through expansive financial politics. Let it be a more healthy approach.

Monetarism is in many ways based upon Keynes' monetary policies. However no one have followed them and disregard them. And the effects of that is horrible. A massive decrease in purchasing power, increasing unemployment, lower real-wages and in turn demand.

Will have to see since you'll likely get monetarism you want, I just worry about this stuff the national government said the same thing about cuts.

Woooo! We won in Suez suckas! And it is good that we have our own nuclear arsenal. This will keeps us away from the grip of Moscow and Washington!

But for what gain, the People of Egypt want the ability to make their own decisions, but As I doubt the king we put back on the throne will actually create a democratic government, we will be in the same boat in at most a decade? (Goddamn coalition) It does us no good to merely secure the loyalty of petty sheiks and lords and ignore the Arab world. If their are Nat. Libs, Who truly want a free world they would join me in allowing the Egyptian to by a stake in the canal. and work to actual create a democratic middle east even if theirs a chance it hurts our interests!

Well take for example cutting in direct taxes and increasing indirect taxes. The households will get more money, and the bussinesses will get more money which they then can use for infreased production and employment. That means that spending will go up, and with increased indirect taxes that spending will be taxed which will generatemin increased netto taxation.

((And IRL after the monetarist policies of Thatcher had paid off, it was lower unemployment and inflation and higher GDP than when Thatcher came into office. So it did work. But that is off-topic, but is an answer to your claims that it won't work and never have worked. The evidence is that it did work.))

From what I remember the National Liberals didn't like the intervention. However it was an unlawful Egyptian aggression who broke international treaties and attacked British land. We had every right to intervene. And while disposing the government is wrong idealistically speaking, I understand it because of real-political matters.

Excellent. The gauntlet has been laid down. Commies, watch out. The Empire is back and kicking commie ass. Nasser goes into the trash heap of history where he belongs.
We need to send troops to Indonesia to help our American allies defeat the commie menace there. Most Importantly, WE HAVE THE BOMB, watch out Stalin, you're next.

EDIT: Must not forget: NO SURRENDER TO THE IRA

It is irrelevant whether the Egyptian people have a king or a president, for as long as the Suez Canal belongs to its rightful owner - us. (and also the baguettes, I suppose)

I'm not opposed to GST Tax, rethinking subsidies, and even perhaps trying to find a tax rate that the wealthy will actually pay while still allowing the state to protect the ability for people to live thrive regardless of their connections and such.

I don't like Nasser much at all but I want his replacement to benefit Egypt, and for us to actually grow a new democratic Egypt even if it means selling some of our shares in the canal to them. Would you join me in crafting such a policy or Is this mad?

Oh how could I forget! Amazing feats when it comes to securing our position by devoloping a nuclear arsenal and ICBM's! And I think we should aid America and the people of Indonesia. They have already attacked Australia! And Australia is nominally a part of our Empire, it is a part of the Commonwealth, is a sovereign nation and is an awesome country! We need to defend our brethren and save Indonesia from Socialism.

They have already proven to be aggressive. For all we know they may start to attack other asian countries and Australia. And they are in a strategic position. Or it may simply encourage the USSR and China to expand further! I say we should send our troops and ships to Indonesia.

That is applible with Monetarism.

I don't think it is mad. I think we should indeed let the Egyptians develop a democratic government. However we have to protect our sovereign land. And the Suez canal was by all means ours. But I was under the impression that you were opposed to us protecting the canal and overthrowing the government.

But we must think long term Fellow Members, the best way to secure the canal is a truly secure Egypt, which would be a democratic Egypt. and perhaps even a democratic Arab federation that acknowledges Israel's right to exist!

No, But I am wary of us merely setting up another puppet and then being surprised when shit like this happens again.

The Arabs don't allow it now. Why would they allow it when they become such a major nation? The only thing they have in common is their hate for Israel.

I agree.

Is she a love interest for you or something? She have done nothing and yet you go on and on about how she is our savior and congratule her etc.

(( :p ))

Looks like our first election with no electoral pacts is approaching. The next parliament is probably going to be very divisive.

Yes indeed. Can be interesting times. Especially with war on the horizon in Asia!

Maybe went a bit far their, but the main thing is that Egypt should be allowed to decide its own affairs which may means at least letting them buy into the canal you know? A man can dream no?

In my Radical days I would be disturbed by how much I agree a pseudo Tory :D
