Hi!
We’ve been a bit silent for the last couple of weeks, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been working on improving CK2. It hasn’t been properly announced yet meaning I can’t disclose any details, but we are working on a new expansion and you’ll get all the details in future dev diaries (we’ve planned one per week until Christmas).

Life, and CK2 aren’t all fun and joy, sometimes tragedy strikes and thus we’ll start off on a sad note. Magnus, who’ve been working on many of the CK2 expansions has left the team. However, before he left he wrote the following farewell to the forum:

Greetings!

My name is Magnus. And when you are reading this, I am no longer here..

It is sadly the time for me to leave Paradox, as I am moving to another city. I have been working here for over a year now, and it has been an incredible journey.

I came to Paradox and the CK2 team shortly after the release of Rajas of India, and I have been working on Charlemagne, Way of Life, Horse Lords and things to come in the future. It has been great to work on one of my favorite games; to see it grow with the help of colleagues, and most of all the community. Some of the things I have worked on during this time is Viceroyalties, the Chronicle, the Learning Scenario, targeted decisions and scriptable Governments.

It is not Tuesday yet when I am writing this, and as I mentioned at the beginning of this thread I am no longer here when this is posted. I am not gone from the forums however, and I will still keep a look at what's going on. This thread most of all.

I am still bound by an NDA so I can not tell you exactly what we are doing right now, but I guarantee that it is something REALLY exciting that I am really looking forward to play. I know that a lot of you have been wanting this as well (this is where 10 new "Are they doing China?" threads will quote me). Progress is looking great and I am sure that the team will do a great job finishing it up. The number of people working on CK2 now is larger than it has ever been during the time that I have worked here, so there is no need to worry about what can be achieved.

If you are looking for me, I have moved to the court of Prince Erik in Uppsala (at least when you get the next patch), with the dynasty name Sålder. Do join me and fight to secure Scandinavia from the heathen Catholics. And if you allow me to rule my ancestral homeland of Järnbäraland I will be your most loyal vassal.

Thank you for this time everyone! And best wishes to you fans and the team.

Cheers!

Oooooooo. New Dev Diary......

I have not been here as long as some, and I know I do not know a fraction of you as well as they deserve. I suspect that you are one of those people I wish I'd know better. Goodbye, Good luck, and Thank you.

Thank You.

Thank You.

Thank You for CK2 Magnus. I can not say it Enough. It is a wonderful game, and your efforts are very much appreciated, by me at least. I am sure you will be sorely missed.

Since everyone here is being supportive and positive I have respectfully disagreed with the main post just for cosmic balance purposes. It is nothing personal.

CK2 is my favorite strategy game of all times and I'm sure that the best of it is yet to come. So... you won't be missed by me Magnus because I'll continue to enjoy the work you've done. So... you ain't leaving CK2 as far as I'm concerned until the game is destroyed with the entire human race in a massive meteorite because Johan didn't get the chance to send a spacecraft with his brain and a copy of every PDX title. YOU ONLY HAD ONE JOB JOHAN !! (besides the many others) but still, NO EXCUSES.

So.. yeah...
Shouldn't that be a comet, not a meteorite? :p

Good luck in Uppsala Magnus. I may have not known you long, but I do appreciate your contributions to Paradox, to CK2, and to my enjoyment. Thank you and have a nice life, wherever it may take you.

Release in Christmas? I hope that's enough time to fix all the bugs and problems...
You are the god of Necro.

EDIT: Sorry, I though that this was the first dev diary of CK2 :eek:

Good luck on the new job Magnus, and thanks for helping make CK2 one of the greatest grand strategy games ever played.

Magnus,

Good luck in your future endeavors. Your past work on Charlemagne, Horse Lords and Viceroyalties is much appreciated.

@The rest of the CK2 Team:

It is great hearing that DD's are making a comeback soon. I also am looking forward to the CK2 journey and seeing where you take us.

Thanks in advance for your dedication and work on upcoming material. I'll start checking the forum regularly again soon. I'm looking forward to the weekly DD's.

Best wishes and good luck, Magnus! In thy honour I'll name my next CK2 custom character and found a city on thy name. :D

Now, rest of the article is a real speculation-bait and I wonder if we are getting China or we are actually not getting China but something closer? Another map expansion or something about deeping existing game? Food for thought.

I'll keep waiting for actual announcement.

I think it's playable theocracies. ;)

Ooh, I hope so! Just imagine, playing as the pope and sending out missionaries to spread catholicism, only to excommunicate them later! =)

I see Groogy's faction "Prickles for Crusader Kings 2" Enforced it's demands. Right then....

*SaphireSeas has created a new faction: Emperor Penguins for CK2!*

This makes me want to play a game in his honor where I attempt a Norse resurgence with Erik the Heathen and land Magnus' character to serve as my right hand man. They'd better have given him good traits!

Thank you and good luck Magnus!

Wishing you all the best with your future endeavors Magnus.
You will be missed. We will soldier on and continue to fight the good fight in your name.
