In vanilla, probably not. It'll be much worse. The capitalists are terrible at managing things on their own. You could try a state capitalism party, but then you won't have a good citizen policy, which is a problem in itself. Just subsidise factories, it's the best possible choice.

I'm using AHD and my USA will never go commie.

You get some events that help a lot don't know if you got them yet or not. Around 1860 (not sure of exact date) you can use the decision the homestead act. The other one is entirely dependent on the French they have a decision to ship the statue of liberty when this happens you get a nice immigrant attraction bonus. It becomes available when the french research cheap steel.

Pass all the reforms you can this will attract more immigrants. When you can pass the bigger reforms I always do the school systems first then the healthcare. For the eduction and population growth bonus.

Like moldeh said subsidize your factories. Research the right techs to make them more profitable. Not sure if this is normal or a random but in my current game as the USA I have a real shortage of steel and that is affecting most of my factories that are losing money. I'd try to encourage steel factories in a few states before this happens.

When I said vanilla, I meant AHD without mods (specifically PDM, since it makes LF economies viable by improving the economy, among other things). In any case, if there's a full cit. party with state capitalism available to the US, that's the best party you could ever get. Commies are all but guaranteed to have planned economy, which absolutely destroys your efficiency. You also can't turn all the way to the right, because residency is also a massive problem. So, there you go, your choices are laid out for you.

The USA's one Socialist party is State Cap / Full Cit.

I'm playing the USA.

State control isn't an option.

Then live with the problems that come with your choice. As the Chinese say... Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Now that I think about it, this proverb is completely irrelevant in this situation, but that was the best I could do. It was either that or 'with great power comes great responsibility'.

Seriously, though, please don't start another thread like the one that just got closed - talk about things that have to do with the game, not about what you think the usa is or stands for.

USA doesn't go big government if my game.

It's just unamerican.

Go L-F. AI is terrible at managing factories, true, but if there is enough money, they will constantly build new factories and expand existent. At LF, factories will fire down workers until they're profitable and hire again when there's demand.

In the meantime, add some populous countries to your sphere to force foreigners to buy your goods, get techs that help efficiency (especially input and output bonuses), or alternatively, invade some industrious countries and occupy their territory to close their factories. These thing are definitely American :)

Also, don't worry too much about South American countries getting all the immigrants - those countries are or should be in your SOI, which translates to them buying your goods without you having to worry about their needs. The more there is, the merrier, and when your industry start growing again due to them buying your goods, your unemployment will fall and you will get immigrants by the tonne again.

Shouldn't the homestead act and statue of liberty decisions/events take care of immigration issues for the USA?
