EU4 - Development Diary - 2nd of October 2018

Good day all and welcome to today's Dev Diary for EU4. Yesterday we released the free 1.27 Poland Update, packed with free content, map changes, bugfixes and such. Today we're going to be talking about the release as well as our plans going forward.

Firstly, with the Poland Update, we have updated EU4 to be GDPR compatible. You may have noticed a Privacy Policy when you tried to launch the game for the first time after the update. As part of this, we also had to remove the old versions from Steam due to them not being GDPR compliant but fret not if you want to keep enjoying the golden oldies. This link contains everything you need to know to get your old version back.

Now the Poland Update has our players making wealth common and impaling left & right. We'll be keeping our eyes on any issues that are coming in from players. We already have a plan to release a prompt fix for any serious issued popping up including but not limited to:

  • Centenarian Venetian Doges.
  • Lithuanian infeasibility in forming PLC
  • Some users not being able to start the game due to missing dependencies
As well as any other serious issues which we see occurring for users in 1.27 Poland

But beyond Poland, what lies in store for EU4? Well, as I mentioned just after Dharma, we're now looking to put the Europa back into Europa Universalis. With extensive love poured into India, The Far East and the Near East, it's high time we brought some attention back to Mother Europe. Poland was a good start, but we'll be rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on an Immersion Pack for our next release. Where will we be focusing? Well, the Pet Shop Boys would be pleased, because we're going to Go West!

Next week @neondt will do what he does best with the upcoming map changes in 1.28.

Finally!!! after so long. I hope they dont add more cultures in Spain, its fine as it is. Maybe add Galician, but thats it, cause all the cultures in Hispania (The romans called the territory Hispania, you will not disrespect their legacy by calling it Iberia.) in Eu4 exist to this day. Theres no need to add more.

FYI, Galician is already in the game. As is a tag for Galicia. Even got unique ideas.

Sweet Morocco and Tunis:). I played last time Portugal and it was boring. Give them nice events:).

This patch or whatsever will be about Catholics:).

Some people did not want to have Winged Hussars as special unit. ;(. Probably they will have the same argument about Tercios:(.

They're already represented by National Ideas or Age Bonus. Effectively double dipping with a unique unit is weird.

Hello.. Just my opinion.. Porto (as our second city) shouldn't be in the border with Spain, Braga/Guimarães are in the border.. not Porto. Lisbon wasn't that easy to reach and conquer... Elvas, called as the "Kingdom's Key" should fall first to open the path to Lisbon, and even that wasn't easy.. the Tejo River and some fortifications along it, made it always hard.. in the game, when we conquer Évora, "we are in Lisbon"... Peace of cake!... I think that 15 provinces are enough for Portugal.. One more time, if the DEV's found 13 provinces in Ireland (I'm not saying that's wrong) why not 15 in Portugal? When Portugal is even bigger then an "unified" Ireland?... When it comes about products in these provinces, in my opinion, it could be:
1- Braga - wool or wine
2- Vila Real - wool or wine
3- Bragança - wine
4- Porto - wine
5- Coimbra - grain or wine
6- Guarda/Castelo Branco - grain or wine
7- Aveiro - grain or fish
8- Leiria - grain; fish or naval equipments
9- Santarém - grain or wine
10- Évora - (keep) wine
11- Elvas - (local defensiveness) wine, cattle or grain
12- Lisboa - (keep) fish
13- Setúbal - salt, fish or wine (salt would be be a nice choice, from the roman times, salt was produced in this region and in Algarve too, In Setúbal District there's a city called Alcácer do Sal, founded by the romans)
14- Beja - (keep) cattle
15- Algarve - fish or salt
And of course, If AZORES are portuguese islands and are controlled by Portugal, it should be called Açores (portuguese) not Azores (English).. Açores and Madeira, nothing to change about its products. Another thing about the "seas". Pls, Gulf of Cadiz doesn't bath Alentejo (Beja) and never baths Lisbon.. that sea must be "Southern Lusitanian Sea", Gulf of Cadiz can bath the eastern coast of Algarve but... just the eastern part.
One more time, hope this post is helpfull and see it as an opinion.. (AND IT SHOULD BECOME TRUE GUYS :p )

We should be able to play as the Kingdom of Valencia, was founded by the King of Aragon, Jaume I, at 1238 after liberating it from the muslim taifas and it existed past 1700, and it had its own institutions, because of that i don't see a reason to not represent it ingame.

