Unhappy Lost my first game last night

Played Poland in 1936 scenerio. Built up a few land forts along the German border. Built a few infantry (14-16 extra). And researched a few land doctrines-got my troops up to about 45-50 org.

Late 1938 comes about Germany send ALL of its units to the Poland border LOL. Only leave 9 infantry on the French border. 1939 Germany stomps a mud whole in my a$$. Still only 9 infantry next to French border and well over 50 units against me. I tried to hold off as long as i could. I took out Prussia, Latvia, and even pushed a little into German soil. Then Slovokia pushed up into southern Poland i had to pull back to reclaim my land.

Huge mistake. Germany over ran my border lands and took out my infantry behind level 2 forts with ease.

Playing on most difficult level and even though i got crushed it was still a rush trying to hold out. I lasted about 8-9 months after Germany invaded. But after that there was no hope and i watched my country get annexed and i lost. After all this time i thought the AI was stupid and to easy i finaly got a good challenge. I think i will play Poland again tonight and see if i can last even longer.

What are your strats when playing Poland? I dont think there is much hope for Poland if German AI plays smart.

Defend in non-clear terrain, this will reduce effectiveness of germanys tanks& mech. There is a wonderful river line that runs right through the middle of your country. Defend your fronteir areas and fall back to this line(build forts). You will be pushed back in the open plains in the west but there are oppurtunities elsewhere(Hungary,Slovakia,Prussia). You will bleed the germans with this strategy while waiting on Soviets to join the war. Good luck.

I made it to mid '41 after giving up Danzig and eventually being invaded in Jan '40. I eventually had my entire army (42 divisions) sitting in Warsaw on top of a level 4 fort and level 10 AA guns beating back wave after wave of Jerries. By the time they finally took me out the suburbs of Warsaw were littered with the carcasses of DOZENS of aircraft groups.

I used successive fortresses and AA gun emplacements to make the Germans pay dearly for every inch.

Sorry about the loss. I still remember my first game, when I as Japan was defeated by nationalist China and beaten back to Korea..

I have not yet played as Poland, so cannot be much help. Sorry. However, if you build many tanks perhaps you can blitzkrieg Germany

I lost as germany about a week ago, started in '36 on the new bolt of war thing a ma bob, i dont mess around though so i take every prov on my way through. so when i was attacked by russia in '42 after knocking out france and about to go to poland as they caved in to my danzig demands they dow'ed me, i raced through poland and annexed, then was going into russia when i realized they had 250 divisions of infantry and KV1 tanks going against my tiger tanks i kept falling back to defensive lines and had to give up france when paris was liberated by a lone brit tank, and vichey annexed. i fell back to the vistula then oder, and finally they surrounded Berlin but woldnt attack my 126 divisions sitting on top of a fort >:/ but i called it a defeat, since they had 300 divs in their army and not one militiamen

currently fighting a no cheese very hard poland 36..so far id say im losing..although ive destroyed more than 20 divsions...i have a pocket trapped in danzig which is slowing losing org because its cut off and same with pocket in lwow which held off hungary and czech assaults time and time again...15 divisions in danzig and 8 in lwow the rest are in warsaw and holding firm..although ive lsot every other province...my warsaw defenders include a few mountain troops i built plus 6 arty and 6 anti armor cavalry i built plus the bulk of my infantry from start <the cavalry was my fast response force used to reinforce areas under attack asap> thought my line of level 3 forts along whole border plus level 8 anti air <became level 9 after the invasion began> would buy me time to build more troops <had 6 arty 6 anti armor mountain troops under work> however the lack of secondary lines of forts left me very weak once breakthroughs occured..i held several times at the wall by bryo was the one that failed and failed hard..the retreatign troops were reifnorced by late reifnrocements and held off 3 more assaults before finally being pushed back again and again...at this point my retreat began..i tried one coutner attack on the falnk with 11 divsions from elbing against torun <3 defending german divsions > and was repulsed adding to the 4 garrsion divsions in danzig taking them out of my war ...currently its late january 40 and im still holding..but time will tell...

Build forts on yoour border with AA. Start building these defenses on Jan 1, 1936. Keep at least a small mobile defense force - it can be INF, but position it well - Lodz perhaps.

I've won as Poland starting in 36. Its a blast when you can pull it off!

To survive as Poland in 36

research all land and arty techs that give bonuses to your infantry..+ a few doctrines if you can (FORGET air , subs, naval and rockets)

try to research techs to get some good light tanks by war start

improve your industry first year... then build forts and AA along your border with Germany from Lvov to Dantzig (you are more or less inspired by the French to build your own Maginovski line)

build infantry with arty, they are much stronger... as soon as you have researched decent tanks (I suggest improved light tanks with at least 50mm gun), build those with arty or Eng...

garrison each border province evenly and leave a reserve to react to ennemy attacks

overrun east prussia as soons as war starts

in addition some advocate an aggressive annexation campaign starting in 36... I think this is rather "strange" .....Poland annexing baltic states I think is reasonable historically.... anything else detracts from a "historical" game... of course once Poland has beaten Germany , history is down the drain so you can do whatever you like.....

below is what I already posted re a game with Poland...

*************************************************

Poland in 1.02
I started the 1936 scenario as a challenge to see how long Poland could survive.. I fortified my border with Germany and researched inf + tanks.. I took over one of the baltics state but that's a 20% dissent hit.....

Germany procedeed along the historical path.... but the Czech choose to fight and were subdued.. that led to war with the allies (of whom I was not part).... Next Germany deamnded Dantzig in August 39, I refused....

They attacked.... By then I had a line of level 2 forts + 2 AA all across the border and I was receiving my first tanks... I quickly overan east Prussia then used those forces as mobile reserves to reinforce any point the germans were attacking... On the west front they took over holland, belgium and got to Sedan... but in Poland they got nowhere... As I got more tanks I started slowly moving against them.. First trapping their forces in Slovakia and destroying them, them pushing them back and encircling one territory at a time... Bottom line, to my surprise in June 1941 I conquered Germany ( with about 4 provinces taken by the allies)..

I then Joined the allies and annexed hungary, swiss, yugo, rumania, bulgaria, turkey, greece, albania, persia, irak, oman, saudi, yemen, denmark, Afghan.. Then I declared war on Italy and took all the Italian mainland... and let them play with the brits and french in north Africa... I fortified my border with USSR, researched advanced medium tanks and in 1945 declared war on the USSR.....Without help from the allies (except for strat bombing which proved a nuisance since it destroyed infrastructure in places I wanted to go) I annexed the USSR in about 6 months and went on to occupy Japan and China + Siam (Japan had declared war on us in 1942) by end 1946....

This is achieved with an army of under 60 divs and an airforce of 15 tac bombers (can't do more with the limited Polish manpower)....

But you should fortified your firstline province and later on build AA in them.

I can't help but feeling that there should be a stacking limit to each province. 42 divisions sitting in Warzaw feels a bit too crowded, no?

I finished a h/f game as Poland recently. Lasted untill july 1940 with a last stand in Warszawa.

I never managed to build new divisions, and that was a mistake. I spend too much time building economy.

It was rotten luck, though, that the entire Czechoslovakia joined the axis (no sudeten incident or annexation, mind you - they jlined voluntarily!). That adds something like 30 divisions to the axis pool...

I think one should have AA units in core places and a few AT units at the border. Tanks - even light - appear a luxury to me as they will fight poorly if you don't research a lot of tank stuff. The inf AT tech is cheaper.
