quick question
Hi,
I am playing a game as byzantium and I (suprisingly) have been really successful, so successful I feel entitled to a COT in thrace (the turks would get one after all). So Ive been trying to edit the major_byz file but no matter what I do I cant the event to actually happen this is what I have right now could someone tell me what im doing wrong? event = { id = 3834 random = no country = BYZ name = "3834" desc = "COT for thrace" style = 1 date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1529 } action_a = { name = "End trade agreements" command = { type = cot which = 357 } } action_b = { name = "maintain" command = { type = cash value = 1000 } } } Also I dont know if it matters but I accidentally erased the file and this is now the only thing in it, this is the complete file. Thanks in advance for your help! |

You might be using the same event number as another event (like in another country's file.) Two events cannot have the same ID number.

If you go to the EEP subforum there's a thread listing the Event ID #'s used by EEP. That should give you some idea of the range of event numbers that aren't in use.
I'm not sure you can add new events and have them show up if you've already started a game though... BarristerBoy

Events can be added midgame without problems if they're in files that are already included. Events.txt is only read at the start of a scenario, however, so any changes made in that won't show up until you start a new game, or add the event files into your savegame by hand.
If an event with a given number shows up twice, it'll trigger a database mismatch popup at scenario startup. The problem here is that event 3834 already exists - it's the Revocation of the Union event for Byzantium - but since the old version of the event was apparently removed with the rest of the file, it doesn't result in a database mismatch. If, however, you've already had that event, any event numbered 3834 will be seen to have already happened, so the new one won't go off. Paradox has reserved events up to 16000; any numbers above that should be fine, if you're not using EEP ones or others that get posted in the forums. |

Awesome thanks for your help, im now the proud owner of my own COT. I have another question about COTs if someone would be kind enough to answer it my COT is worth 421, which is about double the size of the largest ive seen the turks get how come? also I expected getting my own COT would devastate Venices COT but it only lost a small amount of value like maybe 100 how come?

The value entirely depends on the provinces you are drawing from. There's several variables here, but I'd say you're probably pulling more or different provinces than the Turks would (and possibly pulling them away from Venice, which would explain their value going down.)
Generally they'll go to the closest CoT, with variations for ease of transport, political control, and cultural and religious alignments. For example, southern France will usually trade through Paris, but if it becomes independent (say, as Provence) or conquered by another power, sometimes it trades through Genoa. And the Paris/Flanders boundary is usually very similar to the French border.
