Chapter 1
867 - 880
Chief Guanareme I of Canaries
Part I

So here we are:

1.jpg

Clearly nothing. No buildings, no technology, no boats and only 225 army.

40 gold with income 0.5 per month.

2.jpg

Me, my son and grandson. At least, random gave some nice stats.

First goal? Getting some boats for raids. The only way is through stealing technology by spymaster/increasing by marshal.

Advisors:

3.jpg

Vizier - doing claims in Ireland (it doesn't matter, but at least some additional piety)
Marshal - technology
Steward - collecting tax
Spymaster - stealing in Sinope, one of best provinces, which start with 6 7 6 techs
Diviner - technology

Wife:

4.jpg

Without marrying my son, I rather prefer to control all dynasty and for sure I will have some kids.

Not even one year passed, and I'm having first results.

5.jpg

I need to have 100 points in military techs for pushing shipbuilding, unlucky got economy points. Considering I'm count, I can't produce points by myself... only through advisors or migration, which I can't affect.

6.jpg

The power of marriage.

8.jpg

It will not help with techs, but some flavour is welcome.

10.jpg

Well, two less mouths to feed.

9.jpg

Sinope (or spymaster) so grateful. 50 for economy and 50 for military. 50 more and will be some action around Canarian Empire.

The year is 871 so only few years ahead.

13.jpg

My another offsprings.

12.jpg

Ghana went for shia around 874, not sure if by war or missionary, but probably the latter. Hopefully, damn traitor can't produce male heir.

In the meantime, I improved stewardship, my steward got killed by angry peasants and I got fourth son, called Beddis.

15.jpg

I will not cry, he was weak after all.

14.jpg

Didn't get any events from spymaster for a long time, so builded castle town for 140/all my gold around 880 year. My income went from 0.5 to 0.7! It will take "some" years to pay off.

Chapter 2
880 - 900
Chief Guanareme I of Canaries
Part II

1.jpg

Second daughter and fifth son. I called him unlucky, but more in future about him.

1.jpg

Starting grandson become adult, not bad.

1.jpg

Unfortunately, more economic points. By the way, as anyone can see, spymaster started working in Constantinople, Sinope is lagging with techs.

1.jpg

Will he live until first canarian ships are constructed?

1.jpg

Certainly, money fit into envelope.

1.jpg

Again for economy, I'm having 200 points there... still needing 50 for military. However, good news, shipbuilding is slowly passing into province so if I will wait long enough, I will not need points from advisors.

1.jpg

These children grows up so quickly. (third and fourth son)

1.jpg

Yes, now 250 in economy.

After all this successful missions my spymaster was caught, imprisoned and blinded. It will not stop him from stealing technology, so I sent him to Constantinople again.

The year is 896, so almost 30 years since start of the game. Maybe you don't feel as time passes, but I do.

1.jpg

The fifth son, Unlucky, was the only one, who wasn't tutored by me. His brother failed while educating him... so I had to kill him. Kinslayer or not. I don't care.

I changed to ultimogeniture instanly and now Beddis is my heir.

1.jpg

Finally in 897, where marshal and spymaster failed me, migration saved me. For 150 gold (I have 200 in total) I started construction of castle shipyard, what will give me 4 ships in future.

In 898 construction ended, but I still need wait years for ships to show up in my docks.

1.jpg

At least he is going to die after initiating big changes in Canarian nation.

1.jpg

New ruler, half-norse, half-berber, best combination for some pirating.

1.jpg

Whole family. As you can see, I don't even make a single mention about ladies, but I'm not tutoring them/selling (marrying) them off to other nations, so they're basically placeholders.

Nice starting moves; it might be difficult for you to stay West African, especially since Ghana converted so soon; hopefully they'll collapse eventually.
I'm curious to see what you'll manage to achieve!

Chapter 3
900 - 918
Chief Beddis I of Canaries

1.jpg

Thanks to wig, he looks more badass.

1.jpg

Only chief is allowed to have wife. Picked her mainly for strong trait, the sooner with genetic the better.

1.jpg

Time for little personality.

