EU4 - Development Diary - 2nd of October 2018

Good day all and welcome to today's Dev Diary for EU4. Yesterday we released the free 1.27 Poland Update, packed with free content, map changes, bugfixes and such. Today we're going to be talking about the release as well as our plans going forward.

Firstly, with the Poland Update, we have updated EU4 to be GDPR compatible. You may have noticed a Privacy Policy when you tried to launch the game for the first time after the update. As part of this, we also had to remove the old versions from Steam due to them not being GDPR compliant but fret not if you want to keep enjoying the golden oldies. This link contains everything you need to know to get your old version back.

Now the Poland Update has our players making wealth common and impaling left & right. We'll be keeping our eyes on any issues that are coming in from players. We already have a plan to release a prompt fix for any serious issued popping up including but not limited to:

  • Centenarian Venetian Doges.
  • Lithuanian infeasibility in forming PLC
  • Some users not being able to start the game due to missing dependencies
As well as any other serious issues which we see occurring for users in 1.27 Poland

But beyond Poland, what lies in store for EU4? Well, as I mentioned just after Dharma, we're now looking to put the Europa back into Europa Universalis. With extensive love poured into India, The Far East and the Near East, it's high time we brought some attention back to Mother Europe. Poland was a good start, but we'll be rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on an Immersion Pack for our next release. Where will we be focusing? Well, the Pet Shop Boys would be pleased, because we're going to Go West!

Next week @neondt will do what he does best with the upcoming map changes in 1.28.

I'm incredibly interested to see how Jake manages to completely avoid doing anything relating to colonization; seeing as RB did absolutely nothing with it, and Britain was mildly important in colonizing the new world, or so I've been told, I can see Iberia Immersion managing to eschew it for the Netherlands/Italy instead.

Iberia... good!
One of the features in this DLC could be the return of the old missions under a new name. They provided random objectives for the game and served a different purpose gameplay wise than the present missions. Other than the minor art needed, old missions don't even require anything in terms of the development of the DLC.

More stuff to be included other than the obvious Iberian content:

- Colonization
- Mahgreb region revamp
- Spanish American easy conquests (include plague cataclysmic events)
- Portuguese "Feitorias"
- Raiding mechanism redone. It's awful at present.

Seriously, there is currently no region in Eurasia that is as flat-out wrong as is Indonesia, followed (with some distance) by SEA (you know your province setup is bad when it was inspired by the current political boundaries in the region).
I have also researched South east Asia at this time based on Cambridge's textbook, which shows that:
1, North Vietnam need developments most, which needs 2 times more development to reach the average level of West Europe;
2, Bali Island need about 1 times more development to reach the average level ( if Lombak included );
3, Java need 57% more development to reach the average level;

4, other regions never should get more development, especially Malay, Maluku, Khmer-Champa, Siam, Kalimantan, Luzon and Mindanao.

Population data comes from Cambridge's Southeast Asian History, which is the estimation in 1600AD.

Java doesnt have very very high population density at EU4's timeline...... North Vietnam faced the hardest time after Later Lê Dynasty's collepse until 1800s.

Its funny, everyone has been asking for a HRE update, and we get India, poland, and now most likely Iberia.

What the hell are you talking about? Iberia DLC has been strongly demanded, more than any other region, since RB.

You beat me to it. Many players have been requesting an update from Iberia for as long as I've been on these forums.

It's the principal of supply and demand. As soon as you supply people with what they've always wanted, they will immediately demand more. :)

But I love to play as Castile so no compaints from me. Another update I'm looking forward to.

Hopefully this update to Iberia bring a little flavour to the Maghreb region aswell, at least let Tlemcen form Algiers, It's kinda dumb when the only nations that are able to form Algiers are Mzab and Tougourt, The Zyyanids dynasty are an important part in Algerian culture and history, they defended Algiers against Hafsids(Tunis) and Mirinids(Morroco) and basically created the borders of the Algerian Nation that exists today, and it has relations with Spain who's the main focus of this patch, as they conquered Marsa El-Kbir and Wahran in 1505 and 1509 and Kabyile in 1510 as they continued attacks on Algerian ports up to Jijel and Annaba, and since the Zyyanids couldn't protect Algerian ports from the spanish, those cities called on "Oruç Reis" and "Hayreddin Barbarossa"(The guy in the Mare Nostrum DLC picture) and with the help of the Ottomans they kicked the spanish out of Algeria and then The Zyyanids (Tlemcen) fell in their hands in 1554 forming the Regency of Algiers who was a Vassal/March of the Ottomans up to 1830

I don't have time to get into more details, but if there's any intrest by paradox on the history of the region or at least Algeria, I can create a thread on the suggestion forums as I would LOVE to see more flavor to that region

Great, Iberian reworking and immersion! Does that mean new colonization mechanics, or maybe new Iberian cultures (like Brazilian)? Asking for a friend.

Brazilian? Don't you think it seems far fetched geographically wise? And what about time wise? Brazil didn't exist in the game time frame and when it was born its culture was Portuguese...

Will Portugal get new provinces, like splitting Lisbon into Lisbon and Setubal?

... and we will have a single pixel to click on...
Portugal has a reasonable number of provinces already. I hope development goes in other directions.

My prediction: This will consists in adding 3 buttons to Spain in the government window: An Inquisition whatever, a Tercios whatelse and a Conquistadors morever, or some other cliche about the Spanish empire. Too bad it is an "immersion" pack and not a proper dlc. An opportunity lost for proper colonization of America, one where you don't have to see Indians becoming modern republics and conquering systematically European colonies to the ai, and later converting their European settlers to whatever American Pagan religion.

Yes, I fear this may be the case. 3 buttons with the same "+10 percent conversion rate" , "rebellion supression +20%". Just rename them something relating to Spanish history like you mentioned. The DLC's are crazy expensive and they don't really add any new mechanics.. just buffs here and there and upgrade this or that. Why is CKII getting the much much more creative DLCS?