Also it should have its own culture separated from catalonian, the inmigrants were majorly from Aragon and Navarra, the native population still lived there at the game start (catalans would have their importance expanded after massive repoblation by them and expulsion of muslims, and that happened around 1600), and they had their own language and traditions, protected by the Fueros created by the King.

If we have Czech and Silesian, Hungarian and Slovak, Romanian and Transylvanian, Muscovite, Ryazanese and Novgorodian and finally Saigoku, Togoku and Kyushuan (nothing personal, i enjoy having that variety of cultures), i don't see why we, Valencians, can't exist as our own culture ingame.

PD: Oh, and we are recognized as a historical nationality by the Spanish Constitution.

Some of the Catalonian ideas should in fact belong to the Valencian tag ideas.

Please stop leaking our upcoming music pack.

Any hypothetical Iberian update would surely be incomplete without love for the last jewel of Al-Andalus.

We have a studio-wide policy that there is to be no more Falalan. I'm as heartbroken as you.

How can one fear what they cannot expect?

Stay tuned in!

100% agreed.

Thank you for renewing Spain, better late than never.

That yes, I hope you have also informed of Galicia, which had more demographic and economic importance than Catalonia during the whole game (and textile industry, linen, the little textile that was in Spain).

I also hope that you have been informed of what Castilla was in relation to Aragon or Portugal, I know that by game I can not be 6 times more, but you have to upload something to Castilla.

Also I hope not to see miniprovincias like Cantabria or Rosellon with more development than historical provinces with great development then, like Burgos, Leon or Valladolid.

From the Almaden mine, it is curious, because it shows that you know data that few know and meteis characters that not everyone knows, and then it is striking with screw-ups on the other hand.
Although I would not put gold in that mine.

Anyway, I want to see the changes that you make, in Castilla I do not ask for 80 provinces, one for 5,000 km2 but I do believe that there should be at least 38.

Greetings and I hope you make a renewal of 10 (and if you have to put inquisition, debt disasters or inflation, well then, but also the reality that favors) -

Btw, tomorrow, the 9 of October, is the National Day of "El Pais Valenciá". We basically celebrate the liberation of our capital, Valencia, by the King Jaume I and his Aragonese troops on 1238, and u know, as usual we will fire a lot of fireworks tonight.

Would be amazing that if the Diary Dev is out tomorrow, Valencia would be announced as playable tag and culture, But prob they are holding the next Diary till 12 of October (Dia de la Hispanidad).

How come castille having 6 times more development than Portugal? Portugal alone should have around 0.75 Castille's development and similar with aragon. Portugal and Aragon were by far the most industrious and developed provinces of Iberia. Even on castille, galicia should have way more development vs extremadura or the rest of castille or Andaluzia.

Portugal was so rich that it didn't even charged state taxes, unlike castille. And alone almost won a PU against castille and aragon together

Well, you have a point when you say Portugal was one of the richest regions of Iberia. But Aragon (the Crown) was much poorer than Castille. Their richest region was Valencia. Aragón itself (the Kingdom) was less important and Catalonia at that time had serious internal problems. However, the regions of León, Old Castille and specially Andalucia had a very strong economy and demography. By the way, I also think Portugal should have way more development than Aragon because it had a larger population and a stronger economy

After checking 1500 population, I admit that on aragon I was wrong, after seeing population on aragon they should have around 30 to 40% of castillian development. But I keep my opinion on the 75% of Portugal, if you check castille population (with no granada) vs portuguese it was more or less this ratio.

Now vs england or even france, portugal and castille region are seriously underdeveloped.
