What is your efficiency? You're holding way too many provinces to control efficiently with 11 intrigue. Why don't you give more land to the vassals?

Enewald: I do not know if the baldhead is a result of religious education, or why he lost his beard (Guanarigato and Mennad had one) .

A lot of money has been spent on buildings, but each month brings a lot of gold .

Olaus Petrus: I do not like giving provinces not converted and then I do not give the wealthiest ones. However the lack of efficiency and a bad reputation will force me to have more vassals.

It was indeed a very foolish thing to let Yunes go so easily. Too bad it's not possible to imprison someone like in knights of honor. It would have been funny to see Yunes inherit while in prison.

demokratickid: Tlemcania may soon have a new name (*Small spoiler*).

Slinky: I hope they will add a "prisoner" trait in CK2, it could be interesting.

Chapter Eighteen: Civil wars and kingdom reorganisation

Yunes knew that he could not rule such a huge kingdom and he had to rely on loyal vassals. As soon as the revolt ceased in Tlemcen, Yunes granted Kussil the chiefdom of Tlemcen. The religious wars were not finished, the clergy in Figuig started a rebellion, Yunes did as Guanarigato and Mennad had done before him, consequently the province was converted and looted. However when the peasants decided to stop their revolt in order to avoid starvation, Yunes decided to make peace and food was brought to help them. Now that the province was neither looted nor in revolt, Yunes decided to give it to T’awes who was a great priestess and would certainly be a good chieftess.

The malaria retreated in Cebta and the province became rich, despite the looting when the revolt had been broken, and after a few weeks, it seemed nothing had happened. Yunes gave the title of chieftess to Timmi. Some former Hammadids soldiers became outlaws after the war and there were troubles with thieves in Al Djazair and Tell Atlas. Yunes was displeased when the spymaster told him Kussil was a new rival.

The towns in the province of Bejaija in the Small Kabylia were growing considerably, however the peasants in the countryside were not willing to obey a barbarian who did not share their faith. As Yunes was also unwilling to rule people who did not share his faith, he decided to show them that the “barbarian” epithet was not utterly undeserved. The legend of Yunes became nearly as famous as the story of Grignr* though if he could he would have been a peaceful man. The religious conversion had been successful and a few months later the rebellion and the looting were forgotten.

(For those who have not heard about the legendary Grignr, if you like barbarians, pagan rituals and are not afraid of bad spelling I advise you to take a few minutes to read this story)

The chief of Ifni, probably jealous of Yunes’ fame, decided to show his strength in battle. However he was no match for the great king and though Yunes did not claim his lands, he forced him to swear fealty again. Yunes created new titles, he spent a lot of money for the ceremony during which he was crowned high chief of Alger and Kabylia, king of Mauretania. The province of Kabilia recovered and eventually the rebels stopped their revolt. Taweckint was given this chieftess title.

Yunes launched an assault against the thieves in Al Djazair, the remaining outlaws were hanged and Al Djazair soon became rich again. Religious tensions were rising in Mzab where the muslim clergy tried to attack the pagan priests, Yunes defended his faith with his army and the muslims’ power was destroyed. When the province was again in a good state, a new chieftess called Ultafa was given the task to rule this province.

Yunes needed vassals to help him rule his kingdom but he also needed more noble families. His nephew Amessan had not been able to find a suitable wife and he finally decided to wed his cousin Bibya though many feared their children would be weak. Yunes started another outlaw bashing trip and destroyed the thieves’ guild in Tell Atlas. Like his forefathers, Yunes spent a lot of money on buildings therefore taxes were always welcome.

Another religious war started in Tell Atlas which ended like the others, and another T’awes was made chieftess of Tell Atlas. Kussil was not satisfied with his new neighbour and he decided to rebel against his king. He was also allowed to remain chief of Tlemcen but he once again acknowledged Yunes as his liege. Agellid was happy in Marrakech and the relations between Yunes and his uncle were improved.

