You had to at least make a sea conection to your chimu province. A landlocked/not cored province doesnt look good. All it takes is a big enough rebellion and you loose all your troops there and will have to enter war with chimu or risk loosing the province...

You could also consider taking all chimu, you'll need a good base when new world wars break up, and thats seems to be one of the last spots avaible for peacefull expansion for now.

The Audacity of Pope!

I've made that joke before, and it was unfunny then.

Well done so far!

I was hoping someone would do a Papal States AAR. Wacky Pope hijinks. Certainly a big challenge.

It's really cool that the updates are flowing like this
Military ratings are the only thing my guys excel at.

And it always helps with the updates if there's other stuff you should be doing

By now the revolt risk is almost down to zero and I've had 10,000 soldiers guarding the place. Right now I don't want to annex them, as they still seem to have quite a bit of cash. But at one point I'll definitely annex them and of course Zapotec/Maya.

Now you only need to find a wacky rule to go along with it. "Cannonized - A Papal State AAR" where you only use artillery comes to mind

Chapter 23: Premature declaration

Dec 1603: In another example of loading hyperactivity the Papal State declares war on us. While it saves us a BB point for the DOW it also leaves us a bit unprepared as our troops are not yet on the border.

We're moving our fleet to Gibraltar to block off any reinforcements. The Pope has about 12,000 troops in Oyo and about half of his fleet is in port there, while we have about 45,000 troops converging from three sides.

Feb 1604: Scandinavia is the first European to get a foothold in the eastern part of Greater Africa

Huron annexed the Iroquois. Which begs the question: Why were they even alive at this point?

Mar 1604: Without better leaders, battles are an ugly thing.

Apr 1604: We're still fighting Papal troops while our BB has come down a bit.

Jul 1604: We've intercepted the Papal fleet trying to escape from Oyo

Aug 1604: While we're mopping up the remaining troops, we notice something strange. For some reason they're still using tech 13 infantry.

Sep 1604: Seems like God's not big on sailing.

Jan 1605: Ashanti Aliens vs Papal Peasants: With Oyo under control, we set our eyes on some vanity provinces. It's also the first time Ashanti troops set foot in Europe (or Upper Africa as we like to call it)

Feb 1605: Greece looks yummy too. Naxos and Morea would be available without bordering Hungary.

Jul 1605: Turns out we were a bit too optimistic and have to evacuate the Peloponnese.

Aug 1605: At least on the naval side things are going great. That was the remainder of their fleet. Now they'll have to walk on water and we can safely start blockading.

Sep 1605: Market places are researched amd we start constructing them all over the country. Our next goal is the new idea at gov 22.

Meanwhile our final invasion attempt almost ends in disaster. After realizing that the Pope can move freely through Hungary we finally retreat to our island sieges.

Oct 1605: Alaska is discovered, unfortunately the new mission is pretty meh.

Meet our new Stadtholder, a titan of the battlefield with a lead tongue.

Dec 1605: With everything within our reach conquered, we send our peace offer. Both Sardinia and Naxos have a manufactory and three of the four Oyo provinces are BB free since they're animist.

Jun 1607: Portugal calls for a crusade on Shawnee. Really?

Aug 1607: We move another step towards narrowmindedess and pay for it with a stability drop.

Nov 1607: The Mamluks are in a bit of a tussle with Naples but in the end the whole thing will be resolved in a white peace

Dec 1607: Our culture spreads to former Swahili

Dec 1608: After another year of boredom we send a colonist to Arica to protect Chimu from Castilian expansion.

Jan 1609: Time for a break. We've got a grand total of 1 BB point to burn and make a healthy profit despite having 10 open colonies.

While writing the chapter I noticed that I forgot to cancel the old mission once again so I rectified that. I hate forts but at least they're cheaper than manufactories.

We've been quite busy expanding. Apart from the conquests, we've also grabbed the three islands east of Madagascar. Hungary and Britain ended up in a war which lead to many minors disappearing from Asia minor and Scandinavia grabbed a few more provinces in India.

