Event Edit

I don't know if this is possible but I'm sure you would be able to tell me. This edit is probably to local for anyone else to want it but if someone knows how could they tell me how to do it. During Cromwells short-lived and misguided reign the Town of Wallingford used to have a huge castle surronding it (Windsor Castle and a few Churches were built from its stone). Wallingford was and still is a Royalist stronghold. Cromwell's model Army tried to take the Castle but did not even get close but upon the king's capture the castle was ordered to be surrendered and that nutter Cromwell had it demolished. So I wondered if there was a way of a message or event to pop up and say something to what happened. I know this might seem trivial but its just to make it personal. I'm sure other people would like to put in their own bits. It hasn't got to change anything I just wondered if it was possible..

Sure. It's possible. Put this in flavor_eng.txt:

	id = 9000
	random = no
	country = ENG 
	name = "The Castle of Wallingford"  #Name of the event
	desc = "Put the story here"
	style = 3
	date = { day = 1 month = october year = 1600 }  #Change this to the date of the event

	action_a ={

}
This event will happend to England. You must edit the date and put in a text with the description. Try not to make it too long, becase if it's too long you need to hack the text file too.

My experience is that if there is nothing in the command line the event message will pop in and out of existence before you can notice it let alone read it. I'd add:
command = {type = cash value = 1}
in place of Havard's
command = {}
so you can read it.

Perhaps I'm pushing my luck but if I used the first event to actually announce the peaceful surrender of the castle what would I have to do to annonce another one a few years later ordering the actual destruction? Is it possible to add more by just changing the id?

Nah, as far as I'm aware, what will happen is that the event will pop up with a single button-choice, labeled "Ok"

That is correct. What I ment was that you can replace the "Ok" with a different text.

What if I wanted to add future events like this one, do I just repeat what I have done or do I have to edit the text? Once again Thanks for your help Havard, Isaac Brock & Sheridan I'm telling my mates that I have a special version of the game that features 'Wallingford' they are well jealous and until they cotton on onto this forum I'm GOD, (Ha, Ha..)

If you want add more events you can duplicate and change the text (and commands). Remember to change the IDs though - they must be unique!

Hey, in my version of the game, Brittany, Ireland and Scotland have their own seperate cultures, Alsace can turn French in 1675 if the events turn out right, and pretty soon I'll have colonies that can switch culture to match their new owners.

Oh, Havard... is it possible to have a country join an existing alliance as an event choice? I'm working on the AoN, and I've got an event I'm working on that seems to call for something like that. (I might also need to have it leave whatever alliances it's in... it's a matter of joining into a war.)

Also, if you know, how long does a province usually need to be in revolt before it declares independence (assuming it's a revolter), and if a revolter country has more than one province, how many of them need to be in revolt?

Adds nation with tag aaa to military alliance of the country affected by the event.

I believe it's about two years. One province is enough to form a revolter (it has to be one of the ones listed as minimum in revolt.txt) - the revolter may form without all the minimum provinces.
