Imperator Dev Diary, 2/3/2020

Welcome back for another Imperator dev diary. While we have some further additions to the religious aspect of Imperator awaiting you, I want to have something to show you, and so we’ll leave these until next week. Indeed, the site of them might interest you greatly.

Today however, I’d like to inform you that we’ll be bringing a few highly requested minor features, fixes, and changes to the table in the 1.4 update.


Deny Trade Requests

In patch 1.4, you will be able to specify which Trade Goods you wish to deny requests for, on a national level. Simply put, the AI will no longer consider these goods as valid when searching for a trade. Switching a good from permitted to denied will not cancel current exports; you will still have to do that manually.

City Graphical Culture

In patch 1.4, the graphical culture of a city will represent that of the dominant culture present in the territory. Practically, this will mean the city appearance changing when the dominant culture eventually does, creating a much more dynamic experience for those wishing to convert the culture of any given territory.

This was a tricky subject; on one hand, cities throughout history have built around the creations of former owners, resulting in wonderful hybrid architectural styles that are so common in many parts of the world. All this said, the map is designed to be a representative viewport, intended to give you an overview of information relevant to your game. As such, we’ve opted to make this change.


The Continue Button

Yes, in patch 1.4 you will be able to continue a game that has reached the end-date. There will be no new content past this point, and techs will continue to scale indefinitely. Achievements will not be available for those in ironman mode, past the intended game end-date.


AI Control (MP)

Those who enjoy multiplayer games may be pleased to know that you will now be able to decide how much control to give the AI over your nation in the event of disconnection or missing a session.

Historical Characters

One small thing that has changed in the Archimedes update is that we can now set up dead characters that existed before the start of the game. This has very little effect in the game, and in most cases there are few such characters that it would be meaningful to have, we will however be adding some important family history here and there.


You may well find some known faces among the previous rulers of your country for instance:

I think you're too hard on yourself :) Some people said it was a terrible idea to remove mana and go to political influence, and they were clearly out of their minds :p you're always gonna have someone disagree with you, but it should never stop you from making suggestions. Your input to this forum is very valuable <3

As for your suggestion, I like it. What I have thought of too is that while every province has a provincial capital, what if every region had one too? If every region had 1 provincial capital that was the centrepoint of the region, like Rome for Italia, Syrakusae for Magna Graecia, Athens for Hellas etc etc, they could be designated the regional capital, and control/diplo range could be calculated from there. It would also open up the ability for these regional capitals to have unique buildings, things that regular territories can never get.

The trade block solution sounds similar to the automated planet builder in Stellaris.

It gets rid of a whole lot of busywork but it's not precise enough to let you actually make the decisions you want to make. Which is nearly as frustrating as having to do the busywork for certain types of players.

So hopefully we will get some more fine tuning options (blocking trade by province) so that the automation doesn't force you to block trades you don't actually want blocked. Not using a qol feature should never be the most efficient way to play.

This is huge for me. My biggest problem with the game was how early it ended.

Well I think you would be more correct if you worte something like every single suggestion I have made have been terrible because thats the truth or atleast you can make an argument that there is a reason why the stuff I have written about don't exist or will exist in the game, which is unlike the two date system who both exist.

You can turn on "preserve capital surplus" and then trad is auto-denied if it would make you loose capital surplus.

Im not talking capital surplus. Im talking about stacking the province bonus. What you suggest only works at keeping your bonus to +1 and then only in the capital province.

To be fair, you can take everything from the start of human history up to 1960 and actually in absolute terms less stuff happened during that time than 1960-2020 time period which is pretty crazy and tell how exponential population, economical and technological growth is. This include every historical time period that paradox have made.

You can maybe say more population growth and technological advancements took place, but even then 1960-2020 wouldn’t be a difficult paradox game to make because there are little border changes compared to time periods Paradox focuses on. The difficulty would be making it fun.



I don't disagree with that. But MM-DD-YY is still the worst one I've come across.

MM-DD-YYYY corresponds to the English language the most out of the other options. It’s standard to say “January 18th” when talking to someone else about the date. I don’t see a reason why it shouldn’t be written the same.

The thing is you can probably use the Imperator: Rome mechanic with some modification to represent the world up to early 1800s, after that it becomes problematic due to massive changes and making it fun is also hard because modern world is very different from anything in the past due to alot of stuff.
