Started the 1897: Imperial Zenith scenario, and I'm wondering....

After three year, the Qing Empire has turned black because of rebels popping up all over the country. I am aware that the Empire historically were very unstable and under a huge pressure from the imperial nations in the area, but is this logical? When the 20. century starts, the Boxer revolt launch, and all the imperial nations have a DOW, meaning the end of Qing. After 1 1/2 year, China is split between France, Russia and Japan(me). Ofc, alternative history is cool, but it's seem to be way to unrealistic. Maybe you could take a look at it?

Yes, this is one issue that needs an overhaul. Sorry, I hadn't that time to play this mod, so you are my beta-testers. So feel free to make suggestions like this one.

There is no music, is it disabled?

Since I've mixed up some codecs I get no music when playing DH or HoI2 at all :) . So I'm not able to fix it, but I will ask someone to do it.

The game saves all the autosaves expect from just saving oldautosave and autosave. Can it be fixed?

Open misc.txt in mod folder and change '1' to '0':

# Use new auto-save file format: AutoSave_Country_Year_Month_Day.eug. 1 - Enabled, 0 – Disabled.

Very nice conversion and expansion of the 1914 mod, particularly all the additional events.

However, I've run the 1914 scenario several times now, and it seems to me something ought to be done to make the AI select historical options more often. 4 out of 5 times Germany won't back Austria-Hungary, meaning no war. Quite often Italy and the Ottoman Empire won't join, and in my first playthrough, the US joined the war in 1915 when Germany refused to end submarine warfare after Luisitania.

Also, after Germany had its surrender events (this in 1915), it was still at war with Belgium, and promptly reconquered the country.

That's strange?! Can anybody confirm this? Look at the ai chances:

- that Germany would back AH

IMO these behaviours of Italy and USA is historical.

Also, after Germany had its surrender events (this in 1915), it was still at war with Belgium, and promptly reconquered the country.

Noted!

Playing from the 1897 Imperial Zenith Scenario as Germany. It's January 23, 1914. Whatever event triggers at midnight right when the clock goes to click over to the 24th causes a crash. Happened to me 8 times now. I'm going to try and play as another country, then switch back to see if that will do anything to rectify the issue.

Edit:

Tried switching over to Austria-Hungary, and it still crashed. Tried Britain, Italy, and the United States, too. No change. I doubt it will be any different regardless of what country I select. What's going on? I haven't changed anything with the game's files, nor am I playing with cheats.

Re-Edit:

Still no luck figuring out what's causing the January 24th crash.

I've been having some weird stuff happen in my game, too. Switzerland AND Denmark declared war on me in May 1898 after I began building up light infantry units for service in Africa. I annexed Switzerland, after which Luxembourg promptly declared war on me. Annexed them, too. Started to invade Denmark, they offered me a peace settlement that gave me everything except Greenland, Copenhagen, and Iceland. Then PORTUGAL declared war on me, and I got a peace settlement from them that gave me pretty much all their territory in Africa. The Boxer Rebellion never happened, hence the Peking Expedition event never triggered. The Russo-Japanese War didn't happen, until, that is, Japan joined the Central Powers and went to war against the Entente following my decision to declare war on France with the Moroccan Crisis event. The Ottoman Empire is a part of the Central Powers, ATM, and when they went to war with Italy over Libya, I got dragged into it along with Austria-Hungary and Japan (did I mention that the Qing Empire and Bulgaria are also part of the Central Powers?). Tore them to pieces and had everything except Sicily. Italy offered me peace and gave me Palermo and Catania. HOWEVER, all the other Central Powers nations are still at war with Italy. Austria-Hungary immediately after I made peace with Italy decided to move in and conquer the rest of their mainland; right now, the only bit of Italy that exists are its African colonies and that inaccessible desert part of Libya. They have no army or air force and their navy disappeared after they gave me Palermo (where they were holding out). Oh- and they're all still at war. In January 1914.

If you want post your savegame.

I've been having some weird stuff happen in my game, too...

Thank you for the report. You see, a lot has to been done still.

You can check last lines in history.txt to see which events fired last. Could be an issue in event.

The event that's occuring on the 24th of January 1914 is the one regarding the United States and the Nicaragua Canal.

MartinBG said:
Another idea is to enable ai switch logger (misc.txt) and check the log to see which is the last AI file used - could be an issue in AI file too.

Thanks. I'll try that now and post the results.

If you want post your savegame.

I might do that here in a bit.

Anything to make the mod better. Been playing it since it came out for Doomsday.

Edit:

I'm fairly sure now it's not the AI that's the problem. Changes in it only occurred for the 22nd and 23rd of January for Austria-Hungary.

