EU4 - Development Diary - 27th of March 2018

Good morning! It's Tuesday and probably 10am somewhere so let's have another EU4 Dev Diary. Today marks one week since the release of Rule Britannia along with the 1.25 England update. The whole team is delighted to see people playing and enjoying the content, in particular the popularity of England (Already one of the most played nations in the game) spiking sixfold.

So while we are very happy with how this release has gone this is no time to rest on our laurels. We have been hard at work digesting your various bug reports and feedback and fixing appropriately. Today I want to talk about our development plans going forward.

Firstly, we have not released any immediate hotfixes for 1.25. We put together a hotfix as soon as possible when we find massive issues, usually with stability (game crashing, consistent widespread out of syncs) which affect many people with high frequency. Thankfully we have not been receiving much report of these but there are still a number of issues which we do want to get fixed in a small patch which we are looking to have ready for you in the not too distant future.

Here is a list of some of the issues we are looking to get fixed up as a matter of urgency:

  • Rare naval mission crashes in Random New World Games
  • AI pirating Rule Britannia and having access to Naval Doctrines when the player does not
  • Duplicating modifiers when loading multiple save games
  • Various Missions fixes a-la 20,000 development U-tsang
  • Religious icons offset
  • Luck of the Irish achievement not working for all Irish tags. (This won't be able to retroactively fix your save so if you want to go for the achievement with one of the newly added Irish tags, wait for this fix)
  • Cleves being nuts about converting heretics
  • Fixing that the English mission "Strategic Control" was sometimes impossible to complete.
  • Correct claims for Great Britain in decisions/nation formations/missions
  • Neverending AI wars
This is not an exhaustive list, but it's some of the more serious issues which we are looking to sort out in an upcoming 1.25.1 hotfix. Its deployment date is chalked up to be "soon", pending successful fixing, building and testing which all, much as we try to bend the fabric of reality, takes a bit of time. It's my hope that we can have the fix out to you in time for Easter though, so we can celebrate it, as is tradition, by staying indoors and playing games.

Beyond this though, lies our road forward. We shall start working on our next update for Europa Universalis IV. While we are very happy with how our Immersion pack has done, the next planned release is slated to be an expansion and accompanying update of the magnitude of Rights of Man, Mandate of Heaven or Cradle of Civilization. Dev diaries going forward will be talking about some changes and additions in the next release which will be quite some time away. We'll start with talking about one of the bigger changes in 1.26 next week if all goes to plan, so see you then!

I really hope for a HRE and religious leagues rework - especially a dynamic league war that countries can join şn during the fighting phase as it was in reality. Dynastic reworks would be great too.

Please go more in depth on trade in the next update. Make it so we can make trade deals with other nations, focus trading in one particular resource, have benefits of exporting resources vs benefits of keeping them in your nation. Import other goods. I want to become the world's largest producer of coffee while importing iron to defend myself. It would add new depth that we haven't seen in a long time to the game during times of peace.

Well yeah. Those are soldiers sieging the city, not the rulers.

The thing is those same soldiers are supposed to be friendly and helping you out. I might actively encourage them to loot the other side not my allies as a ruler.

I also had this dumb event happening on the FIRST siege flipping back to my control from my enemy barely a few month into the war itself. Those are allied solders doing it. Not me. I have no control over my allies' drill/professional level.

Thanks for the work.

However could you increase naval, trade and colonisation powers for Brittany please? It would help in order to survive against France.

Or 3 traders and 3 diplomats from 1444 would be a plus for the gameplay considering how hard it is to keep independancy from France. Brittany should be on the same model as Portugal.

You added new breton units in this new DLC but no new update for Brittany's powers.....Why?
Brittany has historical links with the British isles....

This new dlc was a good opportunity to boost Brittany (even a bit). But nothing occured.....

I’m all for a Spanish Empire patch!

- New provinces in Iberia and some in HRE.
- Improved and buffed Catholicism.
- Fixes for colonisation, including increased early colonisation speed, easier way of conquering natives (no fabricating claims, needing a large army, etc.), rebalanced technology levels of the ROTW (aka Poland should usually be ahead of Timbuktu).
- Some mechanics for the HRE, I’ve seen good ones in the suggestion forum.
- Reworked Burgundian Inheritance and Dutch Revolt.
- Better simulation of Habsburg dominions.
EDIT: and the Italian Wars actually happening of course!

Has anyone seen the Prussian mission tree? Is it ridiculous or what? Like there is only 4 or 5 missions... ı am greatly disappointed. Although I believe I should get in line with others in dissappointment.

Naah, they are supposed to fight battles against your opponents. Outside battles they are mostly poor peasants that really just is forced to join this campaign out of legal or economic reasons and usually the loot in cities is their main payment. Armies back then wasn't that easy to keep disciplined and an easy solution for a lot of field commanders to keep their army together was simply to let them exploit the population of captured cities, friendly cities or not. Keeping the army intact and in fighting condition was usually more important during a war than caring for some silly subjects in your city.

The thing is those same soldiers are supposed to be friendly and helping you out. I might actively encourage them to loot the other side not my allies as a ruler.

I also had this dumb event happening on the FIRST siege flipping back to my control from my enemy barely a few month into the war itself. Those are allied solders doing it. Not me. I have no control over my allies' drill/professional level.
Yes they are supposed to be helping you. The same way the 4th crusade was supposed to help Byzantium...
As the army is unprofessional they still help themselves to some loot and the general is unable to stop them. After all they just spend a long time away from home besieging the city, so why shouldn't they get a reward for it?

I think a Habsburg DLC could be awesome: Iberia, Italy, Austria, Netherlands and the HRE.

About new mechanics... I don't know. Colonial Nations and colonization in general could get more complex. Catholicism could get some love. Or the HRE system.

I actually like Africa having that 60% wasteland. And I wish there was more wasteland there (and less in America), only the coast should be colonizable... this is not Victoria 2 frame time.

I want to report something about the Lowlands Region which bugged me, and multiple Belgian friends:
1. Calais is walloon. This is horribly wrong. It has long been a Flemish-speaking region with citynames still surviving like Duinkerke, the region around it had long been called Frans-Vlaanderen (French-Flanders), and there should still be people talking West-Flemish there https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Flemish#/media/File:FlemishinDunkirkdistrict.PNG
2. Brussels is given to Wallonia. This is very weird as all of the province nowadays, except for the rather recent development of the capital getting more and more french-speaking, is flemish-speaking. And Brabant was not exaclty a walloon country neither... And don't say that this had been done for balance reasons, as Flanders is now only a 3 province state (while the state with Upper Gelre is much larger), and wallonia is now a 5 province state.
What are you talking about? The Netherlands are Spanish and Catholic, and nothing else... :rolleyes:

I unironically hope we never get a HRE update. I don't need 1000 OPMs to clog up the Germany region.
A HRE update is not necessarily 300 members for the empire. We simply want(If ı understand correctly) better mechanics to unite HRE, an able ai that can form it, reworked catholic vs protestant struggle including the league war, better dynastic struggle that will also include a Habsburg dominance in dynastic warfare. And in my opinion a better great power struggle in the world. Right now it is too shallow.
