God loves third try: Castille is better than France - A WC AAR.

God loves third try and here is my proposal:

Doing WC with France become quite common in AAR section. But wait, why France is better than our beloved Castille? I will prove with your help that Castille can do WC. Also it can do even before than Small Blue France did.

Country: Castillle
Grand Campaign start date: 14 October, 1399
Version: EU3 HttT first release.
Settings: Default.

House Rules

* Castille will not form Spain.
* No cheats / No known game exploits (

1. Claiming the throne of Aragon

Castille is the biggest and strongest Kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula. It has four neighbours which are Aragon, Portugal, Navarre and Granada. In addition of them there is one nearby rival for them: Kingdom of France. All but one is Muslim or heathen. And their fate will be decided by our god Jesus Christ!

But there is some things to do first. First one is embracing Domestic Policy to Land. Because the real victory will be decided by land battles.

Next one is: "A good king needs good advisors", so King Enrique III de Trastamara hired 2 statesmen and 1 master of mint in his court.

Then by his advisors' word he decided to claim throne of other kingdoms that lack heirs with decent claim. Claiming nearby kingdom's throne will be most appropriate choice. Left possibles choices are either Aragon, Navarre or both of them.

This matter has to be postponed, because god wants Christians in the Iberian peninsula are have to be in good relations.

God's wish fulfilled as we received news of weakening The Hanseatic League.

Next marriage will be with Aragon and we will claim their throne when time comes.

With country stabilized god wants us to finish the Reconquista.

Finally time has come and we claimed the throne of Aragon.

It's effect has been felt soon afterwards.

But unfortunately King of Aragon has died at the battle of Navarre and we lost our claim, because we've got less prestige then from them.

Despite this we decided to begin god's mission.

After conquest war declared we defeated Granadans first at Granada, then at Almeria.

With their army routed it's matter of time for their surrender. Meantime Castille passed religious decision "Blasphemy Act!".

As siege goes we received news of "Vassalization of Navarre" by Aragon, so we warned Aragon.

Then out of blue Holy Father excommunicated small relatively unknown French Duchy called Bar.

This wasn't end, king Enrique planned to execute his advisors for the failure of claim throne of Aragon. But at the last moment he forgiven them and let them go free to show his generousness to his people. Soon after he hired new advisors in his court.

With new advisors, new era will begin in the Castille. This is the end of first chapter.

I thought it will be ended like this. But there were some surprises that should be written here.
First surprise is Aragon claimed our throne!

Just then we successfully assaulted fort of Almeria to finish conquest war against Granada.

We accrued 5 infamy because of conquest CB. 1 infamy for Gibraltar and 4 to Almeria. If we didn't have a core on Almeria it would have been 8.

Then I have done my kept move, making Gibraltar our national focus.

In the end lucky event occurred. With it Aragon's claim became nonsense.

So we reached 20 picture limit. That's why I will really end here.

Sliders looked nice for the startup... And 2 positive STAB missions too...? God likes your third try alot. I was hoping for you to grab Aragon with the claim, that would have been the trifecta.

With France being the 'medium sized' Blue Girl now, smacking her early makes alot of sense, not to mention much creation of free friction and BB... er Infamy reducing CBs. (You should apply for a CB card...) That and you'll be fighting wars on two fronts...

I like the pics, though 1024x768 would look like shite on my monitor. And yes, the HT³ info will be helpful. Very helpful.

I do have one question though... 12 Invested in Gov tech verses 3% National Taxes... Could you look at the values and tell me if the 3% even comes close...?

Oh yeah, and... GO enkhuush...!

When time comes Catalans will learn their fate. Also it's nice to have land connection between all domains. But I don't know how strong HRE have become.

Thanks for your advise. About your question, can you write again?

Gov tech ~24 ducats invested. Taxes 0.5 invested, because there -0.2 Master of Mint.

I'm a wondering if the 3% Tax boost is equal to or greater than the 12 ducats the advisor would give you. In my world, the Statesman is still employed, especially over the Sheriff at this point in the game.

You say 24d invested now at 100%... It would be more if he was still around, or better yet you could be putting 20d into land to help the war machine or Prod to get to workshops faster.

I'm curious as to just how many ducats that 3% is.

Totally agree on the MoM and Diplomat. Will definitely come in handy. And given growth the Sheriff would out pace the Statesman, just usually not this early.

Only for a short time... Once you get the second front going I'm sure you'll find ways to increase your tax base.

You should also check and see if he effects EOY taxes as well. If the 3% is given monthly and EOY it's not so bad. I am unclear as to yes or no at this point. (Dang sieve for brains... Too many holes I tell ya...!)

If you had used the holy war CB instead of conquest CB, then you would only have gotten 2 infamy (25% of both provinces). or if you had used reconquest, it would have been 4 infamy (4 for Gibraltar, 0 for Almera)..
so infact using the conquest CB is the worst of the CB for Castille to use in this case

the core on Almera didnt matter for the infamy cost.. each province costs 4 infamy (except the last one when you annex which cost 8 infamy) no matter if you have a core or not (the core only matters if you use reconquest.. in which case cored provinces are free)
