People Of Cyprus
![]() Relegion: Though the state Relegion is Catholic, a majority of the citizens are Orthodox. The Five Classes of Cyprus (a) The Parici, the largest class and the lowest grade in the social scale, were regarded almost as slaves by the owners of the estates on which they lived. They were not allowed to leave the land which they cultivated, and had to give a third of their produce to their feudal lord as well as personal service. They were liable to be sold or exchanged and could be awarded any punishment, except death, at the wish of their lord. (b) The Perpiriarii were few in number and like the Parici were tied to the land, but they had purchased the personal freedom of themselves and their children and in lieu of service had to make an annual payment of 15 bezants to their feudal lord. (c) The Lefteri were Parici who had been emancipated either on payment or by the good will of their lord. They had to pay a proportion of their produce of their land. The children born after emancipation were free, but if they married women of the Parici class, the children were classed as Parici. (d) The Albanians were the descendants of the soldiers who had been brought from Albania to Cyprus for the defence of the island. They had settled in Cyprus and intermarried with the Cypriots. Their descendants still call themselves Albanians, drew pay, and carried arms, though in reality they had become peasants rather than soldiers. They were no longer of any military value, and were, under the Lusignans, deprived of their pay and military status. (e) The White Venetians were the descendants of the soldiers whom Vital Michaele, the Doge of Venice, led on a crusade to the Holy Land in 1123 and who afterwards settled in Cyprus. They paid a small sum annually to the lord of the estate on whose land they had settled, and had the legal right of being tried by a Venetian nobleman who resided at Nicosia with the title of Consul. A Roman arrived at the court. He bowed to the King,
Greeting, I am ambassador Demetrois to this court from teh Roman Empire if his highness would accept. I am here to establish the friendship between the Roman Empire and Cyprus. Also, I am here to facilicate the trade between Roman Empire and Cyprus. Emperor Alexius was gladden to hear that Cyprus is opened to then world once again. Emperor also offer the alliance between us if you are interested. The Emperor also extend an invitation to you to Constantinople if you should desire it. He bowed and fell silent. He hopes that he haven't arrived too early (ooc: if you are not finished, please tell me and I will delete this post.)

The King, (interupted from his stareing contest with the family pet)is a little puzzled and suprised at such an important guest, stumbles around looking for a stool for Demetrios. The servants tell him to settle down and they bring out a rackety chair, the King, sweating is led to his "Throne"
Royal Cypriot Throne The King clear's his throat waiting for his servants to pronounce him, the servant's are clueless at what the King want's but finnally get the Idea, and pronounce "King of Cyprus, Ruler of Georgia is now ready to speak with you" The King Speaks "Medditerrarian friend, we have been busy as you see, and should be thankful that I have taken time out of my busy dealings to see you. Your offer of Alliance, will be accepted, but this is an act of mercy granted to your Kingdom rather than a gain for us, as we all know that Cypruses army is envied throughout the land. We also know that your country wishes to taste the wine of Cyprus, we shall see what we can do about that, for now accept this bottle of Royal Cypriot Water. On your invitation to Constantinople, I will have to get back to you on that, as my scheduale is currently full". With that the King asked the royal court gaurds(By gaurds he ment the few servants holding fishing poles in their hands) to escort the diplomat safely back to his ship.

A letter arrives with a merchant vessel.
"King of Cyprus, It have come to our attention that the island of Cyprus once again has opened its ports and lines of communication. It pleases me as I believe Egypt and Cyprus can become involved inmutual trade that would give propserity to both our nations. Egypt has a past of good relations with Cyprus and it would be wonderfull if these good relations could continue to thrive. Back to the matter of trade, Egypt would appricieate shipments of lumber aswell as copper. In return, Egypt has several valuable goods to trade with. Send me your thoughts about this issue. signed by Ahmed Abu Mazar, Grand Vizier of Egypt "

At the Most Holy Caliphs Court in Cairo
![]() Upon reading the letter from Cyprus the Caliph lifts an eyebrow. "Strange, I cant recall writing any letter to the heretic King of Cyprus. That messenger must have taken a wrong turn somewhere in Cairo. It seems more likely that this letter should be delivered to the Citadell and the Sultan of Egypt." The Caliph waves for one of his servants. "Ahmed, see to that the Sultan recives this letter from the King of Cyprus"

"Dratz! I'm never going to get ahold of this silly court business and all these titles like Caliph and Sultan! How stupid! Why cant they just be the same!!" The King brings in Amaury Fello"From now on you handle all letters I cant take it." The King returns to his knitting (a jack of all trades)

