Well, crap. Though are precursors shown as one civilization? Could it be that there were previously some in Lutyen's Star that just by luck had not run into us yet?

Of course. Would it have been wiser to split the Fleet? This way, I have the anti-missile Point Defense of the entire fleet trying to shoot the damn things down before they reach us.
MSG Battle Fleet @ Procyon to Fleet Ops Operations
One rpt one size-24 missile incoming range 1.9 m-km
No sign of attacker
We have launched PD missiles from ESN Sol, ESN Sirius and ESN Belligerent
Turning toward the hostile to run in and spot him

What we need are fast, cheap, disposable missile boats. No armour, no sensors, not even much in the way of engineering or fuel bunkers; just 70% engines and a monsterton of box launchers we can kamikaze the enemy with......
and this too, s*itload of them
and they don't need to be all that fast in imho , as they will operates mostly as a defensive asset in orbit nearby Earth, colony-worlds and strategical Jumps Point/Gates.
Just design them to be very cheap and fast rate producing
The good side is to look at that missile, its barely moving compared to those PD ones, the bad side is that that means it has lots of MS in other places.
MSG Battle Fleet @ Procyon to Fleet Ops Operations
Target destroyed. No casualties.
Telemetry reports that size-24 missile was stationary rpt stationary when intercepted.
Possibly an expended round from a battle previously fought at this location
Will continue advancing to scan the area for wrecks.

Or a buoy placed by someone else to let them know when our fleet approaches. We've had vessels traveling through this area before, and... that... wasn't there.
That could have been much worse, glad to see the Sirius doing its job. Is there any way to know who the missile belonged to? It may have been a Charlie buoy, for example, because we know they've been there.
Definitely not a buoy. Our sensors can tell the difference, and identified it as a missile, and Hostile, not Neutral. We'll see what's beyond it, then (if nothing scary happens) return to the Procyon => Lutyen's Star jump point to drop our sensor buoy.
EDIT: it's nice to know that our PD missiles work as designed, anyway.
MSG Battle Fleet @Procyon to Fleet Ops Operations
Have swept through the target area
Active sensors report no contacts within 28 m-km
No ships no wrecks no debris
Returning to Procyon => Lutyen's Star jump point to drop our sensor buoy
