Granada Fantasy Events
Garbon and others were working on Granada Fantasy events previously, but it sort of died down. Unfortunate for me, since I'm playing Granada right now, and I could use them
![]() Garbon post four events: "Recapture of Andalusia" where Granada would have the option of moving their capital. "Restoration of Alcazar" where Granada would have the option to fully restore Alcazar, a massive castle and military fortification in Andalusia. "Restoration of La Alhambra" the palace and center of court which was also a major military installation in Grenada. "Contrareconquista of Toledo" which allows Granada to make nice with the Iberian powers or outfit and fortify Toledo for war. Surely, however, a resurgent Granada would not stop there. Yesterday I posted my first event ever (yay!). It was Granada choosign whether or not to claim the mantle of Cordoba and triggered off moving the capital to Andalusia. Shouldn't there be a lot more? Here are some events that I envision for a Fantasy Granada: Catholic Revolts. Maybe several events. French Assistance to Catholic rebels Papal organization of Catholic rebels Jihad on Catholic Iberia after these revolts continue Option to openly welcome Protestants into domain Option to expel Catholics (sort of like the expellation events for Spain, only backwards) What to do with the Jews? Against the Papacy Welcoming Moslem Scholars and Refugees from Africa What to do with Christian Missionaries? Joint military operations with the Ottomans Option to reciprocate by sending Islamic Missionaries into Europe Modernizing the Army, Navy, Government and Such Anyways, that's what I look forward to. What else? -Anxiety |

I'm not so sure about moving the Capitol to Cordoba. Granada was an entirely different entity to the Kaliphate. By this time the Ummayadds had been scoured from the earth in any case. After the civil war 400 years before, Cordoba was a shadow of its former self.
The capture of Murcia (probably the strongest Morrisco community outside of Granada) would be important possibly a tax value or monarch change event. It's little known but Navarre had a strong Muslim contingent... Could we use this?

Oh and, I'll help script/think up events if you want. I'm a bit of an amateur Al-Andalus historian. Just email me: dle1@st-andrews.ac.uk

I did not know that about Navarre. Interesting. I think that we could. A resurgent Granada capturing and releasing a large Muslem contingent. Interesting. As for reclaiming Cordoba, here is my philosophy behind it: In the centuries that had passed, Cordoba has become an icon of Islam. Tales and legends were told about Cordoba throught Iberia, North Africa, and the Middle East. As such, a Granada, which could make a claim for being a successor state (albeit a loose one, granted) would feel hard pressed to take the mantle of Cordoba. A grand vision, certainly. But one worth serious consideration. However, with Christians falling in the East to the Ottomands and in the west to Granada, I don't think that moving the capital and reclaiming Cordoba would be that far fetched. I have three options: Stay Granada, Claim to be the Kaliphate of Cordoba, claim to be the Sultanate of Cordoba. I think the third is the most likely course of action for a Granada that moved their capital. That's why the options are there for the player. The computer might choose it, but that's why Garbon put moving the capital as the second of two choices, and why I put claiming the Kaliphate as the middle of three choices. Because I doubt that the fairly weak rulers of Granada would be daring enough to claim Cordoba or it's title. -Anxiety |

). On one of the possible routes, the Catholic "Spaniards" living in Granada take over the nation and it'd eventually be annexed by Spain or become a vassal Christian state. It seems possible that Christians in the area could have been subversive. I stopped on all these events when I looked at the poor "historical" situation across the Mediterranean in North Africa...BTW, My Spanish in high school so payed off when I was researching all of this, as all the good sites were in Spanish

I'd say that a strong enough Granada could claim to be the Caliphate of Cordoba (I know I'm missing the "thingy"
) but its unlikely that anyone would agree and hence the relation drops.I still want to do something with the fact that Boabdil was related to the Sultan of Morocco but I don't know what. The fantasy dynasty bit is still sketchy, but here's what I have: Quote:

Hmmm. I was kind of hoping that there was some feeling out there for Granada fantasy events. As I did research in this forum, I found that a lot of people posted in topics on Granada and wanted fantasy events. But it seems like Garbon, myself, and Evil Knevil are really the only three willing to work on them. And there have been few responses.
Makes it seem like a dead idea.... -Anxiety |

Do we really need more than about 3 people?
I just hope more people than that are willing to play with fantasy Granada.Navarre: "A muslim presence in such a relatively northerly kingdom must seem anomalous if we fail to bear in mind that Tudela, second city of Navarre -which lay to the south of the mountains, had been founded by the Arab invaders in the eighth century. It was the focal point for a number of flourishing agricultural settlements in the district known as La Ribera (not a steak place!). The Navarrese Mudejars held high office under the crown and served the army with distinction". -Muslim Spain 1250-1500, L.P Harvey. University of Chicago Press, 1990. DP102.H2 The Navarrese Government was extremely protective of its Muslim contigent, posting 20 soldiers to protect the quarters of Tudela from crusaders(about 10!) passing south. Before their explusion in 1516 (by the Castilians) the Mudejars made up about 1/4 of the population. (From various arabic sources).

Alright then gentlemen. Garbon, you mentioned you had worked on some fantasy Catholic Rebellions but were looking for them. Find them yet?
What did they trigger off? I initially thought about Granada capturing Castilla, but after some thought, I moved away from that idea. However, my next idea was to trigger off Granada's size, but if a player turned Granada into a peaceful colonizing empire, that would cause problems. So what is a legitimate trigger? Another question, because it came up in my game - if Granada reclaims a Catholic Murcia, should there be a religion changing event for the province, or should Granada have to do it the hard way? Let's start with the Catholic rebellions. What ideas do you guys have? -Anxiety |

Our range for event tags, by the way, is 176000 - 177000 for Granada.

I have the events but they aren't much to look at. It seems that back then I never thought about triggers
However, I do think that the triggers should depend mainly on Granada owning more of the peninsula. I mean it would be the gaining of more Catholics that would cause a problem. Additionally, and this could tie in as an event sequence in case Granada survives into the 16th century, which it shouldn't , but we could also have a sequence that triggers of a peaceful Granada that still exists with a text like : after to failing to conquer Granada by force, the Catholic Kings took a more 'covert' approach and began funding rebellions in the region.I'll still post my initial rebellion events, ASAP, though they are more of just a frame if anything.

Catholic Revolts.
More than catholics, christians revolts were true in the IX century.
Omar ben Hafsun (Omar son of Alfonso) was the son of a visigothic count. He was muladí; but after a revolt against the power of Cordoba, he built a chapel in Bobastro, near Malaga. Muladies and mozarabes joined him, challenging the islamic power with christians armies. He died named Samuel, showing the christian change. Maybe the option for turning back to the original religion was among the muslim society. And this version of "moriscos" in the XVI century is possible in this fantasy. ----------------------- muladí. (from hisp.ar. muwalladín, pl. *muwállad, and from clas.ar. muwallad, -> born of no arabic mother). christian spaniard who accepted islamic religion in order to live between muslim society. mozárabe. (from hisp.ar. musta‘rabí, and from clas. ar. musta‘rab, -> influenced by arabic). christian spaniard who remainded his religion between muslim society. |
