Hello everyone, and welcome to my newest Video AAR/Let's Play series. I am currently in the latter part of my Let's Play of Victoria 2: Heart of Darkness, and felt that there was no time better than the present to get started on a similar series for The Old Gods. For those of you who haven't seen any of my other videos (which is probably the vast majority), I tend towards a stream-of-consciousness style of Let's Play, where I try to explain everything that's going on, and provide my thoughts and reactions as the game is played. As such, it is not a RP or history style AAR, so if you're looking for that, you'll unfortunately have to look elsewhere.

But enough about me; you're here for the violence! I have chosen the starting position of King Bagsceg of Jylland, a Norse petty King in what is now Denmark. This will not be a peaceful or passive AAR. I plan to take as much land as I can take and keep, with the eventual goal of forming the Empire of Scandinavia, and hopefully reforming the Norse faith, if possible. So jump on in and hold on tight, because longships lack guard rails.

In this inaugural episode, I take a brief look at the new technology system, burn and pillage neighbors, and Jylland adds a first county to its list of conquests!

Very nicely done indeed. This is promising to be another brilliant series.

Regarding the pronunciation of Þegn, it would be 'thane.'

Thanks! I'm showing my lack of culture with some of these names. England drops more consonants than they pronounce, and many of the names in Scandinavia use different script.

In Episode 3, Jylland continues to amass wealth and raid neighbors, and adds a nice bit of Welsh countryside to the realm.

If you pronounce anything English or Welsh majorly wrong I'll be sure to point it out.

I'll check out the latest update later.

Enjoying this and your Japan game. If only CK2 could cover the world you could raid Japan and use that as your excuse to invade Norway. ;)

Please do! I like to be kept honest.

Glad you're enjoying it! Seeing Japan would be cool in CK2, but not sure how likely it would be for the Norse to get all the way around Africa and Asia to raid them. It's an awfully long trip.

In Episode 4, Jylland continues to expand, and stomps down its main rival in Denmark!

Very nicely done. Will you be creating the Danish king title?

Leicester, by the way, would be 'Lester.' According to Google Translate, Lybæk is just pronounced 'Lübeck,' though I'll leave it to a Dane to give a definitive answer :)

If the Aztecs can make it to Europe, you can make it to Japan.

Yes, just check the newest episode! I'll adjust my pronouciation of Leicester, but good to know I was doing Lybaek correctly. I assumed it was pronounced the same as in German (and I did take a semester of Danish when I was in Denmark, but can't remember much of it).

If the Aztecs can make it to Europe, you can make it to Japan.

Good point. On that note, I didn't start with Sunset Invasion, though the rest of the DLCs are enabled. Does anyone know if I can enable Sunset Invasion after game has started? If it is possible, and if people are interested and I get a very strong realm running, and I might turn on the Aztecs to keep the challenge up.

In today's episode, Jylland claims the throne of Denmark, and puts down a rebellion in England!

Check the bottom left screen for the loading. It should show little icons to show you which DLCs are being ran with the game. I think it should auto-include if you are playing through steam.

Yeah, I got that, I just was wondering if it's possible to add DLC to a game already in progress.

In today's episode, the last of daily updates, Denmark expands further into Wales, and has to put down to another pesky uprising by ungrateful vassals.

Note: Updates will be coming every other day from here. On the days that The Old Gods doesn't get a new episode, my Let's Play of Victoria 2: Heart of Darkness will.

It should. My Holy Roman Empire game started before the Republic DLC came out and once it had and I got it republics got trade posts and special families and all that.

Excellent! We'll see how the game goes, but I might just let the pagans from across the great seas try their might against the pagans of Europe.

In today's episode, Denmark further expands its holdings in England, a potential heir suffers a suspicious accident, and the vikings loot the rich republics of the Mediterranean!

In today's episode, Denmark brings parts of Ireland into the fold, Wessex gives up the ghost, and Bagsecg deals with a vengeful ex-concubine.

In today's episode, Denmark adds a bit more of Ireland to its holdings, King Bagsecg shows the world how to be a good parent, and the vikings take another short trip to Venice.
