Hello everyone. We're a bit too busy working on patch 1.13 to make a proper DD today, so I just thought I'd do a little preview of new national ideas we're adding in 1.13.

Patch 1.13 is planned for release as a beta patch next week, to be made a full patch later (we don't want to release it as a full patch right now because the team is about to disappear on vacation). It should be compatible with 1.12 saves, but as always, no guarantees. It contains 200+ bug fixes (mostly older pre 1.12 bugs) and a bunch of balance tweaks. As you might have surmised, it also contains a bunch of new idea groups, so without further ado:

With these, only 33 of the 596 countries in the game now have generic ideas - and of those, several are formable tags that don't need them.

The majority of these are countries that are there at the start of the game.
There are certainly still countries that currently have group ideas that could use individual sets but for now the goal was to make as many countries start without generic ones as possible, especially in 1444.
I'm also not convinced these are countries nobody plays (especially compared to HRE minors) but then again I was always mostly a ROTW player and tastes differ. :)

I still think countries like Brabant, Flanders, Brunswick, Frankfurt, Köln, Trier deserve ideas before Nevers (is there even one start with this country in your statistics?) or Luxemburg (Isn't even available to pick in 1444 where everyone starts) or Orleans (Isn't there at start either after France starts with vassal integrated). The priority seems weird.

I know there's a "Jan Mayen" in Victoria 2 that literally has polar bears for its population. So, as you said later, a meme. Still, I have to agree with this post that it's weird that Iceland is still not in the game. Of all the formable/releasable nations that should be in that aren't, I personally would put that at priority one.

And yes, I know someone is going to say that Iceland never existed as a nation between 1444 and 1821. I would counter that it existed as a nation both before and after that period, and there's no inherent reason why it couldn't have attained independence during the period. If Germany and Italy (didn't exist as unified nations during the period), Ireland (didn't exist as a unified, independent nation during the period), Greece (didn't exist as an independent nation until immediately after the period), and Scandinavia (has never been a unified nation at all) are all formable or releasable in the game already, then there is no reason Iceland couldn't be.

And yes, before anyone points out that the "Icelandic Nationalism" mod exists, I'm aware of it, and I play with it activated. I'm saying that I believe Iceland should be in the base game without needing to use a mod.

It's a filthy (and probably Danish) lie that Iceland was never independent during the EU4 period. Jörgen Jörgensen aka Jörundur the Dog Days King ruled as king of independent Iceland for almost two months in the summer of 1809 using this awesome flag as his standard.

Flag_of_J%C3%B8rgen_J%C3%B8rgensen_%281809%29.png

That being said while I wouldn't quite put it at priority one its inclusion would be most appreciated. It now fits perfectly in with the new development system. At the game start Iceland had about 20% of the population of Norway but gradually declined during the entire period, falling behind Norway and becoming one of the poorest nations in Europe. Mirroring that Norway develops its own provinces but Iceland stays at its starting development.

I think it's an independent Iceland is no more far-fetched or ridiculous than an independent Sami during the period in any case.

Scandinavia in Europe has generic ideas.
I'd actually prefer if tags that can be formed by several nations never got specific ideas. Being able to form the cultural union in the area with different ideas makes it more interesting to try different playstyles in the same location. Scandinavia is a good example of this since Denmark, Sweden and Norway have very different ideas.

Which ones are you thinking of? Most that get new Ideas on forming them make sense( Byzantium, Persia, Inca). The only ones I don't like are the ones turning you into a monarchy (especially Italy)

Edit: Just to clarify: I actually like Italies NI. 50% BROT & 25% reduced coring cost is fantastic. I just find it odd that all major Italian Powers are republics, yet Italy is a kingdom.

Any chance that command will be made available to modders? And also the one that gives ownership of a range of provinces and also spawns a unit and ship in those provinces?

Thats great. And I was just going to comment on how much I liked the Luxembourg ones. ^^

Those look like my Luxembourg ideas from the "NI's for every nation" thread we put in the Suggestion subforum awhile back.

The Nubian ideas look like mine too; I'm guessing Wiz might have missed that. Or its been so long that I'm not remembering it right myself :)

I hope there will be some balancing in choosable ideas. Economic is OP, Innovative is a joke with +1 possible advisors (since we can retire them) and reduce inflation cost is just bad

Maybe swap out the naval tradition +1 for Naval morale % bonus? I mean, these are the greeks they should be getting some of the best NI's in the game and yet you give them naval tradition which is utterly useless.

Nubian ones have some fan stuff mixed in (both from your set and another proposed set). Will update my post to better reflect this :)
Mazovia is also in part based on a fan suggestion.