It seems that falling outs were also part of the family tradition as Yunes and Metta also became rivals. Uprisings caused by the muslim clergy were also becoming a tradition as well as the rebels crushing trips though this time Mennad kept Al Djazair in his personal demesne. The reinforced leather armours made in Marrakech provided a better protection against the enemies’ attacks. Yunes soon had an opportunity to test this new equipment when the rebellion started in Lemdiyya. After the “rebel crushing” step the process went to the step “province recover”s and then to the step “deal with popular revolt” and finally Yunes granted the chiefdom of Lemdiyya to a woman called Tintadefi.

These troubles at home and in his provinces made Yunes thoughtful and he sang these words:

Why's this fussing and a-fighting?
I wanna know, gods, I wanna know
Whys this bumping and a-boring?
I wanna know, gods, I wanna know now

We should really love each other
In peace and harmony, ooh
Instead, were fussing and fighting
And them workin iniquity

Whys this fussing and a-fighting?
I wanna know, gods, I wanna know, I wanna know now
Whys this cheating and backbiting?
I wanna know, oh, gods, I wanna know now

We should really love each other
In peace and harmony
Instead, instead, were fussing and fighting
Like we aint supposed to be, tell me why

Whys this fussing and a-fighting?
I wanna know, gods, I wanna know, someone, please
Whys this bumping and boring?
I wanna know, gods, tell me now.

In the Atlas Mountains the rebels were so quickly crushed that the revolt did not last after the first attack and the province was only looted as usual, later however the prosperity suffered. Fire struck the fishery in Orania, it sounded rather fisy but unfortunately there was no evidence against anyone so that the only thing Yunes could do was rebuilding it.

Sekla, Yunes’ eldest son was married with a woman from the North. Though he was raised at the court, he looked very much like his father therefore Yunes decided to make him the kingdom’s religious advisor despite his lack of knowledge in the matter of the gods. But he felt it would be good to have more kinsmen in his council.

You are too soft towards the dissidents, you should burn down their lands and make them eat their own intestines.*

*It may not be best option from gameplay perspective, but it's fun.

There used to be a mod that edited the .exe file, but until a programmer comes along to fix it for DV and each patch afterwards, pretty much the only way is by opening up each save file you use and adding in the tag of the state you want to play.

So, eg, Canarias is C848 - you open up the 1066 scenario, save a game as whoever, then open the save file in notepad and right near the top add

Code:
C848 = { gender = male type = county dna = "12345678901234" titles = { C848 } }
to the list of other playable countries. Kad, lemme know if you've got an easier way

Hello everyone, since I am back from Brugge I will thank you again for reading and commenting.

Enewald: If a man has too many troubles at home, he should go to war where pretty camp followers may make im forget his wife .

Olaus Petrus: You are right, Yunes may be too soft, he will have to become harder if he wants to be more famous than Grignr .

Slinky: Prestige is quite useless when you only have religious enemies in your neighbourhood or those who share your faith are vassals, it is only for the glory . The income is quite good now but castles are expensive .

C'est Moi: As Llywelyn explained, I have to edit the save game every time I want to reload it. I think the DNA and all the titles are not really important, only the primary one realy matters. You may have the wrong face and only your primary title displayed when you load your game bt otherwise it is well playable.

Llywelyn: Unfortunately I do not know of an easier way . I also had to make Yunes catholic, load the game to create the titles, save, exit, make him pagan again and then reload, it is quite tedious but I do not have to do it very often.

After one week of vacation I fear I will have many work to do but I will try to write a new chapter next week.

Chapter Nineteen: A few good years

During the two following years no war broke out, Yunes reputation made relations with is vassals difficult but they did not try to rebel. There was still war in Iberia and the king of Zirid and Beni Helal was at war with the Turks but in Mauretania things were peaceful. Therefore the realm was more stable, the provinces became wealthier and constructions were undertaken in several cities.

Atissi the spymaster discovered that the chief of Tell Atlas was plotting to overthrow Yunes who consequently laid claim to his lands. Yunes did not want to have troubles with his vassals and though he did not like the ruler of Lemdiyya he thought it would be good to avoid hatred with the future chief. Good allies could be valuable and as Yunes and Agdada shared a common enemy they became friends. The chief of Annaba who was defeated in a fight during a tourney insulted his neighbour, giving him a legitimate claim on his lands.

