Eastern Musketeers - defensive or offensive?

Hi!

Should I choose Defensive of Offensive Eastern Musketeers?

I don't know how exactly battles works, but as I tend to fight more defensive battles, I went for the defensive model.

If you are more defensive than offensive that choice probably works for you. Personally I always choose units that are defensive so that if someone declares war on my I may survive the first attacks from them before I've build up my massive army

Defense pips decrease the casualties you take from that kind of attack. Offensive ratings increase the casualties you deal. Therefore, you should pick the one that fits your national abilities. Most of the time you will not be running out of troops unless you are a small nation, so offensive is the better option. However, if you know you are going to face a better led, low grade army, the defensive regiments might be able to last longer, allowing a good dice roll to come up.

Still waiting for my game to arrive
But I have an article about battles, but I'm too lazy to try to understand it fully

Thanks!
Well, I can hardly run out of manpower, but the speed of reinforcing regiments is a limiting factor.

I had a similar question.

I'm playing as a small country and generally have to fight nations that outnumber me in military strength and manpower reserves.

I chose the defensive option (infantry: 1 offensive shock, 3 defensive shock).

Judging by the responses above, i made the right choice?

ps. when i fight offensive wars, i tend to allow my enemy to attack me first since i've noticed that when i attack first, i ALWAYS take more casualties.

I assume you are combining your defensive forces with better leaders, or strategic reinforcements. Being small helps jump your AT higher faster, so maximize that and you are right.

Taking more casualties can result from many things. Terrain, tech level and group, regiment type, leader modifiers, and dice roll all play a part, in small or large measure. Overall, balancing out all other factors, attacking and defending do not see any difference in performance, other than the terrain modifiers that hurt the attacker. If you have good defensive terrain use it, but regiment type would not significantly gain or lose impact from such a difference, since the terrain effect is the same regardless of which regiments you have defending.