A letter from the Basileos arrives in Cyprus
To the most Gracious Jean, king of all Cypriots We greet thee with utmost respect and brotherly love, great king of Cyprus. The silence that has struck your fair isle for so long has greatly disturbed me. Thusly, we are most glad that your court once more receives embassies and letters from foreing princes. The Empire offers you it's hand in friendship in this time of distress and conflict in our part of the world. For be God Almighty be our witness, we shall not allow either heathen or schismatic to soil your isle with their despicable presence. Unity in faith, unity in brotherhood. We thus ask that you consider swearing an oath of just law binding thy kingdom forever with the last defenders of the true faith and church: The Empire and the land known as Wallachia, who not long ago have sworn to come to each others' aid in a league christened the Union of St. Andrew. In the name of the Lord. Theodoros Palaeologos Basileus Basileon Basileuon Basileonton King of Kings, Ruler of Those Who Rule

The King meet's the Byzantium Messenger at the beach , while picking seashells with his soldiers.
The king wait's for the servants to announce him again, but again they are silent, he begins to clear his throat, but mumbles "forget it" as the servants shrug their arms. The King speaks " Im glad you have come to my court... beach* today, we hold the highest regard for your kingdom King motions for help on what kingdom the diplomat is from, a servant says Greekland ..Greekland. (The King takes Byzantiums letter and reads it) Please send back this message from the Kingdom of Cyprus to your ruler, as I'm not to keen on Geography." The King quickly writes a message on some tattered parchmant that was being used as a wipe for his slight cold ![]() " Dear Basileos, All of cyprus is thankful for your kind words. I accept your proposal of friendship but im a little hazy on what you mean by swear an oath binding my kingdom. By this do you mean that we'd have to convert our state relegion of catholicsm to Orthodoxy?" Regards, King Jean II, King of Cyprus, Ruler of Georgia"

A letter from the Basileos arrives in Cyprus just a few days later. It is not far to Athens.
To the most Gracious Jean, king of all Cypriots While a rejection of the schismatic's doctrines would be a most welcome deed by your majesty, we would not dare to demand such a thing of you. It is known to us that many of your subjects are followers of the true orthodox church, for your fair isle was once part of the Roman Empire and only recently by our reckoning have westerners brought their beliefs there. If you are pleased by our suggestion, we would bel glad to host an embassy of your majesty at our court in Athens. In the name of the Lord. A letter from Cairo arrives.
"King of Cyprus, It pleases the Sultan that you will agree on mutual trade. Within this letter is a propsed trade agreement. Please let us know your thoughts about it. I believe that it will provide your people with cheaper wheat and salt. On a different note, I and the Sultan, trust that the noble Kingdom of Cyprus wont engage in any hostile diplomacy against the realms of muslims, such as joining heretic alliances who΄s days are doomed by Allah anyway... signed by Ahmed Abu Mazar, Grand Vizier of Egypt" The proposed agreement is included. "The Sultanate of Egypt will lower tariffs on Wheat and Salt by 50 percent for Cypriotic mechants. Likewise, the Kingdom of Cyprus shall lower tariffs on Lumber and Cupper by 50 percent. The Kingdom of Cyprus shall provide assistance in the Egyptian navalyards, with skilled craftmen for the purpose to enhance the quality and enlargement of the Mameluke Navy. To accomplish this the Mameluke Sultanate will pay the Cypriotic craftsmens wages, but the Kingdom of Cyprus will pay for their travels plus any extra costs. The Mameluke Sultanate will provide with security for any Cypriotic merchant and craftsmen visiting and working in Egypt plus allowing them to practise their way of belief in Alexandria. Houses will also be set up in Alexandria, at the Sultanates expense, for the craftsmen and their families."

The letter is forwarded to Constantinople (Where the king is currently taking a tour) via message in a bottle
A bottle hits the shore, bearing the royal seal of Cyprus ![]() The King takes out the letter, quite pleased with the magnificence of the Roman Empire, feel's a strong renewal of greekish pride, and feels that it is his new duty to help defend. After taking a swig of some wine the King recites the Oath "May it be our advisor, whenever we needs advice, May it be our thoughts, and make us wery wize, May it be our guidance, and always show us the light, May it be our sword, when we will need to fight. We shall stand side by side, as brothers in faith, and defend the faith with out swords against all those who seek to oppress us or deny us what is rightfully ours. (while Jean is still in Constantinople) Prince John take's ahold of the Sultans letter, knowing his King has just signed a Union act with Byzantium he is enraged, as Prince John comes from a deeply religious portoguese Catholic family.
John thinks to himself, how shall I Respond to the Sultan ruler, in a way to truly anger him. King Jean has already gotten away with making deals with Orthodoxy, I wont let him go as far as to send Catholic Cypriots down to live in Egypt and become infested with Muslim relegion! John begins to write the letter, forging The Kings name.....
