small update
The patch installing is giving quite a lot of trouble, aint going home before it works. The English retail patch looks like it work so it will come quite shortly..

-----------
Hi,
We will be releasing patch 1.0.3 BETA this wednesday (19/03).

We have decided to release the patch as an open beta so that we can get it thoroughly tested as fast as possible.
The final version will be released sometime next week when we are confident that it is working as indented.

Below is a list of improvements we have done so far, we will continue to update it until release:

- Added version number to front menu.
- Fixed small issue with government description in empire window
- Fixed an issue with the Plasma Blasters shots rotating when they should not.
- Save Games got corrupted if ordering a new ship and then deleting the design before the ship was complete. (This is no longer possible)
- If no ships were build of a design but one or more had already started construction, you could still change design at no cost.
- Leader education was not working as intended. Education will now be slower and it is now a viable option to assign a leader to a position immediately. He will slowly increase his primary and secondary stats. However he will not increase his other stats, so his versatility is limited.
- Living ships triton race special was now working correctly. In addition the science was unclear as to the amount repaired. It is now 3% + 1% per level
- Minor Races will no longer actively intercept players they have not made contact with. Neither will they intercept players who's standing towards them is Alliance.
- Minor Races should no longer demand resources, give gifts, attack systems all within 2-3 turns. Rather they should be spread out more evenly.
- Reduced font size of story heading int the story window. Some of the German text was too long.
- Fixed German translation error (Inhabitable: Unbewohnbar -> Bewohnbar)
- Improved Video player resource usage.
- Added an option to disable in game videos, for those with performance or compatibility problems. (We will improve the player itself too, but it might not make it into this patch so we added this option temporarily)
- Resized a lot of videos to a smaller and more graphics card friendly sizes. (No noticeable loss of quality)
- In the system overview window: Planetary Defense Strength has been removed. Corruption percentage has been added.
- It is now possible to see a list of non-colonized systems in the system overview window.
- Performance when viewing the starmap improved.
- Performance during turn calculations greatly improved.
- Corruption for mineral income was applied twice for the info shown in the System Panel, though the bug was cosmetic an the correct amount was used during turn calculations.
- Corruption for the 2nd. capital was not applying government bonuses correctly.
- When loading a game with a ground battle, the game could crash.
- On some system configurations the game would slow down a lot whenever a battle had been fought.
- The diplomatic and spy action windows are now modal and can no longer crash the game under certain circumstances.
- Sometimes troops were lost in space battles even though no ships were lost.

- When a fleet is on intercept, it could sometimes invade your own systems
- When toggling Health bars, damage etc. in the battleview, the choice is now remembered for future battles.

Sounds promising, and nice to see it's fast around too. Will it be available via Gamer's gate?

I have problem loading a saved game even just a few turns into a new game, so not ground battle related.

Thanks for the update

I thought that the first patch would include some modding tools?

Any work being done on the AI?

A big thanks

Look forward to play this Easter...

Yes, updating from 1.0.2 to the new patch 1.0.3 will not break your save games.

Thanks for the improvements, keep it up!!

cannot wait till wednesday, i got a 5k system 6 player story game going on, it got pretty slow , pretty quick, i really hope this is resolved. Thanks for the feature for unconquered systems (kinda helpfull hehe). I like this engine/UI a lot and hope that you add content and more features, i think this game has lots of potential.

This game is very open for a turn based game, i like it a lot, hopefully it gets supported and improved as i have found a new nest, i have played sins of a solar empire recently, altough very different, it's a bit too dumbed down for my taste in the end. I often think of turn base as game with grid/hex where units can also support attacks of adjacent sectors, this is something i'm affraid i'll have to replace with a 'blitzkrieg' type attack where i multi-task the universe events.

Is there gonna be a ladder with the mp lobby and a clan system ?

This all sounds very good, but some windows XP users, myself included, can't even get the game to run, there's a crash on start up, the moment we click the launch icon.

I myself am using Windows XP SP 2

Pentium 4 3.20 Ghz
2 gig RAM
Nivida GeForce 7800 GS
with the latest DirectX

I had the same problem with the Demo and have gotten no real help, I guess we are a small minority that they have bigger fish to fry. Kind of disappointed as I was looking forward to this game. Guess I will keep my money for now and let them work things out. Looking forward to a review at Gamespot on this one.

Does 1.03 include 1.02? Or have I to install both of them?

1.0.3 can be patched from both 1.0.0 and 1.0.2, in other words yes!

Will we be able to see the numeric values of the system resources, or, at a minimum, will the length of the bars be consistent? Right now, when looking at uncolonized systems, it's not possible to just look at the bars -- because a bar that's half as long on System A as the bar on System B might actually represent a value that's _larger_. IE, System A might have Minerals of 544 and a bar that's half the size of the bar for System B, which has a Minerals value of 250...

Do you have ffdshow installed on your machine, if so uninstall it.

I think this is a problem why the movies causes crashes. Worth a try

actually installing those ddl solved the video problem, 1.0.2 just has the ground troop crash and the explosions slow down - as well as the lockup exiting frm the battle video
