Winter Warriors - a Finnland AAR
Hookay.. So this is my first AAR. It will cover at least the Winter war, beyond that... who knows
HOI2 DD 1.3a, Some parts of the G.I.P. 0.6 ( I think ), no other mods. One time use of the "freedom". I'm no native english speaker so expect loads of spelling and even more upper/lower case errors. Finnland in early 1938 ![]() The finnish cabinet and International relations ![]() Current IC and Manpower stats ![]() Industrial Production ![]() (my Industry is geared towards that first Tank division. As soon as that's done with production of supplies will resume. I have quite a stockpile so that shouldn't be a problem. Thge other red stats indicate cancelled trade agreements. Damn Brits )Finnish scientists at work ![]() The finnish army ![]() -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "When the Finnish President Svinhufvud assumed Power in 1936 no one would have forseen that he would lead his little country through some of the hardest times in finnish history. In 1936 the world was still slumbering and none of the great totalitarian conquests had yet happened, altough Adolph Hitler was starting to make noise in Europe, but Svinhufvud sensed that the times were changing and that dark clouds were looming at Europes Horizon. The small but relatively modern and well trained Finnish Army was confident that it could beat anyone in the state it was currently in but nonetheless Svinhufvud enacted a great program of Industrial and military expansion. By January 1938 the Finns had built three additional Mountain and Infantry Divisions along with four Squadrons of Fokker Interceptor fighters that had been bought over the years. The Fins were as confident as their Army. Little did they know what the next years would bring." Excerpt from: "Winter Warriors - A finnish History of WW2" BBC 1987 Thats it for today. more will come tomorrow. *tumbles of in direction of bed* |

( note: I modded myself two IC points like so that I have the same IC ammount liek when I'm playing on very easy )
Presidential Residence, Helsinki, Finnland, Janauray 11th, 1938 18:00. President Svinhufvud was reading the trademark Memo/Report. He had been doing so all day, In fact he had been dong nothing else all week. Ever since he had returned from his two week vacation with his family he had been catchign up. So much had happened in his absence. The bloody British had cancelled all their trade agreements and so the Finnish Economy was using up more resources than it produced, except for the Oil sector where the Finnish Republic had a long term trade Agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabi. But the news was not all bad. The production of Finnlands first Armoured Division had begun. It took away most of the Industrial Capacity that had been previously allocated to Supplies but there was a rather large Stockpile that would last for years if neccesary. (AN: about 900 or so ) The Army had recieved all the Mountain and the single Infantry divison that had been envisioned in the first part of the plan and was now in the Process of aqquiring outdated but still somewhat effective Great War eara Heavy Artillery. However the Finnish resources allocated to this task were limited so it would be a slow undertaking with the most exposed units recieving their "new" guns first. Svinhufvud had no Illusions about who the Finns might have to fight in the future and so he ahd ordered that the Divisions near the soviet border and especially near Leningrad would be the first to recieve their Arillery Brigades. The Navy was still small and rather puny in his eyes although they had recieved a second submairnne flotilla the Surface fleet still only consisted of two olde CL's. (AN: darn I just accidentally hit "submit" instead of "preview" )News was much better with the Air Force. Or for that matter it was good news that there was any news from the Air Force as that paricular arm of the Finnish Armed Forces hadn't existed when he had come to power. ![]() The Finnish Air Force! May they rule the skies! Although they were fliying aeging Fokker Monoplanes his chief of the Air Force, General Jarl Lundqvist and his minister of armaments, Mr Niukanen had been traveling to the United Kingdom to procure the right to licence-produce their Hurricane MkII Interceptor, and he was thinking of ordering the development of a plane that could aside from air defence also be used in a fighter-bomber role. That plane would then be fully developed and produced by domestic, Finish workamnship and ingenuety. But that was still very far off. He was still brooding over the reports when he heard a tentative knock at the door. "Yes, what is it?" Svinhufvud asked It was his secretary. "Mr. President, the German ambassador is here." "Show him in!" Svinhufvud sat upright in his chair as not to appear to that fascist cretain as some Hilbilly head of state as the Americans would call it. Then the Ambassador entered the room. A short man who could use some training rounds with the Army's mountaineers, but he was still carrying his nose so high that he might scratch the paint of the rooms ceiling if he didn't watch out. He skipped the perliminaries and got straight to the point. "Mr President, ve at ze German Embassy have recieved disturbing Reports from Berlin! It appears zat you plan to cancel all our trade agreements! I vant you to reconsider. Ze German Reich needs those rare materials, and if ve cannot get them peacefully...." Svinhufvud acivated all his reserves. He had to stay calm. Kicking that slimy little weasel in the behind wouldn't serve anyone. Instead he spoke: "Are you saying that the German Reich is threatening the Finnish Republic with war if we do not comply with your demands? We are not easily threatened and you cannot dictate us until you're marching up in fornt of the Eduskunta! And even then we won't listen! Now however," Svinhufvud said to calm things down, " we have no intention to cancle the trade agreemnts we have with Germany" 'just yet' he thought " so there's no reason for these that kind of talk. Is there anything else Mr. Ambassador?" The Ambassador shook his head. " No, Mr President." and so he left without a furher word. Svinhufvud's next act was a call to the Foreign Ministry. "Eino?..... Yes, I just spoke to him...Yes, but I expected that. Listen, could you please tell our men in London and Paris that we have to start to campaign for better relations with these two countries....Yes, exactly. Whe can't depend on the Germans... IF they do something stupid we might get caught up in it! Yes, thank you. Good bye." He put the reciever back down and returned to his reports. ![]() Finnish diplomacy at work Thats it for today, folks. More tomorrow or Monday at the latest. That is a funny name, as it means "Hog's head" in Swedish. Good AAR BTW

Nice AAR. And as for Svinhufvud, even Lenin made fun of his name when the Finnish delegation went to gain Soviet acceptance to Finnish independence back in the day.

Future update is about half finnished. I intend tu jump over a lot of time, with more ro less brief intermissions for important events. 1939 is pretty dull until the Germans kick things off.
Edit: HUZAA! Edgar Wallace double feature on TV today. No more playing tonight. Old German b/w thrillers = win.

"Finland, Finland, Finland, the country where I quite want to be pony trekking or camping... or just watching TV. Finland, Finland, Finland, that's the country for me!"
Sorry, couldn't help myself. Anyway, good luck with Finland!
