Midsummer is here! The time when the sun doesn't set and Finnish cities get deserted by people going on holidays and moving to their summer cottages. This is however not the case with me since I actually don't have a cottage. I will be spending the midsummer weekend at home and hosting a party for all the other sad people who don't have a cottage to go to (there's like 6 of us). After the midsummer it's still back to work for a couple of weeks before the team at Colossal will be taking some time off and enjoying the summer, which in Finland is always short and usually doesn't have much snow.

We have gotten very positive feedback for the Matchday DLC so thank you for that! The one gripe is with the occurance of the matches, which is based on the day and night cycle and not the calendar time. This is a tricky thing and we really have to think hard how to handle the progress of time in the future. The simulation and visuals are currently running in two different time scales so that the progression of the cities and the length of the citizens' life wouldn't take too long, but with the addition of the day and night cycle and other happenings in the city it makes sense to slow down the time on the visual side. Overall I think the DLC is a nice addition to the game, or is it just cool because it was free? If we were to consider working on something similar than the football stadium with matches would that be interesting for you guys? Maybe this is my time to bring some horses to the game BIG TIME, like an equestrian centre or racing tracks! (Just kidding, the team STILL doesn't share my passion for horses, for some weird reason...)

And if you haven't gotten your football stadium yet, you can download it for free on Steam. Until next week!

Cheers,
Mariina

Hello Marina,

My english isn't very good but i habe a lot of ideas. I'm happy to see your discuss for "the time" and calendar in the game.

I think people are too passive in the city, no rebellion in a city that is not doing well. I think than in the future add visual effect for that. (crime, pursuit, gaz explosion, lightning fire, powerplant problem).

A district may fall in power failure without reason and send a technician to repair.

- tennis tournaments
- DTM racing Events
- tour the france bicycle event throughout the city with lot's of bicycles, maybe boosting overall health for limited period of time, or other effects like a short massive tourism boost
- or a marathon in the city

Of course it is an awsome DLC, and not only because it was free.

The same mechanics could be used for other sports events, like Mca101 mentioned above, but also for other cultural events, like concerts, festivals... or the inauguration of some buildings.

I know many people don't want to use mods, but you realize that with Rush Hour you can have automatic events and set events up in your city? Plus lovely crazy traffic jams at the events and in peak times!

I think that DLC it's a great addition to the game, and a good road to walk.
In my opinion, CO should do the same with the special buildings we already have too. It should have events in the other stadium, the theater and so on.
Micromanagement is what Cities:Skylines needs.

So, 3 DLC (one free, yay!) and some free ingame upgates (yay!), all eye-candy.

Can we have a simulation fix and improvement one day or this will remain a city painter?

Hi
I would love an answer to this question too... still wondering if i should have expectation about this game or not.
So is there improvment about simuation coming or definitly not ? :(

I think they are trying their best. They won't probably change anything super drastically anymore but that doesn't mean they don't want to improve the game. With Snowfall I think I saw what they were trying with the whole heating and plowers thing. What killed it for me is that the only reason to build a road maintenance building is to get rid of the icons floating above the road. Gameplay-wise it doesn't really make a difference even if nobody plowed the roads. The whole DLC really suffered greatly by dumb design choices.

PS. I would like to know your top wishlist for this game. Maybe CO doesn't know exactly what you and us all want? Yes, I know: lane AI, deathwaves, hearses, ambulances, static crime, bland economy... but what else :D

Sadly i have alrdy written about this. Even if it's a very nice painter. It remains a painter. Industry and commerce don't work at all and you can play without. It has nothing to do with a simulation for now. Sim City 4 was a great simulation. With some treshold to pass with little difficulty before becoming a megalopole.
But here... it's nice and i trully love the design (that's why i keep checking updates and forums) but it's so empty ... really empty...
No real management needed. No simulation. No real tourism. No real commerce or industry. And traffic is joke...
I keep waiting for something about this game. Something that never comes. And so... i can't tell it's a good game for now. And i didn't recommend it to my friends bevause i know they will not enjoy such easy painter. (I know also many people prefer very easy games... without depth).

I want an Abusement Park! Paid DLC because it's chock-full of features.

1. For a more leisurely building experience, it would piggyback on the neighborhoods game feature. So stuff would grow naturally inside the amusement park, instead of painstakingly hand-placing every single attraction.

2. No cars circulate in the streets of the amusement park. Only people and special service cars for the amusement park. The road system would be fenced in that amusement park vehicles don't leave it, and normal vehicles can't enter.

3. Residential grows not residences, but places for people to rest, eat and be together, such as food plazas and plain plazas.

4. Commercial grows stores, arcades, or parking spaces (see below)

5. Industry grows amusement park rides of many kinds.

6. Roads are skinned: Only one type of road connected to a 'park entrance' ploppable allows cars in. All commercial in this road only grows parking lots. Avenues become go-kart tracks. Elevated roads become rollercoasters. Dirt tracks become the normal people walkways. There should be special road ploppables for rollercoaster loops.

7. No cars circulate on any of the player-built tracks unless a 'go-kart ride' ploppable is placed or 'rollercoaster ride' ploppable is placed.

8. The attractions would gradually be unlocked and have large-scale attractions sucha a giang ferris wheel ploppable, or a 'magical carousel' different from the plain small-scale carousels which spontaneously sprout. There should be a scary house super-attraction too. And others.

It

I partly agree and partly disagree. Really agree with the management part. You can just plop down a couple of police stations and never worry about it again.
But there is simulation. This game simulates a lot of things quite deeply. The problem is that other parts aren't simulated that well. Like crime and demand for zones.

The latest patch made tourism feel right for me at least. Now I can really see tourists flowing out of my airport and taking a shuttle to the city. Commerce and industry I have to agree again. the demands for those are all over the place.

I understand your point of view but there's too few parts that are simulated deeply... maybe electricity water and heat... transport ? i don't feel so.
For tourism i don't know. I can't give a real try as long as commerce and industry demand are not fixed and working well (traffic also).
I insist on 1 point : for some reason, i trully love this game, else i wouldn't be writing my feelings on it here :) I just expect much more from it (also i'm a huge paradox fan and i lack the paradox deep touch in cities skylines... CO...)

First, I loved the DLC. And not because it was free. I enjoyed trying to find a place in the city to place it. And then, trying to figure out metro, bus, and highway routes to ensure fans could visit. My one critique is that you already have a stadium in the unique buildings tab. If you hover over it, you can see that it is also a soccer field (but much smaller). It almost makes that stadium seem obsolete. Perhaps you guys can figure a way to give the stadium a purpose; maybe a city league, or a different sport like hockey?

Second, I love the idea of events that attract cims to a certain location. Special events would be a great addition to the game. You could take advantage of the many buildings you already have in the game, for example:

1. Expo Center: comic book events (attracts more kids than adults), conventions (after you build an airport), business meetings, concerts, game expos (after you build the Colossal Order building), etc.
2. Research Center: discoveries, attracting high tech companies next to it, random diseases, power outages from high tech experiments.
3. Marina: boat races, water sports in the water.
4. Ranch: horse racing, equestrian shows.

Overall, I would like to see more synergy between the many great features you have in the game.

OH, and if you could have a map with actual dynamic weather, that would be awesome. A map where it snows in the winter and there is no snow in the summer. Also, could you add a city hall and a prosecutor's office. I am shocked that so many cims go to jail without a fair trial!

(BTW, I convinced 2 friends to buy the game!)
