Country:Luxembourgh
Scenario:Grand Campaign
Goals:To Unite Western Europe under the flag of Luxembourgh

1419: It was a brisk winter day, the snow had just begun to fall down upon the regal splendour that is the city of Luxembourgh. The Grand Duchess Elisabeth gazed upon her small city thinking of ways she could put Luxembourgh on the map, make it an economic and also military might that could compare to such nations as France, England, and Castile. But how could she accomplish this goal, what could she do to bring her country out of the darkness and into the middle ages, what could she do to make Luxembourgh a superpower?

This was a question that sat in the mind of the young Duchess for hours until there was a knock at the door of her study.
“Sorry to bother you, your majesty, but a diplomat all the way from Hungary has arrived shall I send him in?”
“Yes Jiene, send him in”
A man with a long white beard entered the oak-paneled study. He bowed before the Duchess and said,
“Your majesty I am a messenger from the Royal Court of Hungary, I am hear to tell you that Hungary has entered a war against the Papacy and wishes for assistance.”
“Assistance, what assistance could a small nation like ours give to you?”
“You are a member of a military alliance with the kingdom of Hungary, if you do not enter this war with us you will be seen as a traitor throughout the courts of Europe” replied the messenger.
“Then we will be seen as a traitor, our country neither has the army nor the money to support a war against the Papacy, as the sovereign of this kingdom I must decline.” The duchess spat back.
“Fine, the kingdom of Hungary hence fourth bands you from our military alliance and will see to it that no one from the kingdom of Luxembourg will ever touch Hungarian soil!” And with that the Hungarian messenger stormed out of the study.
When the study door shut the Duchess began to pace back and fourth, not knowing what do. Had she made the right decision, will she pay for not going along with this silly war? With 300 pieces of gold in her coffers and a standing army of 6000 men she could do nothing in this war, not to mention the sheer distance from Luxembourg to Rome and without any access to water it would be near impossible. All night this would be sitting in the mind of the young ruler, but something much more serious was about to happen which could change everything.

On the week of March 2nd a letter arrived from Phillip of Burgundy asking if the Duchy of Luxembourg wanted to join their allaince with England who are currently at war with France and her vassals. In a matter of seconds a reply was sent, the Duchess was thrilled with the invitation and from that moment on the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg was at war!

Although France has a large standing army that could easily overun Luxembourgs one province they could not spare any solider for England has landed 50,000 men in the province of Calais which were headed for Paris and would arrive no later then May if their was no resistance. Burgundy on the other hand was just about overrun, the only provinces that still bore the flag of Burgundy were Flandern and Franche-Com'te which was just about to be captured by Lorraine an ally of France.

Elisabeth knew that the only way this war could be won was if her armies captured the provinces of Artoise, Champagne, and Nivernaise for with these provinces in allied hands Paris would be isolated and would be starved into submission therefore ending the war with an allied victory. And so 2 loans were taken and war taxes were raised all males from the age of 14-35 would fight and any man caught hiding or disobeying this rule was to be banished from Luxembourg at once.

The first regiment dispatched was the Luxemburg Armee which contained 6000 infantry and 2000 cavalry. They were sent into the province of Nivernaise which was put under siege without haste. A regiment of 2000 men and 1000 cavalry was ordered and put together in June and sent to Brabant to secure the northern border from Gelre a French ally that had taken all of Burgundy's Dutch provinces. Also that month our military technology increased making our armies more capable in battle. By the 21st of June another army had been put together this one containing 3000 infantry and 2000 cavalry and was sent to Champagne and put the city under siege.

So far the war had been favoring the Duchesse's side but with the entry of the powerful Duchy of the Palatinate into the war on the French side all of this could change.

By July Champagne and Nivernaise had been captured and the English had caught all French provinces except for Paris. It was not the going to be the Duchess who would get the blame for the thousands of parisians that would die in a siege of the great city. The Duchess left all military operations up to her generals whome she had imported from Brandenburg home to some of the greatest generals the world had ever known.

After coming to a mutual decision the armies of Luxemburg would not be sent to Paris but to Artoise so that Paris would be isolated. The first army regiment to arrive in the province of Artoise contained 2000 men and 180 cavalry which is not enough to start and end a succesful siege and so with the arrival of the Luxemburg Armee the siege was put under way and would be finished in october of that year. Once the province was captured France quickly offered peace, offering the province of Champagne and 34 peices of gold, hearing of this the Duchess quickly accepted for the Army of the Palatinate was at the gates of Luxemburg itself.

