Proposal for both Presidential and Congressional elections;

1) Congress will be elected the same way as in Realpolitik, support the 11 man Congress proposal from Realpolitik.
2) Presidential elections, each party nominate 1 candidate, parties can form coalitions and push forward a common candidate. If no candidate in the first round get more than 50% of the votes, a second round with the two most succesful candidates will take place.
3) before the second round both candidates choose a running mate, who will become Vice President if the ticket win, the Vice President can be chose from the candidate's own party or from a party he wish to form a coalition with.
4) The winning president form a cabinet, each Cabinet member must be approved by Congress (except the Vice President). The Congress can vote for non- confidence in a Cabinet member, which will lead to the resignation of said Cabinet member, but the president and the vice president can't be removed before next election??

What do you say?

1) Nice
2) Very good idea to let the president be elected, after all it is the USA, but political parties need to be as important as well...
3)/4) I like the idea about the running mate, but the approval of the Congress is not needed for each cabinet member? Why not? If they perform very bad, they will get voted out anyway, 2nd reason is complexity and the long time it takes, 3rd reason, here more personal jealousy could play out where even members of the coalition partners could vote against...president ought to have at least some more power...

Nevertheless very good idea. The main thing we must keep in mind though, is that we have to keep the elections and the main process of ruling and decision making quite fast and certainly less slow than at TRP, because of different opinions. We need less discussion as it was in TRP but more focused on the subject, I'd say, give both sides (ruling parties vs opposition) twice the opportunity to comment on plans and their respective arguments...just like in court.

P.S. I have joined the glorious United America Party! For Democracy and Liberty! May the U.S. Eagle guard the world!

Will parties have a chance to decide which side to support in American civil war? I'm sure that potential Syndicalist parties would prefer to work with Reed, while some right-wing could support Long? If there will be dictatorship of MacArthur, Liberals could decide to work with PSA.

I don't think this could work in interactive AAR, it is just an idea. I just thought that parties could chose between American factions. Well, all factions call themselves American states, don't they?

The National Social Popular Revolver Party of Progressive Democracy (NSPRPPD)

America need a new deal, a combination of socialist reforms, nationalist fervor and Protestant morality. America must crush Syndicalism ans Autocracy and choose the enlightened path of democracy, socialism, nationalism and Protestantism.

Our neighbours are backward nations under incompetent rule; Mexico is ruled by sinful Syndicalism, Canada by british monarchist impotents and Cuba by regressive Latinos. America must take her place as the ruler of the Continent.

Vote for Democratic Socialist Nationalism! Vote National Social Popular Revolver Party of Progressive Democracy!!

But that's not a revolver!

We have rules concerning how the American civil war will work, yes. I'm not sure if these rules are going to be released to the public, but they will likely come into play in the 1936 election.

However, both Long and Reed, for all intents and purposes, does not exist in this timeline, since the American civil war is based off the 1936 election results. Long and Reed lost the election, that's why they rebelled. But, in this timeline, Long and Reed are not running for office. The civil war will likely have to occur through other means, and will likely be started by one of the parties in this AAR.

Yourworstnightmar: Er, we're going to have a little bit more simplistic rules concerning how the US Senate will be working.

I wonder if the Civil War is necessary at all? I always thought that it is perhaps the most unrealistic part of Kaiserreich since I can't imagine what could possibly have happened to lead to actual loss of control by the central government over the states.

Prophets of a New Order had some good reasons for it: a prolonged recession touched off by lack of trading partners and the bankrupcy of the UK, Reed's control over the unions threatening the US' control over the North, increased radicalism due to the splintering of the two-party system, General MacArthur's meeting with the President being leaked to the general public (radicalizing Reed and Long further), a hotly disputed election decided by the House of Representatives, and good old allegations of election fraud in both the North and the South all combined to create a perfect storm.

In that AAR, Reed called for a general strike after losing the Presidential election (because he lost the state of New York by the thinnest of margins...which was coincidentally, where the "election fraud" took place), and due to his control of the unions, was fairly successful in paralyzing the economy. The United States was unable to put down the strike, not even with the help of "scabs" protected by Huey Long's paramilitaries. Reed decided that the strikes were not working and created the CSA with the help of the unions. Huey Long, an opportunist, just knew where the wind was blowing and followed suit shortly thereafter.

This is basically the 'canon' kaiserreich story on the civil war. The recession hit the US harder as the Entente was unable to pay off its debts to the US. The rest went pretty much as Servant described it according to kaiserreich canon.

Only difference in Prophets of the New Order is that the writer made Franklin Roosevelt the new president, while Kaiserreich 'canon' says Roosevelt was assasinated in the '30s.

This is just Kaiserreich canon though. No reason not to create new threats and revolution if the game requires it.

It is? Oh. The thread said that he felt Kasierreich's story wasn't good, so he created the "long recession" to help explain the civil war.

No reason to create new threats and revolution if the game requires it.
You mean no reason not to create new threats and revolutions if the game requires that they get created? In this game, it is very possible to avert a civil war, but if a civil war does occur (for very different reasons, of course), I'm not going to stop it.

Still not convinced. The economic description in the Prophets of a New Order doesn't sound worse than the Great Depression. In no election ever has a state voted with more than 60-65% for a single candidate, which means no matter how popular, there would be 35-40% of the people at LEAST in each state opposing Syndicalism or other radical ideas. Probably much more. Disorder? Sure. Clashes with the population? Sure. Declaring independence and raising an army that is capable of fighting the federal forces? Not a chance in my opinion.

The author of Prophets gives a more thorough background than the kaiserreich wikia does, but the reasons for the civil war remain the same. Very deep recession and failure from Democrats and Republicans to offer a real solution.

My last post did contain a typo, of course I meant that threats and revolution can and must be created as the game demands it.

Most people who participated in the development of Kaiserreich had the same opinion on plausibility. The Civil War has always remained untouched because:
a. otherwise the US would be too powerful
b. this way the US becomes a wildcard, like Russia (syndicalist, dictatorship or democratic)
c. It is fun to play a US civil war and games are meant to be fun ;)

The very fact that the commie revolters are called CSA and the Southern revolters 'American Union State' should make clear that historic plausibility wasn't the creators first concern.

I understand that completely. But in this game, since there is huge possibility for modding and creating problems for us I feel that the writers should try to come up with more plausible problems for us to handle.

Yes, since our Parties has replaced the normal US KR parties Long and Reed should also be replaced.

However US should start with
a) terrible IC
b) high dissent
due to the prolonged depression.

Well, there was also a shizm in US armed forces, since many generals supported diffrent ideas about future of America. Uprising of population, support of local security forces(national guard, police...) plus ''rogue'' generals of federal army, this could realy spark such a massive conflict. I think that US civil war is very realistic event in KR world. Even pre-WW2 USA in the real world was becoming very unstable, imagine what would happen if USA would suffer such troubles like in KR history.

Would the armed forces really fall apart like that though? Rogue generals doesn't necessarily mean rogue troops. There's also the matter of industry, as modern warfare (for this time) would need planes and armor (as well as the skill in piloting the vehicles).

People are still signing up and already there is talk of which side to support in the inevitable civil war. This doesn't bode well for the 'country', or for the AAR, as conflict/dispute brought RP to its knees. I guess that's what happens when a country is deeply sectionalist from the moment of its creation.
