CK3 Dev Diary #82 - Court Type Content

Howdy, y'all!

Once again shadow posting for our wonderful Dev, CC! Who could this mysterious figure be who I am ghostwriting for? We may never know the answer to that. However, we do know that the info from today will be quite interesting for those of you following along with Royal Court updates and information!

Without further ado, may I present:

Court Type Events:
Hello and welcome to another Dev Diary. We talked about the Court Types system last week, and continuing on that, this week we’ll showcase the different types of content you might experience depending on your chosen court type!

If your court is known as a place of learning, then you can expect events concerning scholarly matters to be more common. If it’s a place famed for its administrative nature, then events related to that will be more frequent.

These “court event weighings” don’t eliminate events from the pool, they just alter their “weights.” It’s not just petition events that are affected either, but the court events too.

And if you think that the events are limited to the court room alone, nay nay. We’ve added court type weighted events outside of court as well. Nothing is sacred, nowhere is safe.

Likewise, some new content is based off of your grandeur level and even your amenities. For instance, if your lodgings are low enough that you’re struggling to house everyone, that does give a _rather_ convenient excuse to evict guests and other scroungers from a cramped castle.

On the inverse side of things, having so many rooms that you don’t know what to do with them gives a bit of uhhh… space for experimentation.

Redecorating in the style of a glamorous court is a bit on the nose, but not a bad way to crank up your own court’s grandeur.

Of course, for the _rustic_ look, you could redecorate after a less-than-fashionable court...

And, to round off, rulers whose courts lack grandeur that are willing to hold their nose a little can even burn some of their remaining dignity in exchange for skilled staff, rounding out their courts with experience even without pedigree.

Hey folks, thanks for the DD!

Will the "Exoticize Grand Hall" decision actually lead to any visual court changes?
I would really love it if that were to be the case, but as the DD doesn't hint towards that, I was wondering about it!

Cheers!

Would that mean that people at your court could start dressing up as another culture for a time? That would be unexpected but nice rp wise.

Looks good. But I urge you - make more events. However many events you've made, make more. They are the lifeblood of the game.

Just for reference, Old World has over 3,000 narrative events. I know it's much easier to do events for a turn-based game, but at least consider how you can make multiple variants of similar events (like the children education events). That will increase the count and therefore the variety you get in each game.

Looks pretty interesting, looking forward to it also to those events that are not mentioned here!

Very good. Thanks for this week development diary.

Weighting events with court style is a very bad idea imho. It's already extremely boring with lifestyle (where weighted mean 95% of the events will be your life style) and it makes no sense. With lifestyle you can change them regularly with royal court we will be stuck with a single court type for a whole playthrough.

Events should be about what you are, but also about what you are not. It's not because I choosed to be focused in martial that my realm won't have to deal with diplomacy or economy.

Also, pleased to know that only the western style court is awful a'd underwhelming, this one is nice.

From what I can see on the device I’m using, it looks like there are more textures on the walls & floors. This relieves one concern from last week’s diary, answering the question as to whether or not the images shown were considered the final, finished product or WIPs. Happy to see the graphics are steadily improving! :D

Given that we have only seen events that are more common for three types here (Administrative, Diplomatic, and Scholarly), and I think I'm correct in saying that there are five court types, are the other two just not as interesting or not complete yet?

(Honestly, I'd thought there were 14 court types, two for each Ethos but the Q&A says otherwise. It will be interesting which Ethoses unlock the same court types since there is a maximum of 10 combinations of two court types.)

Looks good, but I agree that this will need A LOT of events or it could get stale fairly fast.

"You are wrong; here's why"

omg, are courts actually a pre-modern internet?
Always have been.

Well, yes, unless the combinations are ordered somehow (which would make it 20), there are ten options. More than enough for seven Ethoses.