After disbanding all armies besides the Luxemburg Armee which contained 4000 infantry and 250 cavalry Luxemburg resumed its normal habit of watching from the side lines.

Outcome of the First French War: Englang gained the provinces of Guyenne, Languedoc, and Lyonaise as well as military accses to France and Provence.

Burgundy lost provinces of Holland and Zeeland to Gelre and Brabant and Artoise to France, and has to give military accses to France, Gelre, and Provence as well as pledge alligance to the crown of France.

The end of the year was celebrated with the 21st birthday of the Duchess and the 111th birthday of the kingdom of which she rules. Luxemburg has survivded a war with France and had actually won, which brough renowned fame to the Duchy and renowned humiliation to France. Luxemburg had now secured its place as a power in the HRE, so what would the Duchess do next go to war again or expand economically, only time will tell.

1420: It was an unusually warm winter in Luxemburg that year, but not all was bad the economy had been of the rise with 450 peices of gold in its treasures Luxemburg was one of the wealthist and most prosperous Duchies in the HRE. By March the army had risen from 4000 to 8000 men and the city of Luxemburgs population had risen from 7000 to 8500 people in the last year. With a growing economy The Duchess thought it smart to follow in the foots steps of Potugal who had been rumured to have discovered the african kingdom of mali and begin exploration and colonization. But how could this happen with out accses to and ocean and saw the Duchess began to build up plans for an invasion of her large eastern neighbor of Gelre.

On the 14th of April a letter from the Duke of Lorraine arrived the letter contained a delclaration of war from Lorraine as well has Provence and the Palatinate, France and the other members of the allies could not bear another defeat at the hands of England and the Duchy. And so the mobilization of the armed froces of Luxemburg began. But Luxemburg would not fight this war alone England would be fighting alongside the Duchy in hopes of exapanding its power in western and central europe.

An Army of 6000 men and 2000 cavarly was conscripted and sent to Lorraine while the Luxemburg Armee was sent to Hiedleberg the capital of the Palatinate. If all goes well Luxemburg could further show its power in Western Europe.

Look at the stickied threads here on the AAR forum. There's one called "LibrAARy update" or something. You go there and tell something like:

"I just started an AAR. The name is xxxxxxxx, the country is yyyyyyyy, started on the year zzzz, on the scenario aaaaaaaa. The link is this: bbbbbbbbb."

The Army arrived in Nancy in and quickly beat the Army their, but it did not all go well north in Hiedleberg!!! When the Army arrived their they were quickly pushed back by the palatinate but persued again and was pushed back until finally the broke through and put the city under siege. But after a week the Palatinate offered a white peace which was excepted, so now the war was between Provence ( really only in name) and Lorraine whose capital and of Nancy was just about to fall.

Nancy finally fell in July and Lorraine was made a vassal, after 2 wars Luxemburg had risen to become the most respected and most powerful Duchy in the HRE and maby western Europe . In september fortoforcations were made in Champagne as well as the capital city which had become a bustling metroplis home to 12,500 people (quite large for back then). The Duchess now 22 had become weary, for she still wanted to persue her plans to invade Gelre but was unable to do it because of lack of resourses predomintly money and a large standing army.

By october war had come knocking on the door of the Duchess once again, this time from Austria a far but influential and powerful nation. Baden, Wurtemburg, Saxony, Brandenburg, Cyprus, and Bohemia all joined in on the war. Although their was no threat of invasion because none of the warring countries touched or had military accses which would get them to Luxemburg, the Duchess still raised war taxes and began to build up her forces . By mid-november the Army of Luxemburg contained 20,000 infantry, and 6,000 cavalry quite large for a two province nation.

December was a month of bad weather, all roads west of the rhine were closed due to ice, sleet, and heavy fog. All though nothing signifacant happened in Luxemburg the map of Europe had changed drastically...

A new power had risen in the north, Holstien had annexed Denmark, Pommen, Mecklemburg, Munster, and had taken several Norwegian and Swedish Porvinces. Byzantium had been annexed by the Turks of the Ottoman Empire in the balkans who had also annexed albania, trabzon, georgia, wallchia, and molovia and made raguse a vassal through diplomacy.
