Hrmn- I'd suggest humiliating Portugal, and perhaps taking one or two African holdings. Do they still hold on to Sao Principe? It could be a useful stepping stone - although perhaps too high in infamy to grab right now. Favorite things this update include - Absolute Communocracy, Extreme Slavery-Desiring Reactionaries(!?), and the fact that the People's Union is apparently a liberal faction. Which makes sense from an economic standpoint... Sort of? Oh, and as usual - the bizarre flour-pastiness of your ambassadors. But that's really no one's business but the Turks!

My, what a bloodthirsty lot! :) That said, I'll add my voice to the masses: why go through a bunch of tedious, clockwork-like wars with Austria and/or Russia every few years, when you have the chance to A) shut them up permanently or B) go down in a wince-inducing orgy of destruction? Either way, the outcome will be much more memorable...

Bloody good point!

Now to figure out how to do it without being double-teamed or making the war larger than I want to fight.

Thats the difficult thing. Though by the size of your standing army relative to the rest of Europe you seem to boast a powerful position. That been said I guess the mobilisation of the big boys puts you to shame. Anyway.. good luck with it.

Austria is allied to France (whom I border in Tripoli), and Russia can mobilize almost 100 divisions now. I'm not sure I can take down France + Austria. France's literacy is high, thus she probably has a significant tech advantage.

The Contest is over and i am happy to be able to present you your final Rank:

naggy - Sick Man of Europe - an Ottoman Empire AAR

Your AAR ranked number 4, congratulations!

Well, you allmost made it to the Top 3, but sadly it wasnt enough for that.
Neverthless you gave a great apperance with your impressive AAR!

When i look at your AAR purly from the gameplay perspective
its up to par with the best ones i read so far, thats for sure.
For me you made a lasting impression with your AAR :)

The Ottomans are (for me) not the most attractive country to play as,
but you truly did very well and made me enjoy it.
I also learned a thing or two while reading your AAR!

I liked how you used the attrition against the seemingly
overwhelming oppsition of the Russian and Austrian AI.
A thing i most often pay not enough attention to.

I am happy that you found my contest worthy enough to participate,
and i am also happy that you where so nice to name me Fan of the Week :)
That alone secured you a place in my personal pantheon of AAR-Heroes.

You did get one 99 score from a judge, and alot of high scores
from the most of the rest, so you where never in danger
of falling out of the Top 10.

You ranked 3 at the highest tough, it was a close battle
for the 3rd place that only one could win.

Thank you for your AAR and the good time i had reading it!
I hope i will read many more of you :)

I thank you for competing, congratulate you to your Top 10 Score, and i wish you all the best!

Wow. Thank you very much, Alexspeed! The contest was fun to write for, and you did an excellent job running it. Your award graphic is beautiful, by the way. A hearty thank you to all the judges and contestants as well. All of the AARs submitted were a fun read.

In other news, this AAR will be on hold for this week, while I work on the Ideology/Issue primer. It's in progress, but feel free to take a look!

Naggy, congratulations making 4th place in the contest! Your AAR is definately a good and enjoyable AAR to read. As a purely gameplay AAR however, with not even a tiny bit of wittyness/comedy in it it is difficult to judge it compared with narratives and history books and history book-gameplay hybrids. I may have been spoilt by all your previous AARs in EU3, which I thought at least some were better then "Sick Man of Europe". Still, you're making an excellent AAR and those ho read will learn quite a few things on how to play the game to get the most out of it gameplay wise. You ended 9th on my personal list with 44 points.

Many congratulations on the 4th place finish. I was the judge to give you a vote of 99. I have been a longtime fan of your work, both with the EU3 AARs and your current ones in V2. However I had to, of course, disregard those prior AARs and judge this one on its own merit and I thought it wonderful, as my scoring clearly shows. I have to actually disagree with Qorten's assessment of your AAR, I think it laced with wit and also very intelligent gameplay, which provides an engrossing read. For those reasons, alongside the massive bribe you sent my way, I marked as I did. Suffice to say, I look forward to the next update!

Chapter 14: Drumbeats...

This update (and the next) required a couple of reloads due to complete brain farts - in one case, I started a war of humiliation on the wrong country (whoops, I didn't mean to call you a corrupt megalomaniac, I meant the other guy...). One blown pause while walking away mid-war (hey, where's my army?), and a BSOD (I have a stick of RAM that needs replacing), so this has been rather interesting.

November 7, 1860: The Netherlands decides to have another go against Bavaria - and finds out what happens when Austria joins in and France intervenes. Due to French intervention, they escape with just a buttwhooping. On the same day, Portugal agrees to peace on the Status Quo - they don't have anything worth taking for the infamy.

November 21: Negele region is colonized.

December 18: Prussia's woes continue: Reactionaries enforce demands, returning the nation to an Absolute Monarchy. This helpfully clears their SoI. Now that we are both absolute monarchies, Prussia joins an alliance with us.

January 1, 1861: Socialist scum!

o14socialists.jpg

May 7: Yet again, Panjabi scum besiege our mission. We let it go and start putting them back in our sphere. Quite simply, we're too busy elsewhere.

August 7: This could be a problem.

o14ausfrajpg.jpg

November 5: We discover Functionalism. With 1870 approaching fast, we switch to State and Government - we need N&I and Machine Guns quick if we're to go after Austria and Russia and colonize.

May 9, 1862: Yemeni Anarcho Liberal rebels take over the government. I bet 95% of their population can't even spell Anarcho-Liberal.

May 1, 1863: To hasten Turkification, we enact Minority Building Restrictions.

May 9: USA annexes CSA.

February 11, 1864: Let bygones be bygones...unlike EU3, allying with secondary powers and civilized minors is rarely problematic.

o14portugalalliance.jpg

March 22: Angry over their inability to spell Anarcho Liberal, Yemeni Reactionaries take over.

May 13: Spain has already taken coastal Ethiopia, and now wants part of Egypt. Too bad Egypt is in my SoI and allied. We call the Netherlands into the war so their navy can blockade Spain for me.

o14spainwar.jpg

July 12: The Russians insult us, but it's not yet time to act against them.

o14russianinsult.jpg

October 19: Romanian Pan-Nationalists take power in Wallachia, and Moldavia joins. This gives me a 2 region satellite with no army, as opposed to 2 1-region satellites with no army.

o14romania.jpg

October 25: The Spanish show off their military brilliance by sticking a large army in the desert. That's me reinforcing the army next door.

November 14: Werder is colonized. My new African possessions (ex-Ethiopian Negele, colonized Negele and Werder)

o14colony.jpg

January 4, 1865: The only battle of significance in the Spanish war with us:

Mama tried:

July 7: Panjabi scum besiege our mission yet again. Grrr. Back into the sphere they go.

September 13: State and Government is researched - time for Nationalism and Imperialism. Time to eat some uncivs!

October 7: Spain agrees to white peace. It's time to prepare to knock our quarrelsome neighbors in the mouth and show them their place. Austria is first - Russia can mobilize more troops, so I want Austria taken care of first.

o14armies.jpg

February 18, 1866: We are so great, we can send idiots to wander around Africa while preparing for war.

o14nile.jpg

March 8: France declares war on Abu Dhabi to annex it. Argh.

March 20: Our armies are moved into position. We have 73/91 armies now (with 10 or so being built...

...so it's time to rock! We add a humiliate war goal to Wurttemburg to draw Austria (sphere leader) in. If Austria were smart, they'd stay out of the war, screwing me (since I can't walk to Wurttemburg), but they're not. Since I didn't declare on Austria directly, her sphere and allies aren't called.
