((May I remind you all that me and those who are given explicit permission (so far only Guilu) are allowed to start votes. As such, declaring it a coup and voting on it was both hasty and pointless. Please refrain from starting votes on your own in future for actions based in the rules [ie I'm OK with you lot running institutions like the Progressive Society on your own.]))

((Does this mean that Max's coup is not going to happen?))

I would like to remind everyone that this coup has in no way any affiliation with the Federal government, was not sanctioned by the President, and has no connection to the Radical Union of the Federation or its coalition partners. Coup: Against Also, I would like to announce that I hereby withdraw my previous bill and fully support the amended bill put forward by Comrade Than.

Aye, but he claims that all he has done has been in the name of the Federation, her government and her people. Falsehoods, surely, but that is what he claims to be representing, and whose intrests he is protecting. He seems to see himself representing your intrests and ideals, even though you do not condone his actions nor goals, and eagerily associates himself with you and your peers. Regardless of his acclaimed affiliation he has to be stopped. This administration has become memorable, for all the wrong reasons.

Oskar was taking his seat in the back benches as Herr Kanzler Kraus sat down after his remarks to the honourable Herr Obromovic across the aisle, and sighed as he sat:

Amen. No sooner do we have a terribly unjust settled peace with these revolutionaries than it appears that the Minister of War attempts to seize power first by military force and now by street brawl in both the name of that peace, and in the name of 'the People'. As if Austria hasn't suffered enough already. Either Napoleon is not nearly as cold in his grave as we thought, or Herr Marx may have spoken the truth when he claimed that history repeats as farce.

((Many thanks for the welcome, DensleyBlair and Tapscott! I hope to get up to speed on the workings of this AAR as soon as I may.))

Meanwhile In Silesia

People, again some radicals - I emphasize some since there are a hand full of good ones. Yet the bad ones, the ones who want to further their goals over the needs of the many dont know how to leave Silesia alone! We have yet another coup being started to remove the king, do you know what I say to that? Give us you best shot, the Silesian people wont take this oying down and we will resist any attempts to force us to due so until we have won!

The crowd starts cheering

Giovanni Arpaio has returned to Venice where he met his family to discuss the recent political crisis. Then he decided to return to Sardinia-Piedmont and continue to serve the Federation as Ambassador, largely ignoring the political crisis in Vienna.

I will continue my work in Sardinia-Piedmont until the end of my mandate in 1864, after that I will retire from Federal politics. I thinks that I have already met most of my objectives as politician of this Federation and I would like to help my father in the administration of the Arpaio's Enterprises in Veneto.
I thanks the gentlemen of the Congress and hope that the political crisis that has plagued our nation will quickly find a solution.

- Giovanni Arpaio

Once Giovanni was gone his brother took his place...

Name: Pier Paolo Arpaio
Date of Birth: 27th August 1822 (41)
Place of Birth: Verona, former San Marco, now Cisalpina
Culture: Italian [Cisalpine]
Position: Councillor for Cisalpina
Political affiliation: Radical Union of the Federation

Bio: One of the younger brothers of Giovanni. Pier Paolo followed the steps of his brother during the years of the patrician republic, he was a dissident but unlike Giovanni he failed to circumvent the political barriers of the old republic and couldn't participate to Federal politics.
He became known for his harsh stance against Bavaria in the Bavarian crisis of 1857, after the Civil War, when he asked for the invasion of the German country; later he joined the local Radical groups of San Marco. His strong, orthodox Liberalism quickly produced some tensions with the "proto-Socialists" among the radicals but his support for President Valenta was unquestioned.

Much more "Liberal" than his brother he thinks that economic Liberalism and Free Trade are fundamental and that the Socialists represent a great danger to the entire Federation, but is also favorable to some social reforms to appease the workers and limit the popularity of the Socialists. He is a known Jingoist, even more than his brother, and actively promote aggressive colonialism in Africa, another war against the Ottoman Empire to free the Balkans and a decisive war against Prussia over the dominance in Germany.

Pier Paolo belongs to the right wing of the Radical Union, he is a progressive and supports Federalist policies, political reforms and the abolition of monarchies but is much less enthusiast about social reforms and this new "Socialism".

policies:

Trade: Free Trade
Economy: Laissez Faire
Religion: Secularism
Citizenship: Full Citizenship
War: Jingoism

Francesco de Palma and the British Foreign Minister enjoy a nice cup of tea the day of the coup attempt; had he been aware of its existence, de Palma would be against such a coup. After the two finish their cup, they (and their fiancee and wife, respectively) leave London for small party being held by the Earl of Bradford.

((What it means is there is no vote currently. No-one should be voting until a vote is called. Only me and Guilu have the right to start official voting sessions. You lot do not. This does not preclude that there will not be voting on this issue in the future, because there almost certainly will, but it does mean that no-one should currently be voting because there is nothing upon which to vote.))

We should get back to deciding what to do with Spain, gentlemen.

-Joachim von Kirchberg,
&c.

Spain, who cares. As long as they keep their hands off our Canal from now on.
Don't be imbecilic, Councillor. Those damn Spaniards need to be taught a lesson and we might as well enlighten some colonies while we're at it.

-Joachim von Kirchberg
Councilor for Austria, &c.

Popa puts his bad leg up on the desk and lights one of his cigars

I am not going anyplace soon. I am too tired if this bickering and nonsense to be moved from my place. I oppose The Minister of War and recommend the President appoint one who is known to be competent at it. I have made a mistake, and by a trial of fire I have made up for it.

Concerning the war with Spain, I stand by my report and the lead of my friend Revanjo. We take their colonies in Africa and the Caribbean and teach them and lesson. I stand by this statement still.

I welcome the newest arrival from Austria, may your time here be fruitful and safe.

Ah, hello there Popa, I didn't see you. Now, I must tell you that the traitorous actions of so many of those on the left wing has become quite annoying. I also vouch for Mr. Popa, God judged us both that day and found us both to be worthy. He has proven his honor.

I believe we have yet to actually write up what we wish to get out of this war.. Here's a war aims act based on my colleague Kirchberg's propositions :

War Aims Act - Seizure of Luzon and Melilla
I. The Kingdom of Spain shall recognize the full sovereignty of the Khediv of Egypt over the Khedivate of Syria.
II. The city of Melilla and other territories surrounding it under Spanish control shall come into the possession and control of the Federation of the Danube.
III. The island of Luzon, northernmost of the Philippines archipel, shall come into the possession and control of the Federation of the Danube.

((I think I'll launch a new voting session now. No point in waiting even more.))
