Well it says three things that might happen, either the demo will be sooner or later or not at all, and one thing thats for certain: they dont know which of those three options it the likeliest.

It tells me that either a demo is unlikely this week, or it is in such a hazy state (say ~50%) that they'd rather not create expectations at all.

I do not believe it means the demo will come earlier, because then they would have either said so, or not changed the post at all.

I don't expect demo sooner than Johans statement. I think the edit indicate some insecurity about the demo.

I my opinion it wouldn't matter that mutch if there is no demo, particularly if its going to be released only a few days before the thirteenth.

Oh, it would matter quite a bit for me.

I'm leaving for two weeks of travel on the 13th (heading out before it will be released on Steam, so won't even be able to able to play it briefly). A demo was my hope for getting in my EU4 fix.

I doubt the "Demos hurt sales" thing applies anywhere near as heavily for any sort of Strategy game. This is very much a "Just one more year" sort of game, in 20 years you can experience about 95% of the games mechanics, but about 0.1% of the content. For any other sort of action or adventure game, I can see this applying. You finish he demo, you finish a level, there's a natural (albeit premature) end to your gameplay. With an EU demo you end after X years usually. Most likely 6 months before you get that vital claim, or your truce ends, or 100 diplo points from QFtNW - basically halting your gameplay about as rudely and inconveniently as possible. There's nothing conclusive after ending a paradox game after 20 years and definitely no satisfaction that you've had your full of gameplay, so I'd take that particular gem of market research with a grain of salt.
