AI - The evil Genius
I've decided that, in fact, the AI is an evil genius. Picture the scene: Europe in 1484, England still with some French possessions, France pretty strong, me (Spain), with my orginaly porvinces, minus Toledo, (i hate inflation), but with a nice little empire). Difficulty Normal, i'm trying something different and don't want BB wars/ lots of BB
Alliances: Spain (me), Portugal (my vassel), Aragon, France vs England, Scotland (?), Hessen and Mainz. France declares war on England to take back the rest of France, fair enough. Planning to annex Portugal soon and happy to be in the all-powerful alliance (and to stop Aragon DOW'ing France and losing), i agree to join the war, it can't take that long, can it ? Years later, despite doing absolutley nothing in the war, my WE is up to 8% in core provinces, Manhatten is on like 16% RR, and probably 50,000 people from Gibralter have revolted and died. Yet England won't make peace, even though it clearly cannot hold France. It knows (i'm sure of it), that everyone gets the same WE and it can sit in its nice little island while Europe goes up in flames. Trying to get a 36 month white peace, cos of no action between me and anyone else, i manage to get White Peace with Scotland (noone else). England is refusing offers of 200d at 0% warscore. So, 2 years of no action, my colonial empire on the verge of ruin, massice WE. Still, only 1 more year to go. Then the message: 1000 English troops burn down some random African trading post.. NOOOOOOOOO I almost cried. |

which goes to illustrate why I think that WE should NOT be doubled in "colonial" possessions.....IMO the scheme of double WE in non-core provinces is meant to limit non-core expansion in Europe (or homecontinent) NOT making it impossible to wage war for colonial nations......

This is a perfect example of why it is now very important to help your allies win wars (and quickly) even if you have no real stake in them yourself. It's also a demonstration of why being in an alliance at all is something of a risk. Surely if you stick with France as your ally you will find yourself in war after war after war.

Vynd is absolutely right. I always go it alone the moment I'm strong enough to do so (which varies depending on the international situation). Haven't really tried the 1.06b2 yet, but my Poland under 1.06 stretched from the North Sea to the Black Sea, and my reputation was... honourable. That's after the Lithuanian unification event, too. No, go it alone, join in alliances only if you specifically want to get into a rumble - that's the ticket, in my opinion.
Of course when one starts as a 1 province minor one has to get into deals with all these shady people in order to progress. But the moment one has a dozen provinces and can afford to keep 30k men under arms... bonjour liberte. |