Code:
1914-01-22 : [ Austria-Hungary ] -> [ Mods\1914 0.61/ai\switch/normal.ai ]
1914-01-23 : [ Austria-Hungary ] -> [ Mods\1914 0.61/ai\switch/allied.ai ]
1914-01-23 : [ Austria-Hungary ] -> [ Mods\1914 0.61/ai\switch/u11_lessborders.ai ]

I'll play around with event that's apparently causing the trouble and see if I can't fix what's causing me to crash.

Re-Edit:

I deleted its lines from usa.txt in the 1897-events folder, and everything works fine now- no crashes or anything. Here's what I removed for you all to look over. Maybe you can figure out at just a glance what was giving me trouble.

Just got done with a German playthrough. The war ended up going until Jan. 1919, and no issue with Belgium like I mentioned earlier. I was quite impressed by what's been done with the Russian Revolution and subsequent civil war. However, again I had the same problem with unhistorical outcomes. The Soviet Union ended up as a Social Liberal on one attempt, and Social Democrat in the next (a result of them going ahead with the elections in the Constituent Assembly event) with Kamenev as leader.

Also, the partisans that spring up can cause some really funky borders when countries break free.

I'd also suggest nerfing that Libyan country, because I have yet to see Italy defeat it. In this playthrough, Italy declared war historically (as oppossed to the US, who declared war with the Luisitania event), prompting the Libyans to join the Central Powers. They survived the remainder of the war as a tiny enclave of about 20 divisions in Tobruk and the border of Egypt. In other playthroughs, Italy has either been stalemated or been completely expelled from Libya, save for Tripoli.

Historically Senussi alived until the 1930s. This behaviour is quite historical, except the fact of 20 divisions. But there is no better way to make Senussi stronger as to give them more divisions.

That is quite historical. Italy had to struggle with the Lybian revolters until the '30s. During WW1, in september 1915, only Tripoli and Homs were in the hands of the Italians. Anyways, if Italy wins WW1 in Europe, the Italian forces combined with French and English should crush that enclave sooner or later.

misc.txt
# AI events action selection rules:
# 0-100 : Chance for the first valid action to be chosen. Remaining valid actions have equal chances. Used for events that do not have valid action with AI chance set, else AI chances are used
# -1 : Random - every valid action has the same chance. Used for events that do not have valid action with AI chance set, else AI chances are used
# -2 : Historical - First valid action is always selected. Used for events that do not have valid action with AI chance set, else AI chances are used
# -3 : Forced historical - First valid action is always selected if there is no AI chances set for a valid action, else - (first) valid action with the highest AI chance set is selected

Alright, so I went back and did a couple test runs to see what was causing it. You're right about the AI only picking the historical option. Each time they choose option_a in event 74212.

What happens, apparently, is that the slider change from event 74203 (Nationalization campaign, -1 free market) changes the government from a Social Democrat to a Liberal Democrat, which provokes a leadership change

Just a quick report on my game as Britain (British Empire).

The mod is great as always, but there are a couple of small errors I have noted up to my current year which is 1908, from 1897.

When Queen Victoria passes away in 1901, Canada retains her as head of state, evidently just a small event problem.

Another more irritating problem for me personally, is elections in Britain. Everything goes fine if you follow the historical event path, but I like a bit of freedom in what I do. I chose Austen Chamberlain (Over arthur balfour) when the Marquess of Salisbury retired as prime minister. That in itself is all good and well, however upon the 5 year term limit in 1905 there is no election, and even though historically the election was in feb 1906, this also did not come to pass and as stated its now 1908 with the same PM.

Just wondering whether this could be fixed with generic election events in place for all governments irrespective of their historical counterparts.

EDIT:

I also forgot to mention that the regency of Alphonse in spain seems to continue indefinately as he has never taken power in any of my games, and his mother has always remained.

Election events definitely need to be enhanced. I personally worked on Italy (the old events stopped with the 1903 elections) and Greece (no events at all). As for now, Balkan Wars and surrender events for WW1 are among the most pressing issues to fix, but of course any help would be well appreciated, even just a list of ministers and/or events to add :)

I was playing this game right up until the start of the great war and thinking "Why did I ever stop playing this in the original hoi2".

Then I remembered why, Germany's AI in regards to the invasion of Belgium at the start of the war. I should probably say lack of, as it just fails to do anything even remotely intelligent. 3 Belgian divisions just took Cologne and Aachen in quick succession in early summer 1914.

If this isnt fixed, I am afraid the game is unplayable for all but Germany.