1.jpg

Used all points for two levels of construction.

1.jpg

My favorive event. Got 5 in a row, one in 903, 904, 905, 906 and 907 getting 150 points for military and 100 for economy in total. For next level of shipbuilding I need 200 points (and it won't spread by itself soon) so maybe I'm getting lucky.

1.jpg

Handy.

1.jpg

Coincidence? I doubt.

1.jpg

In 905 some ships finally popped up, more than 5 years after building shipyard. My oldest brother, brilliant strategist and holy warrior, will lead expedition into mainland.

After all, historical year, which will mark end of canarian isolation.

1.jpg

Umayyads going crazy. Shia Ghana created Kingdom of Mali, but only existed few years to be absorbed by them.

Aoudaghost ruled by successful peasant rebel.

1.jpg

Shia response: conquering Egypt from Tulunids.

1.jpg

In 906 first "expedition" went back to home. I won't go into details, cause it's boring and I will try spam raiding as much, as I can. Primarily around Iberia.

In 907, next successful looting.

1.jpg

30 gold is so small amount, so I stopped raiding for a while waiting for fourth ship

1.jpg

Will be useful.

1.jpg

In 912, looks promising.

1.jpg

First serious investment, waiting for new ships.

Building castle walls in the castle by the way.

My income will go from 0.7 to 2.0, with me holding the city.

1.jpg

First battle in canarian history. After danish raiders beaten up galician army, I killed them off.

In 914, got another 40 gold/prestige.

1.jpg

Canaries approves.

1.jpg

After I saw it, I told him to take try with technology.

1.jpg

The oldest brother, posted as curiosity.

1.jpg

Yes, my last living brother. Probably he didn't wanted to share fate of the rest. Gathering soldiers in one of the islands, everything is getting serious now.

1.jpg

I was expecting something more from my court.

1.jpg

During some raid Umayyad civil war ended, and my army got annihilated. Truly run of misfortune.

1.jpg

Well... I just appointed grand mayor for city, to not get game over after loosing war.

1.jpg

Looks great! Following this!
Thanks!

Nice starting moves; it might be difficult for you to stay West African, especially since Ghana converted so soon; hopefully they'll collapse eventually.

The real problem will be expanding. I wanted to create "blob" base in Ireland but Norse don't disappoint.

1.jpg
At least, I'm safe in Canaries itself. (or I just thought so)

A very interesting idea :).

Chapter 4
918 - 927
Chief Tifan I of Canaries
Part I

1.jpg

Older brother in power. For now, I decided to not marry him and keep inheritance throught offspring of previous chief.

At start, imprisoned and banished lord mayor to have city in demesne.

Overview after successful conquest

Pros:
-Free 1700 army
-Free 540 gold
-Great general with 20 military

Neutral:
-Inheritance went back to gavelkind (so my brother, who was chief, gonna inherit, not his children)
-Little worse ruler

Cons:
-Canaries are having "recently conquered" and "new administration" flags
-Need to wait for troops/ships to replenish
-Loosing all tech points (150 in military and 100 in economy), pretty much painful
-Loosing 160 gold from previous ruler

2.jpg

Few days after wining the war. Of course stopped that plot.

2.jpg

In the following years all my nephews become adults.

First one looks promising.

1.jpg

My favorite. After he got wounded during improving techs, I decided to use him only to train troops.

1.jpg

Technology situation. Additional points went for military.

2.jpg

Sister (who wanted to kill me) and some random niece lost eyes. No one cares.

2.jpg

Despite shia and now sunni control, everything is staying west african.

Chapter 5
927 - 939
Chief Tifan I of Canaries
Part II

1.jpg

After modifiers went off and some cash came, temple was built.

1.jpg

I haven't choice. For betrayal there is only one punishment.

2.jpg

Brother died, my new heir is starting grandson of first chief. Because of this I changed laws to ultimogeniture again and some nephew became heir.

12.jpg

Beddis got deppresion after loosing father and wife, moved then to mother court and after few years died... best nephew lost with his gold.

(gold is going to person who "own" court so not me)

Nothing I can do about it.

