Hello everyone and welcome to another development diary about Europa Universalis. This time we have a feature for Common Sens, that is so large that it is spread over two weeks of development diaries. It is how we interact with your subject states.

In the subjects overview screen, there is now an additional button where you can open up an interaction menu with all your subjects.

Today we’ll talk about the tools you have regarding vassals, marches and lesser union partners.

Placate Local Rulers
This can be done on both vassals and marches, and lets you pay prestige (if you have positive prestige), to reduce the liberty desire of that subject by 10%.

Embargo Rivals
This is a toggle you can put on any subject. If it is on they will embargo all your rivals as quickly as their diplomats can travel. However, this increases their liberty desire by 5% while active.

Place Relative on Throne
This can only be done on vassals, and only when they have a regency. You can replace the regency with a ruler from your own dynasty.

Enforce Religion
This can only be done on vassals, unions and marches. This is possible if the subject is in your religious group, have less than 50% of Liberty Desire, and you have positive relations. Of course, this increases Liberty Desire by 50%, so its something you have to evaluate when it is desirable to do.

Scutage
This is a toggle that can be set to on or off on a vassal. When it is on, they will not be called into wars, unless declared war upon. However, they will provide 50% more of its income to you.

Subsidize Armies
This is a toggle in marches, where if on, you will send up to 10% of your manpower to them each month, to fill up their manpower pool.

Fortify March
This allows you to build or upgrade a fort in a march, where you as overlord fronts the build costs.

Enforce Culture
This is the option if you got some diplomatic power to burn. You can swap the primary culture of a lesser union partner to your culture for a power cost, but this is only doable if they are below 50% liberty desire and it will increase it by 50% as well.

Siphon Income
Unions usually do not provide money to their overlord, but history is full of rulers who took from one part of their realm to provide for another. This action lets you take 50% of a lesser union partners yearly income if you have positive relations. It will increase liberty desire by 10% but also reduce relations rather dramatically.

Support Loyalists
Unions don’t have any local ruler that needs to be placated, so instead you have a toggle where you spend 10% of their monthly income each month, while reducing liberty desire by 20% as long as its active.

Next week we’ll talk about protectorates, trade companies and colonial nations, and their unique actions.

I'm late to the bandwagon, but anyway. Yes these changes are amazing but please:

1) Let us send missionaries to vassals lands. Being able to force our religion to our vassals means nothing if they have no hope of converting their medium to high BT provinces. Without Religious only 2-3 BT provinces can be reliably converted. And I don't want to get LD for forcing religion just to have rebels flip them back when im at war and I can't babysit.

(historical example, Catholic Austria recatholicising Protestant Hungary under PU. Ingame Hungary would never be able to flip the rich provinces of Upper Hungary on its own!)

2) Consider adding an option where you can min/max how much tax and trade power you receive from your vassals. It's awfully unstrategic to have vassals in your home node or other key nodes. And the 0.34 ducats per month given to you is a joke. It hampers their budget a lot while it gives you no appreciable benefit whatsoever. I'd love an option where a vassal gives me all of its trade power but 0 tax.

(historical example Russia - Hordes. Ingame Russia must rush to Samarkand to get anything out of trade with the East. IRL Russia had the hordes in a semi vassal relationship while benefitting from their role as intermediaries of the the silk road)

[bonus 3) since we touched that area, please make a connection between Persia and both Astrakhan and Crimea. The area is grossly under-represented in its trade role and potential, specifically because of the lack of those two connections which where historically very important: Trebizond lived off of the Persia-Crimea connection, and the Persian carpets known in Europe as Polish rugs were exported through Astrakhan]

Are these free or paid features?
Well, as Johan said the expansion would be paid, and it explicitly states in the dev diary that it is for the extension, I fail to see how it would not be paid. Yes, it could had been a free extension, but repeatedly the devs have stated that features would be paid so it seems very unlikely.

Will unions remain Christian only? Seems quite a lot of the features relate to unions in this diary.

And - please please please can we have some sort of option to release vassal instead of protectorate in places like China and America after westernising?/Give us some kind of overseas client state? Maybe something that would be better would be for overlord nations to help their protectorates westernise? That would be a nice one...

It would also be nice to be able to set up a colonial nation or trade company on any land that is not connected to your own. Eg. Aztec France as a colonial nation/vassal. Or the Chinese South America company. I guess I can dream...

I'm thinking the enforce culture is something along with the lines of installing your nobles in their country, it's only for lesser union partners (not vassals) so it makes sense. When the revolution comes... well a certain incident in the praque castle at the onset of the thrity years war will tell you what happens with them.

UNfortunatelly it will work exactly opposite way: unaccepted cultures at fringes of PU union and their colonies will become culturally converted, which means peasants and burgers, not court, which stay in capital.

Are these free or paid features?

It would be nice to have them for free :), but I hope they are part of the expansion.
It's actually such a big feature that they can put the whole Development system in the patch itself and stop the unjustified (-entitled-) whining from the the previous diary.

One suggestion though; I know that you can see the digit details in the main subjects screen, but it would be less click-intensive (annoying) if you can at least see the affected areas even in a tooltip (for example: LD 32% --> 49% and etc.)
