Hello,

cannot start Sengoku. Just bought and installed it.

When I start the game and it starts to load this and that at the beginning it freezes when it has got to load the graphics. It's a lil bit frustrating, because I've got problems with CK2, too^^

I really like the ideas of the paradox games, but if Sengoku won't start it will be the last game i bought from them. Iron Hearts, Victoria, EU they crashed sometimes but they worked, with Sengo and CK2 I've got so many problems, that's really annoying.

Hope someone can help me.

Yours

R.

(this should technically be in tech support, but ah well...)

have you tried the basics?
a) verify integrity of cache (if bought via steam)
b) uninstall, restart pc (optional), and reinstall (if via GG, though via steam as well)

if that doesn't work,
c) updating your video card driver? (I don't know how often AI updates drivers, but you're using a september 28 issue, ie. half a year ago...)

Moved to tech support

No one? I have the same problem, and it seems I am not the only one. The error log say's that:

"[graphicssettings.cpp:755]: The resolution "1366x768" (or something similar) isn't supported by your screen. Please change resolution in settings.txt.[texturehandler.cpp:190]: Couldn't find texture file: gfx\\test\\menu_tiles_1.tga.
[texturehandler.cpp:190]: Couldn't find texture file: gfx\\test\\menu_tiles_dialog_2.tga.
[sound.cpp:240]: Duplicate sound: land_event_02
[sound.cpp:240]: Duplicate sound: money_out"

it crashes when it say's "loading graphics".

My PC is a Win7 64-bit, my resolution on my screen IS 1366x768 and it does support it a 100%. Every other game, both from Paradox Interactive and other work perfectly.

Hi Comintern1919,

I'm sorry for the late reply.

Could you please add a dxdiag of your system? You can read below on how to do that.

  • Open your Start menu
  • Type "dxdiag" in the search field (without quotes)
  • Open the dxdiag program
  • A window called "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" should pop up now
  • At the bottom right-hand side, click on "Save all information"
  • Save it to a place where you can find it easily, for example your desktop
  • Open the file and copy and paste the text between [NOPARSE]
    Code:
    [/NOPARSE] tags.

You can copy the line below and paste the text between the orange tags.
Code:
[COLOR="#FFA500"][NOPARSE][CODE][/NOPARSE][/COLOR]paste text here...[COLOR="#FFA500"][NOPARSE]
[/NOPARSE][/COLOR][/CODE]

Also Ruebezahl,

For you it indeed I'd recommend the video drivers as Riknap already suggested. I am suspecting these are the cause of the problems that you are having with Sengoku and Crusader Kings II.

These should be the correct drivers for you Ruebezahl: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_win8-64.aspx

Hey, no need to say sorry, it's summer, I don't expect you to be on you computer all the time :) .

I hope I did it right!

Ok, looking at your DxDiag, the native resolution of your screen is 1280 x 768 60hz, however you seem to be running your screen on 1366 x 768 with 25hz.

Could you go to your desktop resolution and change the resolution to your native one? Then try restarting the game.

Nope, doesn't work, in the error log it's the same, just with the new resolution instead.

And when I change to 1280 x 768 I can only choose between 25, 29 and 30hz.

But if that's causing the Problem, wouldn't I also have trouble playing other games, especially from Paradox?

Strangely, on my laptop Win7 32bit the game does start. Unfortunality the hardware is not enough to enjoy the game, but it does start normally.

Hmm, weird.

Could you try if updating your drivers has got any effect? These are the up to date ones for you: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_win8-64.aspx

Also please post the logs of your game.

  • Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Sengoku\'
  • Open settings.txt, copy and paste the entire text between [NOPARSE]

Please delete the settings.txt and then restart the game, it will create a new one.

I did it, but where is the new settings.txt now? I can't find it, it's not in the main folder where the original txt was, and the game still crashed with the same error log...

It should automatically be created by the game when loading, though with the crashing it could be that it even crashes before it has the chance to write the new settings.txt file.

Let's try the following:
Go to your '..\Steam\SteamApps\common\Sengoku\' folder and right click on 'sengokugame.exe' Go to the compatibility tab and check to run in 640x480 and 'disable desktop composition'.

Start the game, and change the settings in the in-game menu to 1366 x 768 with 25hz. Close the game, right click on the same exe and uncheck what you checked in the previous step.

Let me know if that solved it.

Does it matter that I bought the game from Gamersgate, not Steam?

Anyway, unfortunately it also doesn't work. The same all over again.

Didn't that problem happened already? When I search it, I find some people having the same problem, usually quite a while ago, but no solution...

It say's 1024x768 even though my resolution is 1366x768 right now. I did run it in 640x480.

I think it has something to do with my PC being 64bit since on my Laptop and the Laptop of my mum, both 32bit, the game does work.

It's a bit of troubleshooting to find the problem currently, but okay. Check please if a new settings.txt has been created though, if it is, then paste it between [NOPARSE]
Code:
[/NOPARSE] tags again.

64bit should not be a problem, quite the opposite actually. Nowadays 64bit is the most common you'll see.

It's a weird problem however, and you haven't had these problems in any other Paradox Game, Crusader Kings II for example (if you have the game)? I will have to do some searching through this forum to see if similar problems exist.

As I said, no new settings.txt.

And I know 64bit is supposed to be better, but that's the only reason I can think of, seeing as it does work on the 32bit Laptops...

Actually, yes, I did! When I first installed Victoria 2 AHD on the PC, it didn't work! Only after a certain Patch (I don't remember which) it worked, also, HOI always worked with all the DLC's, but when I, just for fun, wanted to see the differences between the first version and the newest, I installed just the original HOI 3 without any patches and DLC's, and it didn't work! Same Problem with both, just solved with a patch.
So, there seems to be a pattern of some kind...
Unfortunality, I cannot hope for a new Sengoku Patch...

I also have seen some people complain about that exact Problem on other Forums.

Hmm, have to admit that I find it a weird problem.

Did the game actually load when you selected 640x480 and Disable desktop composition? Or did it crash like the previous times? Just to confirm.

Nope, crashed like the last time.

Seems like there will be no solution for my Problem, huh...

Don't want to say that yet, hoping we're still able to fix the problem so you're able to play and enjoy the game.

Could you do a full clean re-install? I've described how to do that below, important is that you also delete the files I mention in the my documents folder.

  • Important: Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Sengoku\save games\' and copy all the save games you want to keep outside the folder
  • Uninstall Sengoku
For Steam users: uninstall the game from within steam by right clicking on the game and select "Delete content".
  • Go to the folder where you installed Sengoku in, and check if the Sengoku folder is removed. If not, delete the entire folder
For Steam users: Installation folder can be found at: '..\Steam\SteamApps\common\'
  • Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\' and remove the entire Sengoku folder
  • Reinstall the game, make sure you install the game outside the 'C:\Program Files\' or 'C:\Program Files (x86)\' folders, as it can cause issues with permissions
