Arms Against Tyranny | Pre-order

Esteemed Generals!

As the warmth of summer fades and the brisk embrace of winter draws near, we are thrilled to unveil the pre-order for the upcoming expansion, "Arms Against Tyranny." Mark your calendars for its grand release on the 10th of October.

To add an extra touch of coziness to the impending chill, by securing your pre-order, you will unlock exclusive access to the captivating bonus track, "Säkkijärven Polka". Oh, and did we mention? Sweden's getting a communist focus tree. Because who doesn't love a cozy ideological makeover?

This does not feel like the strongest DLC and I fear it's execution is gonna be questionable. Should it somehow work exactly as expected it could be pretty good tho.
I'm not interested in the Scandinavian countries and Finland. I don't play them and won't play them after the DLC. But Paradox did a tricky thing - they hid the Special Forces change behind the DLC. What is really interesting to me, and apparently interesting to many.

Speaking of pre-order songs, is there any way to get the excellent Bella Ciao if you missed the pre-order for BBA?

Personally, I view these DLCs as paid updates anyway. This business model wouldn’t work any other way.

I was hoping for no exclusive song this time. I can understand why pre-order bonuses exist, but still. I do hope these songs are made available for purchase at a later date for the people who missed the pre-order. They are just background music, but can add much to the game's atmosphere, especially frustrating if you would have been willing to pre-order but weren't a HoI4 player at that time yet.

That said, I really like the trailer. More grim than the previous DLCs, but I think it fits quite well.

Honestly, I thought the paradox rendition of bella ciao was pretty mid. Paradox's katyusha though is really good.

Edit: also the preorder bonuses as a concept do kinda suck, I'd rather it just be rolled into the dlc proper. But at least we can always preorder 1 day before release to put pressure to an extent.

I don't think you can. It's a really scummy practice by Paradox to lock great tracks behind pre-orders. What if I would've discovered HOI4 in 5 years from now? I can't access locked songs at all? How desperate can you be for pre-orders? I don't think they can justify doing it, considering how many disastrous DLC launches PDX games had over the last few years.

I am pretty sure you are in the minority. But in general I look at it this way: I want Paradox to keep making updates, one day I want to have a DLC for the Middle East and maybe even a fleshed out Nepal and Siam. So if I and many others keep buying the DLC they keep updating the game. Which is also good for mods, since the weapons market will make life easier for many mods that tried to implement that feature in other ways.

Pre-ordered.

I'm still hoping for some Continuation War and Interim Peace content. From what we've seen so far the emphasis with the Finnish content is overwhelmingly on the Winter War, with nothing involving the historical dilemmas of the Interim Peace and little involving the Continuation War. Historically the Winter War was only 7% of the time Finland spent at war in WW2, and accounted for 24.2% of her military casualties in WW2, while the figures for the Continuation War are 78% and 74.4% respectively, with total casualties not differing much due to the low amount of civilian casualties.

Yeah. It’s not like these people can’t be loyal supporters, they just didn’t know the game.

It’s weird that HoI4 still has preorder bonuses. CK3 got rid of them, and made all of them free eventually, and Victoria 3 was going down this route with the Voice of the People expansion, but decided to cancel the preorder bonus and just make the exclusive agitators available to all after community backlash.

I am interested how will devs change Soviet Union. Finland is now stronger and they also have to prepare for continuation war. Since no air Russia is dead (because air is OP) i am afraid that Soviets would have it much harder.

But it's no different to any other DLC (except for BftB). Speaking of myself, I'm not interested in focus trees at all, but I've bought the DLCs to get access to mechanics that come along, which fortunately are all the same for everyone (bar Senate, BoP etc.)

Pre-ordered. I'm sure the song will find its way through a mod, but let me support the team because I simply love the game.
TBH the main attraction for me is the new designers system, though I still didn't really catch the details: I'm sure it will change my gameplay.
