Jarno's new graphics for EU3

As some of you may know, I've been working a lot on changing / modding the graphics for EU3. Many of my creations are spread out across the forums in various different threads. Seeing as how that simply doesn't work too well, I decided to follow Merlin2199's example and combine all my graphical work (past work and future work) into this thread..

Feel free to leave comments if you see something you like / hate / wish to ask questions about!

I will continue to post updates regarding my graphics work for this game in this thread..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Historical Advisors - 15th Century

From left to right:
 • Philosopher: Martin Luther
 • Scientist: Johannes Gutenberg
 • Artist: Raphael
 • Statesman: Charles the Bold
 • Banker: Giovanni Arnolfini
 • Naval Advisor: Christopher Columbus
 • Army Advisor: Maximilian I
 • Trader: Cesare Borgia
 • Religious Advisor: Pope Sixtus IV
 • Spymaster: Henry VII of England
 • Conquistador: Francisco Pizarro
 • Diplomatic Advisor: Baldassare Castiglione

Historical Advisors - 16th Century

From left to right:
 • Philosopher: Desiderius Erasmus
 • Scientist: Nicholas Copernicus
 • Artist: Michelangelo
 • Statesman: Thomas More
 • Banker: Lorenzo de' Medici
 • Naval Advisor: Vasco Da Gama
 • Army Advisor: Leonardo Da Vinci
 • Trader: Jacob Fugger, nicknamed 'the Rich'
 • Religious Advisor: Pope Julius II, known as 'the warrior pope'
 • Spymaster: Christopher Marlowe
 • Conquistador: Hernán Cortés
 • Diplomatic Advisor: Nicollň Machiavelli

Historical Advisors - 17th Century

From left to right:
 • Philosopher: René Descartes
 • Scientist: Galileo Galilei
 • Artist: Rembrandt van Rijn
 • Statesman: Johan de Witt
 • Banker: Andries Bicker
 • Naval Advisor: Admiral Michiel de Ruyter
 • Army Advisor: Oliver Cromwell
 • Trader: An unnamed Knight of Santiago
 • Missionary: Pope Innocent X
 • Spymaster: Gaspar de Guzmán, Count-Duke of Olivares
 • Conquistador: Peter Stuyvesant
 • Religious Advisor: Armand Jean du Plessis, Cardinal Richelieu

The 17th century advisors above are improved versions of the original version.

You can download this package here: http://www.mediafire.com/?aids91omyd0

Beware: you can only use one of the three files included in the .zip file. You need to choose one for the period you wish to play and rename the appropriate file to great_men.dds. Use that file to replace the original great_men.dds file in the gfx\interface folder in your main game directory!

This mod is still a work in progress, so I may occassionally update it. Several people are also trying to find ways to incorporate all these advisors into the game. There has been little progress so far..

Also, be sure to check out Merlin2199's 18th century advisors as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Historical National Ideas

From left to right:
 • Grand Navy: Detail from a battle at Gibraltar between Dutch and Spanish ships.
 • Sea Hawks: Detail from the surrender of Admiral de Winter to Admiral Duncan after the battle of Camperdown.
 • Superior Seamanship: Detail from 'The Gust of Wind'.
 • Naval Fighting Instruction: Unknown, thanks to Merlin2199 for providing it.
 • Excellent Shipwrights: Detail from a painting showing the shipyard of Batavia.
 • Naval Glory: Detail from a battle of the Third Anglo-Dutch War.
 • National Conscripts: Detail from a painting showing several British soldiers during the Seven Years' War.
 • Grand Army: Detail from 'Attack of the Prussian infantry' at Hohenfriedberg.
 • Military Drill: Unknown, thanks to Merlin2199 for providing it.
 • Engineer Corps: Detail of a painting showing the siege of Yorktown.
 • Battlefield Commissions: Detail from a painting showing French cavalry storming British infantry.
 • Glorious Arms: Detail of a painting known as 'Fighting on Horseback'.
 • Merchant Adventures: Another detail from the painting of the shipyard of Batavia.
 • Quest for the New World: A map of the New World.
 • Colonial Adventures: View of Batavia.
 • Shrewd Commerce Practices: Detail from 'Syndics of the Cloth Guild'.
 • Viceroys: Unknown, thanks to Merlin2199 for providing it.
 • Smithian Economics: Unknown, thanks to Merlin2199 for providing it.
 • Bureaucracy: Detail from 'The signing of the Peace of Munster'.
 • National Bank: Detail from 'Amsterdam City Hall and Dam Square'.
 • National Trade Policy: Detail from 'The Picture Gallery'.
 • Espionage: Rembrant's son dressed as a monk.
 • Cabinet: Detail from 'The Great Meeting of the States-General'.
 • Bill of Rights: A fabricated image of the Pre-ambule to the U.S. Constitution.
 • Church Attendance Duty: A nice view of Canterbury Cathedral.
 • Divine Supremacy: Detail from 'The Coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte'.
 • Humanistic Tolerance: Detail from 'Signing of the Declaration of Indepence'.
 • Scientific Revolution: Detail from a picture showing Benjaming Franklin letting up his kite.
 • Patron of the Arts: Another detail from 'The Picture Gallery'.
 • Deus Vult: Detail of a 17th century painting showing crusaders storming the walls of Jerusalem.

