CK2 Dev Diary #112 - Wonderful News

Good afternoon

It has been a while since we wrote one of these and I am sure you are all dying to know what we have been working on, because of course, we have been working away on the next exciting thing. Our next update will be free and will focus on a brand new feature: Wonders.

Cathedrals, Fortresses, Pyramids and many many more wonders are planned for the next update. By investing a significant amount of gold and time you will be able to build a wondrous building. These will be built in stages meaning that even if you cannot finish it in your lifetime, your descendants will be able to finish what you started.

Wonders and their stages

Now even though many Cathedrals or Great Libraries may be built, we want to ensure they are not all the same, so it will be possible to add upgrades to your wonders, everything from spikes to gargoyles, to gardens, each of these giving unique modifiers and sometimes unlocks new content.

Upgrade Icons

We will also be adding some prebuilt historical wonders to the game, to represent already existing buildings, such as the Pyramids of Giza and the Colosseum of Rome. (Maybe you can even add an upgrade or two)

If you have fun ideas for any of this please let us know. I can’t promise it will get in, but it just might.

We hope you’re as excited about this as we are and please remember that all the art is work in progress.

Putting some features of a family mansion/palace into that fortress wonder would be nice

Though you also have to worry about even more stat inflation. Adding a library to your castle would just boost your learning more which was just nerfed. But I'm fine with many things being merely vanity projects and giving you prestige

I ‘d suggest that Irminsul should become a wonder, as well as the Theodosian Walls.(Though I know they 're already inthe game in another way so the suggestion won't be adapted. ) By the way, every time I heard "wonder", it would remind me of Herostratus...

If we build some kind of Castle Wonder, can we put it "Secret Hallways" upgrades? Would be fun to escape assassins this way or, if the castle is taken over by invaders, for you to quickly advance a siege if you attack before the occupier finds out that your ancestors built large-ass secret tunnels.

Will wonders give bonuses when partially built for example often times Cathedrals were used while they were in construction, also do they take a holding slot?

Could you upgrade the castle in your capital so that it becomes a wonder over generations? I think it'll be pretty cool to have an ancestral home established that becomes not only personal with your upgrades, but wonderous for the realm.

Hmm, perhaps something commemorative for smashing those invading hordes, like the Victory tower (Kirti Stambha), for an Hindu that managed to defeat the Muslim invaders, or something like the Esztergom fortress for an Hungarial ruler victorious over the Mongols.

Perhaps adding some mystic/'magic' for some regions, like a Eden-like garden in Armenia/Assyria, Shangri-La on the Tibet, or something more obscure...like the Leng plateau (on the Tibet, too :v)

Will there be a good number of Roman wonders? I like the idea of slowing rebuilding the Rome of antiquity after restoring the empire.

Or perhaps we could implement this as a Roman forum wonder, and then have additional buildings as add-ons to it.

Can we restore the Gemonian stairs and use them?

Well, the Taj Mahal was built a bit later than the times of CKII, but I don't see why something similar could not have been build during late CK II times.

Restoring the Roman aqueducts for prosperity/disease resistance boosts could be fun.

Nice feature idea, looking forward to see how it ends up and hear more about the update!

Fun Idea: When the Aztecs invade, it's often mentioned in events that they build great pyramid temples where they sacrifice thousands to commemorate their victory over the nation they have defeated. Could be quite cool to see these temples if it's not too trivial to add.

This is what I want to see. If the Egyptians get pyramids, then I would like to see the Aztecs build pyramids too.