The chief of Tlemcen broke the dreariness when he sent a declaration of war, the pacification was finished three months later, it was a short campaign but during this time, Yunes found a pretty wench who gave him a son called Ghanim. He was brought to live at the court, unfortunately this bastard was soon ill and his state worsened and he finally left this world.

As he lay dying, Ghanim sand these last words:

“Laying here looking at the ceiling
Someone lays a sheet across my chest
Something warm is flowing down my fingers
Pain is flowing all through my back

Then I looked straight at the attendant
His face is pale as it can be
He bends and whispers something softly
He says there's no chance for me

Life is flowing out my body
Pain is flowing out with my blood
The sheets are red and moist where I'm lying
Gods in Heaven, teach me how to die”

Yunes’ eldest daughter Tayri became a grey eminence, Yunes agreed to marry her to his cousin Urz’ig who was also his marshal when he was given a fair amount of gold. During the wedding the chief of Ifni sent his declaration of war, Yunes was wrathful and it took him only two months to destroy the chief’s army.

These small rebellions were not too bad, for one thing Yunes had a better reputation now and also the war gear had been improved. The armourers discovered how to make light chainmails, banded mails and broadswords.

Enewald: If these fools do not understand why I gave them poor provinces in hills or deserts and why I keep the richest ones they need to be taught a lesson .

KlavoHunter: Welcome, cleverness is not a feature of CK vassals , as a human player I will not complain about it.

Good that those puny rebels didn't manage to disturb the prosperity of your realm by starting a civil war.

Olaus Petrus: With his reputation Yunes may have to deal with rebels again but fortunately no bad events happened.

I hope I will be able to write another chapter before the end of the week.

Chapter Twenty: Development, internal and external wars

The technological development was not finished and several inventions in miscellaneous fields appeared. The Romanesque vaulting became a part of the Mauretanian architecture, the poliorcetics engineer gained the know-how required to build siege towers, and the power of the wind would be used to grind the grain. The kingdom was wealthy therefore castles, mines, harbours and temples were built to improve the defence, the income, the trade and the spirituality of the nation. Yunes tried to improve the state of the nearby provinces Tangiers and Massat, success rewarded his endeavour. He financed a great royal feast to improve his glory.

Religious wars broke out again, first in Fes where the burghers started a riot, the city troops crushed the rebels but they were able to scatter in the crowd and the revolt went on for a few months. Later the clergy in Hanyan did the same mistake and likewise the few survivors stopped their foolish uprising. Tayyurt was given the chiefdom of Hanyan and Zilgum was the new ruler of the Atlas Mountains.

Yunes was tired of these civil wars, and he made it known through this song:

“Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before

Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before

That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land

And I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war

Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more”

Akli was Yunes’ second son, he was not only very good at stewardship, he was also imaginative and skilled in finding new profitable areas of investment. He was very talented at making money and a very persuasive and sharp merchant. He was married to a woman from the North who was called by a strange name: Zwinislawa.

The third son Watt’as was raised by the Maguadas who foretold he would become a great man. When he was old enough he was summoned to the court where he would finish his education.

Yunes and his wife were still enemies. It did not really affect him but it was different for Metta, she was alone in a foreign court where even her husband did not like her. Consequently she became stressed and soon depressed.

Yunes did not get on well with his muslim neighbours, the sheik of Constantine did like the sheik of Annaba and his insults would be neither forgiven nor forgotten. The Qarakhnid king ruled the province of Algeciras, he decided to attack Mauretania to control the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. Yunes sent his troops across the sea and took the control of Algeciras. His enemy did not have the strength to retake it and the troops he sent from his homeland arrived many months too late and were crushed as soon as they landed. Peace was made and Yunes was given the chiefdom of Algeciras.

Yunes had words from his spymaster, it was reported that far in the North a boy had inherited a kingdom, his vassals in the South were ready to rebel and there might soon be opportunities.
