Role playing ideas

Do you do roleplaying?

Here is what I like to do: As Germany, many leaders including some really good ones like Halder, Kleist etc. have early termination dates. If they are in command after 1. January of their termination year and you exchange them or strat redeploy their units, they will be eliminated. So what I do is, if they had a distinguished career in the game, just before year end, I will let them retire to some more or less nice garrison post somewhere in my Reich depending on their merits. Or let them command one of my cavalry divisions and assign them to the cozy job of rear area anti-partisan fighting.

Some commanders I will let command their historic unit or a similar one, like MJ Bittrich commanding a cavalry before giving him a Panzer command. Give Manstein a 56. Panzerkorps or let Rommel clean up the mess in Northern Africa. Let Blumentritt work close together with von Rundstedt. I also retain parts of the Old Guard for commanding HQ's or even some front line commands. Kabisch for example is a capable engineer officer, and Berendt and Bergmann are underappreciated Generals.

I know it's kinda silly, but so I am

Am I the only one?

Not really, except maybe that I like to have a single cavalry division commanded by a skillful Old Guard and keep it in my capital; sort of the Imperial Guard.

Oh, and twice when playing Germany, I tried to keep good relations with the Netherlands only to have them backstab me in the 1940s and invade the Rhineland through undefended Aachen -- since then I try to keep them alive for as long as it takes to develop the nuclear bomb and drop my very first bomb on Amsterdam.