3.jpg

Due to having poor heir I arranged marriage. Unfortunately it ended with only one daughter.

4.jpg

Marshal in action with two more ships thanks to him!

5.jpg

After long break (12 years) new raids. Two in 930 and one in 931.

9.jpg

Couldn't be better.

10.jpg

Standing army will be used sooner than I thought.

11.jpg

Oldest living nephew decided to follow my footsteps. I had 2 choices. Wait, defend and get 500 free gold... or imprision, which I did. I didn't wanted to slow down my conquests any more.

14.jpg

Third nephew has been busy too... I failed to discover that plot.

I decided to add few new rules:

No loading - Just wanted be clear, without it there is no fun.
Be berber no matter what - It's canarian AAR after all, and if someone will assimilate, then it will be the rest of the world.
Canaries as capital - Otherwise would be too easy + it's all about Canaries!
Not using trick with becoming someone vassal. - It kills all fun from playing as low count, I could just go into Hungary or Skotland and blob.
Can't use subjugation if not having shared border. - As previous, would be too easy.

Getting more and more interesting :).

Chapter 6
939 - 945
Chief Isalcas I the Great of Canaries
Part I

1.jpg

Unlucky, worse rulers over time.

And as you can see, I married previous chief wife and take some concubine.

2.jpg

Pretty dangerous situation for family.

4.jpg

3.jpg

The only places, where I can expand. The poorest Finland with Sweden threat, and Taurica, where few empires are clashing each other.

5.jpg

I freed my brother and after few months he wanted some wife so I got someone for him. He's my super (20) vizier, so I need to keep him happy.

6.jpg

After 3 months of working. Great news.

8.jpg

Now some trip to Finland.

7.jpg

That's it, effect of years of working.

9.jpg

Papa being the first target. The richest and the easiest.

11.jpg

Sardinia participating in civil war is easy target too.

16.jpg

Only muslims tried to fight off. Some neutral army changed to aggressive one, when they stepped into me. Having less soldiers, I won.

10.jpg

Thanks to all raids got 800 gold/prestige.

Will be for a lot of buildings. I didn't mentioned it earlier, but as Canaries, I have 0 mercenaries so can't use the simplest "get gold, use mercs, win" tactic.

17.jpg

One more and will be even more boats. (need 150 in military for push)

12.jpg

Bad timing.

13.jpg

My son (from concubine/new wife) and nephew.

18.jpg

Now, while I have 2 claims, I can do some moves into mainland.

Getting more and more interesting :).
And will be even better with Canaries showing up in Europe.

How is it the Umayyads haven't flattened you yet? Keep going! :3
The same reason, why they didn't swallowed Songhay. A lot of civil wars, and if not fighting themselves, then with Spaniards.
At start there is a big chance that Shia Calihpate will atak Canaries, but this time they decided to struggle with Umayyads.
(They don't have boats at start, so caliphate attacking Canaries is like free gold/prestige for the latter.)

Chapter 7
945 - 961
Chief Isalcas I the Great of Canaries
Part II

1.jpg[

Considering Hungary incorporated Lower Don, I'm going to Finland.

2.jpg

Kakisalmians were during a war, so best moment for attack.

3.jpg

Landing.

4.jpg

Again... maybe he was missing having fun in dungeons (or missed his beard)?

5.jpg

Some free gold.

6.jpg

After losing one castle, surrendered.

7.jpg

More gold thanks to priest.

8.jpg

Beautiful colour and new vassal.

1.jpg

Continuing my campaign on weakest finish chief.

2.jpg

Horrible decision.

I left my free army in Finland, which was waiting for troops from Canaries.

Unfortunately, they lost (while having bonus from terrarin and same amount of soldiers) before Canarians came

3.jpg

Although I won second battle and devasted all their forcers, I paid big price for that. Lost almost all my free soldiers while still being unable to siege holdings.

4.jpg

When I was reinforcing troops, host attacked my victim, meaning that my war will be over soon.

5.jpg

New wife, cause previous died.

6.jpg

First one, having claim for newly conquered province.

