What's the DRM in Dark Horizon? And how does GamersGate work?

What's the DRM in Dark Horizon? And how does GamersGate work? Does Gamersgate give the same freedoms as STEAM does? As long as Dark Horizon is installed and we own it on Gamersgate, can we download and install as many times as we like, just like STEAM?

Dark Horizon is DRM-free on GamersGate. We give the same freedom as STEAM gives, I hope

If you have any feedback pls email us at support@gamersgate.com

quite frankly i think gamersgate gives even more freedom than steam in that you don't need to be logged into anything to play the game.

What about the physical disk? Will that have any DRM? I want to actually own what I buy and won't touch digital games.

I've had my share of problems with DRM (to the point of being forced to look for rootkits...) from other games, but have used Gamersgate for at least 8 different games with no problems. Depends on the game, but most of them you can download, install, and toss the download files on a cd/dvd and reinstall as needed with no problems. My former job required alot of extended travel so I'd transfer them back and forth to my laptop, never any problems.

Re-downloading the game isn't a problem either, they track what you purchase and those options stay available for download through their client. Some people do have problems with their download client though I haven't. As to Dark Horizon, if I decide to buy it, I'll post if if I encounter any problems related to your concern.

So, any word on if the retail version has DRM? I want to buy the game, but I'm not about to screw myself over with DRM unknowingly.

Me too. I'm really interested in this game, but I've just been Burned my Mass Effect's SecuRom B$, so I'm not gonna buy Any PC game w/o knowing what DRM it uses.

I haven't had a PC Game-friendly pc for a Long time, but got a Sweet system this past May. By FAR the biggest reason I'm wanting to get back into PC Games is for games like Dark Horizon; my Favorite genre By Far. But PC Game DRM has gotten ridiculous since I've last played pc games, and I'm not gonna waste anymore time/$ on a game w/ a "built-in / unresolvable problem" like bad DRM. I'm not trying to get info to steal the game in ANY way; I don't even care about having to have a disc in the drive. I'm just looking to be an informed consumer and know what I'm buying, top-to-bottom.

An earlier post stated the poster "didn't think" the Gamersgate/STEAM versions had any DRM, other than the services'. If someone can let us know for sure, AND what kind of DRM is on the Retail Disc, I for one will be Very Much Appreciative. Thanks.

take it easy.

Can't you just write the game files you bought and downloaded from Gamersgate onto a DVD?

From what I understand, you can do that. I believe what the Post-er you quoted is asking (and what I'm asking) is if anyone can confirm/ detail what DRM (if any) is on the Retail disc.

Personally, I'm asking about the Retail disc because any patches that come out for Any game are almost always released first/ available sooner for the Retail version than for a digital download version. Plus, if a Mod-community gets started, its Much more likely that the mods will be "version specific", just like the patches; its also probably fairly likely that most/aLot of mods just won't be designed for DD versions.

Again, if any players who have the retail disc version and know what DRM is on there can let us know, that'd be Great. If any Devs wanna weigh in, even better. Either way, the info will be Very Much Appreciated.

Thanks.

take it easy.
