Hello everyone. Today we’ll continue talking about subject interactions for Common Sense.


First of all. You can now always change the name and adjective of your colonial nation with a modify action on the subject screen.

Placate Local Ruler & Embargo Rivals, which we talked about last week, can of course also be done on protectorates and colonial nations.


Send Officers
This is a toggle that can be turned on/off on protectorates. When on, the overlord will pay an additional 33% of that nations land maintenance costs. However, their Liberty Desire is reduced by 10% as long as its on, and they get +20% Land Morale and +5% Discipline.


Divert Trade
This is another toggle on protectorates. While its on, you get 100% of their tradepower, but their Liberty Desire is increased by 30%.


Seize Territory
As you can’t integrate protectorates, but sometimes need some territory from them, you can now seize provinces from them. However, you need to have positive relation with them, and their liberty desire need to be below 50. The province you take have to be within coring range, and taking it will have severe impact on their desire to stay a protectorate.


Tariffs
Increase and Decrease Tariffs for Colonial Nations have been moved into this screen. Of course that is still accessible if you dont buy Common Sense.


Replace Governor
If a colonial nation is below 50% Liberty Desire, you can attempt to replace the governor up to once a year, but it will increase Liberty Desire slightly.


Start Colonial War
Now, you can always demand that your colonial nation (if at peace, and not having a truce), start a colonial war against someone they have a casus belli upon. Colonial Nations now also get casus bellis on all adjacent primitives.


Promote Investments
Trade companies have a toggle now, where you can increase the tradepower by 50%, for a small ticking increase of inflation.

Will the Panama canal thing be fixed? I was extremely surprised when I realized that colonial nations destroyed the whole decision chain. It's a ludicrous thing to kill a feature of previous dlc :D

What are you talking about? Colonial nations were introduced along with first expansion(CoP) while canals along with second one(WoN). Also as others mentioned before me you can do it for subjects.

British in 1444. But in 18th century (maybe 17th) most monarchies can get it (they have to switch gov type).
1687 is when the tech is available so about 150 years for not English people

although if this is a better choice than Absolute Monarchy is still questionable, but its still cool

Will two colonial nations in the same region with the same parent be merged together as one?

I played an England game where I PU:d Scotland and had them messing around as my "Colonial bitch" for a while before integrating them. This led to me having two colonies in some colonial regions, creating some weird borders after a time.

I think that when you inherit a country, your existing colonies should also inherit the previous country's colonies as well (if in the same region).

Will the British Monarchy be able to diplomatically change government form?
Oh what if the English Monarchy can't change its government type except by winning a vote in the parliament to change it,

So basically you need to get enough Tories in parliamentary seats to declare Absolute Monarchy

I hope they add an ability for parent nations to build buildings in colonial nations, or at the very least the trade buildings and manufacturing buildings. The ai colonies take far to long to build these.
They usually crank out a few buildings if you give a big enough gift, should happen specially next patch as buildings seem to only cost money now.

So basically you need to get enough Tories in parliamentary seats to declare Absolute Monarchy
Even the King's party were hostile to monarchic absolutism (since, y'know, it marginalized them) . That's why Charles I only summoned Parliament when he'd run out of taxes he had the right to levy and still didn't have enough money to do what he wanted.

With a few seconds of consideration, the fact you would need to go to war that many times to enforce that on all of them, that the more protectorates you have the more likely you will see westernization happening so will be annoying to dealt with and in a similar notion the more likely you will see them declaring wars and losing thus forcing you to do something about it. Probably more but it is still a nice strategy which is presumably the point of adding it.
