Story of a land
In the South of Germany
Before its time has come

Chapter 1. - Birth of a Nation

The Margrave Bernhard
Of Zähringer blood he came
Baden's ruler is

His people's ruler
Great his plans for power are
Subdue Württemberg

A map Baden
The land of our fathers
Founded by Romans

Helvetia southwards
Defying Austrian might
The will of Hapsburg

Würzburg, Mainz are north
Faithful vassals of Empire
Servants of Hapsburg

Southwest Austria
Powerful beyond belief
Must be deceived

Württemberg in East
Bernhard's land by right it is
Conquest shall be soon

War against Württemberg
Unifying realm

Baden's mighty men
Marched eastwards through the forrest
Black in spring's fair sun

The drums of war loud
Soldiers followed Berhnard
For Baden and God

While gone from Baden
Berhnard's wife, the beautiful
Maria alone

She ruled for Bernhard
50 ducats were given
to promote the mayor

On old mountain's side
Clashed cold steel and fiery spirit
Of warriors from both lands

Unprepared he was
The young Duke of Württemberg
The battle he lost

A great siege was laid
Upon Württemberg's great city
Stuttgart the famous

Besieged by Habsburg armies
Men carry the cross

Habsburgs are a threat
To my great plans for Baden
They must be appeased

A great storm from west
Rain drops settle on the leaves
Red from war they are

Stuttgart once the fair
Encircled by the great army
Houses red with fire

Duke of Württemberg
Worried for his land and crown
Daughter sent to Mainz

Great haste is needed
Before aid from Mainz arrives
City falls to us

Bernhard dictates peace
All Baden and Württemberg
One crown forever

Now a nation united
Faces great challenge

Troops from Mainz besiege
Rastatt, where Maria true
Awaits her husband

With all speed he has
Hastes through dark, black forrest
Aid for Maria

Battle fought bravely
In Baden's most treasured
City of Rastatt

Aided by Würzburg
Treacherous henchmen of Mainz
The battle was fought

Fighting spirit left
Armies fled back to Würzburg
Bernhard in pursuit

In Würzburg once more
Brave soldiers fought for their lords
New nation prevailed

Herald from Habsburgs
Visits Bernhard on the field
And asks for access

As faithful vassals
Devious Bernhard agrees
Blinding Habsburg mind

Opportunistic
Kleves and Hessen seize day
Now besiging Mainz

Guard reputation
He cannot annex Würzburg
But make them vassals

The new nation born
Fragile, Habsburgs ambition
The Swiss defeated
