Introduction

A wonderful good afternoon Sir, do you believe in Johore?

About the AAR:

From the first Book of Johore:
"...and the Lord commanded: 'This round shall be played in AHD, version 2.31, without any mods, at normal difficulty.'
And so it was done.
[...]
Johore shall liberate itself from the British chains, laid around Singapore, Malacca and Penang.
Furthermore, liberate the people of Malay origin to unite them under one flag - the flag of the Sultanate of Johore."

Chapter One - Genesis

In the beginning there was South East Asia. And it was good.
Then separate countries began to form. And they called themselves Johore, Atjeh, Brunei and Bali.
Then the European imperialists came and colonized country after country. Soon the lands of the Malay were divided between English and Dutch settlers.
In those days of the year 1835 the Sultan of Johore was walking in the gardens of his palace when all of a sudden a loud noise came from the clouds above. It was a deep voice that began to speak.

"Sultan! Hear my words!"

What? Who? Is this Allah?

"I have many names but they are futile. I am your lord and savior. Now listen and do it carefully!"

As you wish my lord!

"You are destined to lead your people to the holy land for they will live there in peace and prosperity"

And where is this holy land?

"Well... actually you're right here. The lands of Malaysia shall be home to your people"

How nice, that was quickly done.

"Silence! The point is, our holy land is divided and desecrated by imperialists!
You must restore the old order and unite all people of Malay descent!"

But I fear that is impossible my lord! They have strong warriors and far reaching wisdom I suppose.

"Do not question me! Learn and bring your country to great stength. For now I will grant you a little help. But remember to use it wisely!"

Thank you very much and welcome all abord this AAR! I'm delighted to see this undertaking is well received.
I think it fits this AAR have chapters of smaller scope but hopefully more frequent ones. Let's see if I can keep this up.

Ooh, a Johore AAR. Subscribed :)

Be thanked, you won't regret it ;)

Subscribed. I'm loving it already :).

Thank you Sir, that's more than I hoped!

Good luck; I have a feeling you'll need it. :)

Indeed, such a small nation needs every straw it can grasp. Thanks a lot

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with this, the gold will be helpful but I've a feeling you may need more than that to take on the British!

The gold is really a blessing for Johore. After Japan I have finally found another unciv that not immediately has to
raise all taxes and tariffs only to have an evened out balance!

Following with interest.
I thank you for your interest and hope to satisfy it :)

Chapter 2 - Be fruitful

From the first letter of the apostle Nasri to the Bruneians:

Brothers and sisters: Remember that one is only truly and rightly free
when one can live among other free people. In the same way can our culture
only be free if it brushes off the chains of western imperialism.
So I ask you to not despair but cherish and embrace the bond with your
Johorian brethren. Do not fight us but unite with us for the cause of all
Malayans outweigh the cause of Brunei.

So it came that Brunei joined the noble cause of Johore and commanded its
clergymen and scholars to share their wisdom with their Malay brothers.
The Sultan, Ali was his name, was proud of his people. And soon he
ordered his soldiers to prepare for bringing the people of Atjeh under
the protection of Johore.
But the Lord had seen into his mind and called him to reason, as it was bequeathed..

from fhe first Book of Johore, Chapter 5:

Thou shalt be content with what you have and cultivate it
for it may bring you fruit and nourish your body and mind.
Remember you can not culture and raise what is too big for you.
Its growth will be slowed and its fruit will be of lesser life force.

~~~
So I say, bring the plants of your garden in order,
for they will know their place and respect the others.
And I say further, bring your garden to wisdom,
for it may discover its true value and potential
and may strive to evolve.
And I say finally, go and liberate your spirit,
for only a free mind can leave the old paths with ease.
Nice! I kind of feel like this country would work better in PDM/Divergences, with the Malay unification and Johore already having large progress along the path of unification, but this could definitely make it more interesting! Will be watching.
Ooo this could be interesting.. will be keeping my eyes on this AAR
Please good sir, feast your eyes. It is not much we have but sharing is caring, as they say.
Well, I'm a convert. B-)
Ah, always a pleasure to guide the lost sheep to their shepard. Praise the lord!
I couldn't agree more. Its sad that creating Malaysia is not an option in vanilla AHD. Neither is PDM on my machine I fear :(
But it the end its still loads of fun :)
Chapter 3 - Tale of Woe
It now had been 8 years since the lord first had the sultan receive
his word. And many more should follow.
From the first letter of the apostle Bashriqi to the Siamese
Brothers and sisters of the Malayan community in Siam:
I see your struggle, but be without fear.
You are strong and proud a nation, your army is strong in numbers,
much more so than ours even. If there is an asian community who
is bound to resist against the european menace, it is you, my friends.
Have faith in our lord the almighty and you will fare well
against the imperium!
TDM8cO5.png
From the second letter of the apostle Bashriqi to the Siamese
Brothers and sisters: it saddens me to see that you, too, have
fallen before the imperium. Your loss of Kota Bahru and Alor Seta
is mourned by your Johorian brothers and sisters as it is an ago-
nizing reminder of the deeply regretted bereavement of Singapore
and Malacca..
Woe is us! You and us, we have failed our lord and saviour. The
Malaysian faith is but a fainting glim in Siam. So go forth and
spread the words of our lord in the lands of Siam! Save the
infidel Siamese from eternal damnation.
See what happens to those who do not believe and return to
old heathenish idols. All of Atjeh is doomed unless they stop
their scandalous slander and prey for forgiveness and follow the
way of the righteous and call to repetence.
ecN7ZLj.png
And so the world darkened around the brave Johorians on their little peninsula.
In these dark days Sultan Ali was wandering restlessly Through his gardens.
He was pondering on many a questions and not only once he found his faith
to be tested. He only found solace in that it was his Sultanate which stood out as
a rock amidst the angry and sinister sea of heathenism.
Even though their faces were sable, he admired his loyal citizens carrying on
searching for wisdom in their schools, working in the mines and patrolling the borders.
From the second Book of Johore
In these days gruesome news reached the sultan
and he turned his face against the dark grey clouds and cried:
"Why have you forsaken us!"
Very nice!
I just did an Indonesian unification as Bali in APD. Tried to annex Johore, but then Britain just took it from me. I wish ye luck.
Thank you so much ladies and gentlemen! I feel very honored and compelled to carry on with this as good as I can!
The next update should be ready by tomorrow or Saturday.
I just did an Indonesian unification as Bali in APD. Tried to annex Johore, but then Britain just took it from me. I wish ye luck.
Thank you BootOnFace, in this game Bali is on Johore's list :D
Uniting Indonesia must have been pretty rough.
It's easy enough once you can lure the Dutch into attacking you. Dig in bonuses are quite a bit higher in APD. Just finished that game in 3rd place with the Philippines under my belt. The trick is tons of dreadnoughts and State Capitalism or Planned Economy to boost your industry with your spice money. Malaysia might be able to get enough Capitalists, though, since it's small enough. I would still recommend acquiring all of Sumatra and Java, regardless of your plans otherwise. Their spectacular population is the only way you can get an army large enough to fend off the British Empire.
