VIP:R 0.4 for Victoria: Revolutions Is Now Available

Here is where VIP:R 0.4 can be downloaded from. This thread also serves to offer support regarding any download, installation or technical issues which might arise whilst using the mod.

The correct installation order for this mod is :
V:R 2.01 + VIP:R 0.4 + VIP:R 0.4 Hotfix 1

The developers highly recommend that players create a separate installation of Victoria: Revolutions on their desktop before downloanding the mod. Make a duplicate copy of your Victoria: Revolutions folder from your Hard Drive onto your desktop. As Victoria does not support mod:dir functionality, the separate installation on your desktop will allow you to play base Victoria: Revolutions as certain VIP files must overwrite the base files.

This mod is designed for and was tested playing at normal difficulty/normal AI aggressiveness levels. Players who play at higher or lower levels may find game behavior to be different from the intentions of the mod.

Due to the large quantity of events and AI files, it is recommended for best performance of the mod that players play the game at moderate speeds (Normal or Above Normal) and save and reload their games every couple of years of gameplay to "refresh" the game engine. Games played at very fast speeds or for extended periods without refreshing run the risk of the engine "skipping" events.

And always remember, VIP is never "finished" - it is a continually evolving mod, and there may very well be bugs, factual errors and other problems even after the extensive testing undertaken. If you do find problems please let us know so that we can include fixes in future versions of the mod.

The developers have lots of plans for expanding the historical and ahistorical elements of the mod in the future, but it requires a great deal of time to turn ideas into game code. We currently have a massive backlog of events to include that have been submitted, and we plan to deal with that backlog over the next few months. If you do not see an event you wrote currently included in VIP, it is "in the in box" waiting to be worked it.

If you would like to see a new event currently not included in the current version of VIP:R 0.4, please post your ideas in the appropriate regional thread in the VIP subforum. And if you would like to contribute your own events to the mod, please post in the appropriate regional thread, as we are always in need of event scripters.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: VIP:R 0.4 is compatible with Victoria: Revolutions v 2.01.
Do NOT use this mod with Victoria 1.4, it will cause errors and will not work.
VIP no longer supports a mod for Victoria without the Revolutions expansion pack

Oh, also, for PC users, I'd just recommend using the Mac download (a RAR file). It's compressed better for some reason (in previous versions it was common for the .exe file to be compressed more), so will take less time to download.

EDIT: Found out why the .exe file was so large: I accidently put the .rar file inside of it as well! :eek:o I've just uploaded a version without it added, making the .exe file a LOT smaller than what it was, and therefore it should be quicker to download.

btw none of those pictures are showing up
Hmmm... so they aren't. I'll just post the links for them now - it's a bit late and I can't be bothered trying to fix them to display properly.

P.S. Glad you're drunk! ;) :p

P.P.S. There was also a Megali Idea achieved screenshot from a while back in testing, but we amended the boundaries a bit more, so it no longer applied. If anyone achieves it I'll gladly link their picture in.

I have a question about this comment.

Does refreshing mean just saving or close the whole game down and starting over from scratch?

Thanks,

Great! Just what I've been waiting for to tide me over until V2!

WWI will be included in 0.45? or 0.5? What would you say is the 'historical limit' for 0.4? 1914? Or a little earlier?

I love this mod by the way, makes victoria so much richer to play!

We hope to have WW1 in for version 0.5 - it'd be a fair amount of work and would constitute it's own version of the game. As I mentioned elsewhere, I have received a PM from someone looking to do some work on implementing WW1 into the VIP:R mod, and it will apparently be based off of the work done in the Southern Revolutions mod - which is brilliant, by the way; the first mod I ever tried on Victoria, and I still rate it today, hence the mentioning and link to it there.
So I don't have to quit the game completely and start up fresh just retire and reload?
That is correct.
What is popsplitter?
The POPSplitter tool automatically splits POP stacks for all countries (or alternatively, whatever countries you choose) so as to balance out the game a bit more. The AI doesn't split it's POP stacks, and so due to the game mechanics regarding POP efficiency, etc. it gives the human player (who usually does split their POPs) an unfair advantage, as well as reducing the total amount of goods produced to go onto the world market.

We highly recommend this tool, and would suggest saving and reloading every 5 or so years to use this tool on your latest game.

Well there is someone working on the WW1 chain for the mod at the moment (basing it off of the brilliant work done by CSABadass for his Southern Revolutions mod, IIRC), but it will likely be in another version.

Currently, with V2 being developed, we are unsure to what extent we will continue work on VIP for Victoria: Revolutions. We will get some bug fixes done in a hotfix, and when the WW1 work is done we will likely implement it, but after that we are not yet certain (it all depends on how time-consuming VIP for Victoria 2 becomes, I guess).