Next up: No idea, I already had to end this chapter because nothing happened

You're Stadtholder should have had 9 admin skill, so I stole them again. Sorry 'bout that. Too hard to resist.

Sardinia looks good, Naxos might prove a bit tricky to hold on to!

A lot of good jokes in that last update

Run. Run hard, run now, run silent, run deep. Run, like Mexican water through a first-time tourist. But the key word here is "Run".

I'd love to, but there's still that BB thing. And thanks to an earlier screwup I still need 2 wars to connect the two parts...

That's only because you don't see our giant Uluru Pod in the middle of the PTI. Just wait till that hatches.

Strange, I thought the opposite. Both can be protected by our fleet, but Sardinia has stronger neighbours and is accessible from two sea zones.

I hope by jokes you didn't reference my Cannonized AAR suggestion

Chapter 24: 1610 - A Space Interlude

Mar 1609: Ever the optimists we decide to declare war now, six months before the election. This way we can utilize the military talents of our current Stadtholder and then get a nice peace with a higher BB limit. We declare war on Oman because their only province blocks the northern way around the PTI.

The once proud Mamluks start their wars with 0% War Capacity nowadays. They've got almost all their troops (~28,000) aimed at Damascus while we send 22,000 troops under our Stadtholder/God of War. Now he can show if his spearwielding kind of diplomacy really works.

Apr 1609: A few years ago we enlarged our standard army size from 10,000 to 11,000. Guess why.

Our new cloaking technology doesn't yet work too well in battle...

Jul 1609: Hey! They've never done that before...

Despite being hounded with tons of bad dice rolls, the Zongman still prevails...

... and thanks to an early July victory and different unit speeds the pong happens in stages and is final.

Aug 1609: The war is going splendidly.

Oct 1609: Having reached Government tech 22, we choose a new idea. While nothing especially grabbed our attention, Military drill can't hurt and will cancel out the effect of the difficulty.

Oh my! Maybe October just isn't the month for politics...

Just compare public reactions: November election

October election

Jan 1610: Having built our umpteenth fort, our new Mission seems pretty familiar too. To Rule the Seas again we need to (re-)build 2 big ships.

Jul 1610: After a year of sieging we send our terms to the Mamluks. We grab 6 provinces containing all their 5 manufactories. This raises our total income by about 400 ducats a year and pushes us about 2 points above the BB limit.

Aug 1610: 3 days later the obligatory Chimu war starts. Why does their mission help us more than our own missions?

While Swahili also has a mission that would require them to attack us, they seem a lot more timid (or realistic)

Tellers at the Bank of Chimu used to be a lot more customer friendly in the old days.

Sep 1610: Scandinavia keeps spreading mischief in India.

Dec 1610: And here's the usual Chimu peace. They've now loaned us 12,500 ducats.

Candar warns us. Why is it always the smallest gagh that barks the loudest?

Jan 1611: Actually I liked it better when only the small ones got cocky... This war will start painfully, we might lose a few ships and those two provinces on the North coast of South America.

Our fifth spy finally manages to infiltrate their administration. Seems like their fleet is all over the place, we only need to catch it...

And here's the before picture: BB is expected to drop below the limit pretty soon.

The biggest changes in the map have been our doing. Would be nice if we could keep that in the next update.

Up next: A chapter that hopefully ends with another "up next"

There's a fair chance once you lose the South American provinces they'll forget about you without a land border - especially if you can sink their fleet. Then again tuore didn't have a lot of luck when France called.

Do they have anything you want to take?

"Cannonised" sounds pretty hard! I might try something easier first like a stay tribal Golden Horde game

The only luck I need (I hope!) in dealing with France is no other European joining the war. Their army isn't of much use if it's sitting whereever it was when their last transports were sunk.
They've got 2 islands in the Caribbean, Fernando Po (the island in Africa's armpit) and of course those South American provinces
Looking forward to your Golden Horde AAR. Hope you'll turn up the time to core, because right now it actually sounds possible

I can't complain. Out of the big three (Britain, Castile, France), France is by far the smallest threat because they have the smallest fleet and no troops in Africa.
Attacking either the red or yellow eyesore would be a lot more dangerous.