7.jpg

Second one, aiming at Canaries.

9.jpg

While I was retreating from finnish host to organise my army in Estonia, this happened:

8.jpg

Third one, vassal of Sweden.

10.jpg

Lost rest of my free troops and local army from Finland.

11.jpg

When I was going from Canaries to Finland... some forces of estonian guy landed in my capital, followed by norse army too.

12.jpg

I had to attack from sea, but thanks for religious defensive bonuses I won, while having less soldiers and negatives from landing.

13.jpg

All soldiers from norse host were defeated, so thanks for gold!

14.jpg

Gathered enough prestige for this, mainly thanks to raids.

15.jpg

Naturally, I couldn't defend holdings in Finland.

16.jpg

Nice view.

After liberator won, Songhay joined to him peacefully.

I instantly started doing claim for that one sunni province in duchy of Mali.

17.jpg

Son and nephew.

18.jpg

In 960.

20.jpg

First raiding after all those wars.

21.jpg

Got second son.

22.jpg

And month later main character died.

Gonna play as 0 year old chief, will be fun.

beforeafter.jpg

My main castle, before and after Isalcas rule.

Part I

Newborn ruler.

BmmEsgn.jpg

Succession isn't threatened.

V3xGrOO.jpg

Mali controls 2 holy sites... but only 11 moral authority?

39bQtWZ.jpg

Mhm.

JwSo2Vu.jpg

Lonely Foggia is doomed.

QpPwi8I.jpg

Got that claim but little too late. However, I still paid for it. After all it's only 17 gold and who knows what gonna happen.

HJKrFjn.jpg

Successful liberation of Ireland marks the beginning of the end of the norse rule over Isles.

VCWhqNe.jpg

After irish army helped Dublin was razed to the ground in fast series of assaults.

OnaBp53.jpg

Gold from it.

86YNWz0.jpg

Another try of raiding around Italy ended in losing half of troops. In the same time, but one day earlier, other army landed in province...

F6EKKAI.jpg

Some years later rebelling Galicia became good source of gold.

Again him...

Place, where I will expand.

Petty king was having only that county... so I wasn't waiting with declaring the war.

363D2qs.jpg

This happened when I was almost around Iceland.

6OBEqmo.jpg

Went back, waited for vikings who haven't chances while doing attack from sea.

In effect another free gold.

vlv3uP5.jpg

While I lost some soldiers, 855 were still enough to conquer Iceland.

OwQSYVi.jpg

Great stats, considering it was done by some random AI.

xNW2WOV.jpg

Wife with some nice stats too.

YuOnStu.jpg

Won the war in the following months.

Thanks to mine/wife stats, I can hold all 4 holdings without having some penalties.

QGrkqFe.jpg

Damn, I love him, best brother ever, not like traitors from the past.

9BynPaV.jpg

Noooooo!

Or wait...

V0jUugP.jpg

I was wondering why this happened, but after few seconds of looking I got my answer.

Ksu06t0.jpg

Well, surprise? At the end of his life, being holy warrior of norse religion he decided to convert?

twtKDJJ.jpg

Norway before conversion...

k7Fwm92.jpg

...and after.

Immediately some pretty big faction formed and demanded their rights. Old king accepted without fighting.

Following states were created:

1 - Chiefdom of Austisland

2 - Jarldom of Jamtaland holding also Faroe Islands

3 - Chiefdom of Shetland

4 - Jarldom of Vestalndet

5 - Jarldom of Trondelag

6 - Chiefdom of Finmark

I'm not stupid, and used that bit of luck straight away.

:)

vGCOTeI.jpg

I wanted to continue my campaign towards east... but lost my war due to tooltip.

Some glitch, cause she was independent before and after. Look at spoiler.

GtWDry1.jpg

OEQ6Hj8.jpg

Claim for entire duchy. Yay.

In next chapter war with Scotland!

I'm bloodthirsty after being cheated.

After some minor setbacks, it begins. Soon, all of Europe will proudly bear the Canarian colors.
... wait, is that Ireland in northern Scotland? It appears that the times aren't good for the Norsemen.