Unfortunately these national ideas are incompatible with Napoleon's Ambition. I will try to work on a seperate package for those who do have the expansion pack.

This package is available for download here: http://www.mediafire.com/?61ykozlnzgm.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Historical Load Screens

(The above image shows the four load screens the way they look combined. In reality, they are four individual pictures).

This mod is still in development, which means I may include additional images in future posts.

Unfortunately this package is no longer available for download. The website I used to host it at is down and I lost certain files while I had to clear out my computer.

If you downloaded this file once, I'd really appreciate it if you'd be able to send it back to me. Send me a PM for details.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alternate Prussian Uniform

Merlin2199's wonderful uniforms are a huge inspiration and since I was playing Prussia at the time and wasn't too fond of Merlin's uniform for that country (no offense ofcourse, Merlin), I decided to make some of my own, as you can see above.

You can download this package here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?fih61zdgjhj

Vauban Fortress Siege Animation v.1

This mod is still a work in progress, so there will be additional updates in the future.

You can download this package here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?cexznu4dmtw

Vauban Fortress Siege Animations - v.2

Unsatisfied with the results of the above version, I decided to rework it and came up with the following.. The grassy fortifications and the surrounding countryside is now a lush green, there's a sparkle in the air indicating spring or summer (the ideal time for war) and the fire and the smoke are more realistic..

You can download this package here: http://www.mediafire.com/?atfyyyabjmb

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rippling Flags

You can download this package here:

Great work Jarno.
I really like the advisors. Now we only lack a 15th century advisor set.

Well ofc Jarno could try, but as he himself links to merlin2199's 18th century set.

Even though his code is broken.

instead of:

URL=http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=284582&page=1]18th century advisors

then:

18th century advisors

So it becomes:
Also, be sure to check out Merlin2199's 18th century advisors.

Jarno could you tell me (or someone else) where to place the Advisor and ideas .dds files? I tried to look around but couldn't find it. I wanted to add the textures to a mod I'm currently playing

Thanks for the wonderful responses everyone! Good to know there are still people out there who hadn't found out about my work yet..

15th century advisors should now no longer be a problem, because I decided to work on that today!

Here's the result:

(I have to admit, there are a few odd choices not everyone may agree with, but hey.. I just wanted to be a bit creative..)

From left to right, they are:
- Philosopher: Martin Luther (Initiator of the Protestant movement)
- Scientist: Johannes Gutenberg (Inventor of the Printing Press)
- Artist: Raphael
- Statesman: Charles the Bold (Duke of Burgundy)
- Banker: Giovanni Arnolfini
- Naval Advisor: Christopher Columbus
- Army Advisor: Maximilian I (Holy Roman Emperor)
- Trader: Cesare Borgia
- Religious Advisor: Pope Sixtus IV
- Spymaster: Henry VII of England (Founder of the Tudor dynasty)
- Conquistador: Francisco Pizarro
- Diplomatic Advisor: Baldassare Castiglione

I will update the post above with the new image and the new download link, so that you can now download three different centuries worth of advisors!

Anyway, to answer some of your comments:

Cool-Toxic: Thanks, Cool-Toxic.. You ask, I serve! (Oh, and I corrected the link)

Noddy102: Thanks for the compliment, Noddy102..

Mavs: Thanks, Mavs! I've included installation instructions at the bottom of the first post.. Thankfully Veldmaarschalk was around! If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Veldmaarschalk: Always nice to see a fellow Dutchman! (Who could've missed that with a name like 'Veldmaarschalk'? For all you non-Dutch speakers; it means 'Field Marshal') As for the 18th century ones, as Cool-toxic pointed out, Merlin2199 has already made those, but I'm still considering taking a pass at those myself!

Thanks for your comments! I will now update the first post to include the image for the 15th century advisors and the new download link..

Enjoy, Mavs!

Mauzzer: Actually, it's a Vauban fortress somewhere in Spain if I'm not mistaken. Fortunately it's in pretty good condition, so I was able (with a minimum amount of correction) to turn it into the pictures you see above..

As for your mod: all my graphical mods can be freely used in people's own mods; I have absolutely no problem with that! Although credit is ofcourse always appreciated!

I'm sure you will, Mauzer!

I've finished another set of advisors! This time it's the 18th century. Merlin2199 has already covered that period with his own advisor graphics, but for my own pack I thought I'd make a few new ones based on my own preferences for advisors..

Please let me know what you think! I think they make for an interesting bunch..

From left to right, they are:
 • Philosopher: Jean-Jacqeus Rousseau
 • Scientist: Benjamin Franklin
 • Artist: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
 • Statesman: Frederick the Great
 • Banker: Alexander Hamilton
 • Naval Advisor: Admiral Augustus Keppel
 • Army Advisor: Peter the Great
 • Trader: James Watt
 • Missionary: John Wesley
 • Spymaster: Samuel Johnson
 • Conquistador: James Cook
 • Religious Advisor: Pius VII

I'll probably include them soon, but first I'd like to hear your thoughts!

nice work! im doubting which are better the 17 or 18
they both look much better then the 15th century ones, those all look to have puffy faces , but thats probaly the painters of those time

Ill think Ill go for the 17th one in my mod if thats ok with you.
2 bad we can't have it change ingame somehow but I guess one can do for all
