Play it again Sam: why I cannot diploannex them?

Playing Aragon, 1493.

1.- Tuscany and Siena are my vassals since more than 40 years ago.

2.- I have 195 and 200 relation respectively.

3.- We are in the same alliance.

4.- Nobody is at war.

5.- We don't have royal marriage since Castille vassallized me by event and this broke all my royal marriages. Afterwards I canceled my vassallization with castillians but I can't restore my royal marriages with the italian minors because they are already my vassals. Anyway I think royal marriage is not a condition for diploannexing.

So, the eternal question: why I cannot diploannex them? (the menu option is disabled)

yup

you need the land border and you don't need a RM

Its just a way to see who you will be able to diploannex.

As France you can have a RM with Spain therefore you would be able to ( theoreticly

) diploannex them

You can't have a royal marriage with Algiers and therefore you will never be able to diploannex them.

You can vassalize Algiers through a peace treaty and afterwards (theoretically

) diploannex them since you don't need a RM... if you have a land border with them.

that was what I meant in the post above!

You will never be able to diploannex Algiers but you can force-vassalize them

The rule is not that you need a RM to annex someone, but you need to be able to ahve a RM with them in order to ever diplo-annex them.

Otherwise the Annex button will always be grey....

But... once you have force-vassallized them, can't you diploannex them 10 years later matching the rest of conditions?

Nope. You can only annex a country that you would be able to marry, irrespective of forced vassalage.

Or, put it a different way: You can only diploannex countries of the same religion (except Protty-Reformed and Catholic-CRC)

This is completely off topic, but looking at Almogaver's Avatar and my Avatar, it looks like I couldn't quite get that extra bar... maybe I just need to try a little harder.

Aside from not having a land border (which is definately the cause), at other times it may be that you have a leader who is inept at diplomacy. Others have also reported that you need to have higher stability, a larger military, and that if someone else has a 190+ relation with them, they won't do it.

But even if you're lacking all those, you'd at least have the option of diploannexing not grayed out. You'd just be very likely to fail
