Game:
-Soviet union 1936 scenario.
-medium\furious
-HOI 2 DD Armageddon 1.2 (VBLV)

Description:
If you await a game where USSR fights Germany till the last man, and somewhere in December 1941, someone like general Zhukov has to sacrifice himself to defend Moscow this is certainly the wrong address. But if you would like to see how the Soviet union breaks Germany like a nut, and reaches Berlin till December 1941, than you belong here. I will also provide you with some guide for MP and how to handle certain situations. An invasion of USA and UK will be included.

Introduction of the Soviet union:
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, also called the Soviet Union, is a constitutionally socialist state that exists in Eurasia from 1922. Emerging from the Russian Empire. Following the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the Russian Civil War of 1918–1921, the USSR was a union of several Soviet republics. The government and the political organization of the country are defined by the only political party, the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (Retrieved from Wikipedia but edited a bit. Mostly was, was changed to is).

Strengths:
-The size of the Soviet union.
-All kinds of resources and many of them.
-Big starting (Underdeveloped) army.
-A decent air force.
-Dictature (USA would be stronger as USSR if they would be a dictature).
-Nice base IC.
-Good starting techs

Weaknesses:
-Starting dissent.
-Many dissent hit events till 1941.
-USSR stands alone (USSR has no major allies (Level 4 or 5 nations) over the game).
-Bad leaders (Especially if the great officer purge is accepted).

Starting issues:
-Ally Brazil (It is actually possible to ally Brazil, all trough the chances are very slim, that they will accept it. You have a 5 percent chance they will accept the alliance with relations of 200. They have a left wing radical government, so ideologically, they are not so far from our own. This is the most important issue, since Brazil offers unique position, from which it is possible to attack USA).
-Ally Communist China (We have much greater chances to gain this ally, but much less time (We have till 1939 more or less to ally Brazil before they turn market liberal-or whatever dont remember), since we dont want to enter a war versus Japan (I will explain this point sometime later in the AAR). This has to be done till the year 1937, but it is not as important as Brazil).
-Get rid of spies (On the start of the game SU hosts 57 spies. And getting rid of them should be also a primary issue. I hope you know how to use counter espionage lol).
-Reorganize the Red army (SU has a big starting army, which is spread all over the country. The best thing to do, is to send all to Moscow and reorganize them there).

Starting moves (Before the first hour):
-I set the slider towards hawk lobby. The matter with dissent has to be done with as soon as possible.
-Till the beginning of the second world war, trade can be concluded by the computer (In MP it is actually possible to get that good deals with the computer, that you dont even have to build up supplies. You can reach 20-30k supplies till the start of the war that way).
-The starting production should be some cheap flotillas. All trough they would be finished in the next months, I dont want them. I rather replace them with 19x4 factories (I could also do 20x4, but I have to get rid of the dissent someway, before the purge). I build them all in Siberia or Central Asia (In the case something should go very wrong- especially in MP, when the bitter peace triggers, GER ends up with a huge and worthless land (Well maybe oil, but thats that). And you can rebuild and counterattack very fast).

Personal notes:
I have time, summer holidays and why not do an AAR lol. I will also continue the one I started before this one.

Maybe it would have been smarter to first clear ALL dissent. Your overall IC will go up as dissent goes down.

Ar you going the Kantantilan way, of all infantry army? That's supposed to be most effective course of action for USSR

Interesting, definately interesting in improving my HOI game..

Nobody is too old to learn new tricks...

1936-1937

Primary issues of the introduction:
The spies for the counterespionage, have started their service on 17th March 1936 (Thats the date I got 10 spies into the country). Getting rid of the spies, should be complete somewhere in the next year. But the money production of the SU is too low, to make it possible to influence CHC and BRA at the same time as conducting counterespionage. There are 2 possible choices. First is to concentrate on influencing one country (In my case Brazil), the second choice is to trade resources for money needed (The best trading partners are ALB, USA, HOL and SPR). I will go for an alliance with Brazil first. At least CHC can help the Chinese to beat the crap out of the Japs. But also if the Japs win, there is no reason to worry. Whatever the outcome we win. In MP, it is bad if Japan wins (Especially when played by a player). Since they can supply Germany with resources and threaten the SU itself (No one wants a front with Japan). But if attacked fight defensively. Germany is your main enemy.

The Spanish civil war:
The really nice and balanced conflict of every HOI2 game. And as all major nations SU also gains an event to support the republicans. In this event we do help the Spanish. But not because we want to support a fellow worker state, but because we get +1 interventionism (Or a free slider move. However you name it). We are actually much better off, if the nationalists win the war. Thats because if we declare war upon Germany, they will join the war on the side of Germany. With this, we have a chance to gain immediate access to Gibraltar once we annex them. On the other side, the republicans are a good for nothing worker state nation, which would not join our cause, no matter their politics and relations. Which also results in the deceleration of war upon them, in order to reach Gibraltar.

Speaking about luck:
Although the most of the game is decided by making the right moves, some luck is never wrong. This luck is mostly represented by random events like private initiative boosts production or military parade held. In my case it was the military parade held event. With the reduced dissent, I was able to build extra 6x4 factories in September 1936.

