And we're back from our summer vacation! Only to skip the word next week because I will be in Cologne for Gamescom with Karoliina, our game designer. It's going to be epic and there will be an announcement made on Thursday the 18th. I honestly can't wait! Therefore this week the team and I are working hard to have everything ready for the event, basically continuing from what we left off with before the vacation.

The vacation was great and we actually managed to have nice and warm weather here in Finland for a change. Having four weeks off gave us plenty of time to relax and gather energy for the rest of the year. The best thing with long vacation is that you really start to look forward to getting back to work so it's great for motivation. I do believe there needs to be a balance with work and freetime, you know, to get the best out of your employees. Happy dev is a productive dev!

We ate a cake on Monday, cause that is kind of what we do here :D

How was your summer vacation? (Given that you live on the Northern Hemisphere and in a country that has annual holidays, like Finland does.) I closed all notifications on my phone, tried not to read any emails and went to a couple of festivals. The highlight of the summer for me was definitely seeing Helloween play at the John Smith Rock Festival in Central Finland. Otherwise I pretty much spent my vacation doing nothing as our horses also enjoyed a couple of weeks off training and competitions.

Tilda and Alpo just horsing around.

All in all the team and I are very excited to be back at the office and continue to work on Cities: Skylines! Stay tuned for more updates this autumn and if any of you are at Gamescom next week, be sure to visit the Paradox booth!

Cheers,
Mariina

Welcome back!

I ask on behalf of a lot of Linux users...is there any possibility of upgrading the Unity used in Cities:Skylines to Unity 5.4? It has a lot of fixes that may dramatically improve performance for those of us on Linux (and possibly on Windows too). The new awesome updates have definitely added wonderful gameplay for me, but now my computer can't play it without getting CPU temps up to 70-72 degrees!

Please please pretty please ask for Unity 5.4!

Where is the Paradox' booth at gamescom? I can't find them on the exhibitors list...
Any chance to see you girls there today? We have "wildcard" tickets which allow us to go today in the afternoon when normally only the press is allowed

Of course the biggest disaster will be all the f**ked up games as a result of incompatible mods- expect a week or so of chaos! On first impressions I'm not feeling this new DLC- I play to CREATE not destroy, there are plenty other games that scratch that itch. Please at least let there be no zombies or aliens, that would push me over the edge. The radio stations? Hope it's not an extension of that flippin' bird CO continue to force upon us

Is the cake a hint? 112 is the number for emergency services (in Europe) You really need them if there is a disaster. Disasters would be classic!

You were right, unfortunately.

I think it will ad some great things to the game. More things to do and take care off. I was hoping for seasons but I guess I have to wait.

We think disasters will indeed ad some interesting elements to the game. And for us the focus with disasters is not only to bring destruction to your city, but to prepare for them and have counter measures. And did you hear the helicopters in the trailer ;)

I am afraid the seasons will not happen for Cities: Skylines, because the game was not originally planned to have them and implementing it afterwards is quite tricky business :(

like ...mountain summer theme?

Volcano, storms, hot weather (if not summer), landslide (snowslide for snowvfall users)...
aw :D

Each time, 3 maps were... ^^
We already have flood disaster! :) (however, we may get improved one with that wind simulation)

And for us the focus with disasters is not only to bring destruction to your city, but to prepare for them and have counter measures.
I think the same. That's why my FR title here "Get ready for emergency state and Orsan plan (Emergency management) into yr city" that introduces natural disasters dlc : )