Paradox interactive presents: Factories make factories lol (Joke):
Towards the end of the year, the first series of factories has been built (19 factories total). And with my industrial efficiency of 110% percent, they result in 21 total IC (20.9 to be exact. With my 115% a short time later in 21.85 total IC). That meant another 4x3 IC series (This time 3, because it was almost 1937 and I need some time to build the army in the 40s).

1st January 1937:
Forgetting to move sliders is one of the main curses of HOI2 (Although it could be easily fixed by adding an reminder event as seen in some mods). I really do hope it will be fixed in the next patch of HOI2 or HOI3. Well anyway dont forget to do it. In 1937 I set the slider more towards hawk lobby and change 2 ministers.

Comment replies:

Enewald-I chose medium, because it is the difficulty most MP games are plaid on. And it really isn't hard.

4th Dimension-Industry is more important as dissent. And with only 5 starting IC, it is killed till Jan 1937 (In that case you are not lucky as I were lol). And yes I go for an infantry army with SPA attachments and tanks.

wilegfass-Thanks.

English Patriot-OK.

Kurt_Steiner-Thats true.

Personal comment:
Sorry for the grammar errors in the researches part.

Highly interesting, indeed. There is always time to build armies, provided you have a good IC :D

Hmm, I dont know the exact mechanic, but wouldnt it be cheaper to simply disband most of your '18 army and recruit a '36 or '39 army in its place? IC wise.

this is interesting, im subscribed, having played a lot of Soviet games myself it'l be good to see how you do, considering you're teaching us how to do it :D

mp = multiplayer?

Well, it could be done, but he will be a bit tight with time, especialy if he doesn't go with purging (I don't go, since one time nearly ALL my high skill generals got wasted by NKVD).

So you are building tanks. I asumed you won't, since infantry is more effective IC TC battle wise. One of nice additions of bit longer battles (due to mostly INF armies (only expert generals such as Zhukov, Tukačevski, Konev and ect hat tanks)) was that by the time I winished Germany (Cehoslovakia remained neutral, so I went counterclock wise around it), most of divisions had one star of exp, and many two. If you do it right you will gain a HIGHLY expirienced army AND leaders.

1937-1938

Spanish civil war ends, an important experience:
The Spanish civil war has ended relatively fast, with the victory of the Republicans (As it normally does. Well at least 75% of times-when I play). Because we were supporting them, we get some money (Which will be used to persuade Brazil to join my alliance) and a random tech blueprint. The strange thing is that Germans or Italians get the event no matter which Spain wins (Damn cheaters). And I have to annex nationalist Spain to get it.

Discussing some events:
Rogue politician-As long you dont exactly know which minister is the one that would die (And what his function is), decline the event. The event should only be accepted, if the name of the minister is Joseph Stalin (If Joseph Stalin dies, that means +5% IC efficiency, the officer purge event will never happen and your nation can actually be couped, into a more humanist government lol. If you want to help SU than kill Joseph Stalin).

Political plunder-Same as before, just that you dont get any dissent if you decline it.

Soviet union gears up for war-Man just has to love this event, because it is actually the only event of the kind, that actually stays forever (Japan also gets the Pearl harbor event, but it soon disappears).

Brazil changes government-Watch out for this event, and dont influence Brazil as long it isn't over, and their government stays uncharged. Because it would really sux, that you would use up much money for nothing on the end.

Z like operation Zet:
Also an event in which we help a nation, which lands we dont want. But we do it out of 2 reasons. First, than more the JAP and CHI fight, than better for us. When I clean up with the allies, I can start the operation August stormx5. And the second reason is that we get interventionism and hawk lobby for free (Dont miss the 500 money, you have to sacrifice. This may slow down the research, but the SU is known for its sacrifices). And I never seen that Japan hasn't accepted the Inner Mongolia event.

Factories produce factories part II and the next year:
I produced enough industry, so in May 4x3 factories were given into construction and 5x3 in November. I plan to finish the factories somewhere in May 1940 (I have a whole year to build infantry after that). In 1938 I finally finish with the hawk lobby slider and did I already mention, that I killed of all the spies?

Comment replies:

Kurt_Steiner- Well if I had unlimited manpower, I would start to build them from the start.

Herbert West-The problem is the finish winter war. And with that I cant afford to do that. But I do disband attachments and the cavalry divisions.

BritishImperial-Well it certainly doesn't stand for manpower.

4th Dimension-First I play historical (Till June 1941).Second, every army need a fast mobile unit capable of spearheading and covering retreats. And should be there a combined arms bonus (Like when tanks and infantry are attacking or defending)?

Mico94-Thanks.

Deus Eversor-Only one lol.

Connavar-Thanks.

well i thought it'd be multiplayer, its just iv seen more manpower tips than multiplayer tips so far

You are aware that in Armageddon, aircraft defensiveness has been SERIOUSLY downgraded, so they aren't any more those grim reapers that they were in DD. They can take SERIOUS casualties just by attacking larger stacks. Just be careful.

You should try to decline the Purge. I don't remember seeing anyone do that. Keep up the good work. :)

I always decline the Purge, sure it increases dissent, but I'd rather have a bit of dissent that I can deal with than not having good leaders for my armed forces.

Yes, continue. I have never played the soviets in mp, so any insights are noted with interest.
