That is funny because they are the same order.

The Knights are also known as Knights of Rhodes and the Knights of Malta. The exist to this day.

Do you want to know?

Play the Magna Mundi mod and feel the power of the Knights!

More seriously, SharpAlignment did a wonderful job in adding depth to the Knights of St. John, one of the many, many features of Magna Mundi.

No, CK has 3 knightly orders

1. HOSP;Hospitaliers Order

2. TEMP;Templar Order

3. TEUT;Teutonic Order

There is no 'nation' named Knights of St. John in CK

On a related note, when the Templars were dissolved all of their possessions were integrated into the Knights.

It is usually more practical to just go down to Wikipedia or somewhere similar and check what they have to say about the matter, rather than asking a forumite to do it.

The Teutonic Order (Ordo domus Sanctć Marić Theutonicorum Ierosolimitanorum - Orden der Brüder vom Deutschen Haus St. Mariens in Jerusalem) was formed in The Holy Land at the end of the 12th century. Its original purpose was to care for of all the wounded pilgrims and crusaders of German origin, but was transformed into a military order shortly after its official foundation. After the loss of Palestine the Teutonic Order moved first to Transylvania and then to the Baltic.

It exists today still, but purely as a spiritual Roman Catholic (despite its history of accepting both Lutherans and Reformed) religous order. The Nazis banned the Order, even though they used the imagery, but it survived in Italy.

Cheers!

The Teutonic Order's lands were originally split between the latter order and another group of crusading knights, the Brethren of the Sword who were based in Riga, but the two merged in 1237.

Aren't the Knights listed as Orthodox in the game? But, aren't they commissioned by the Pope?

Indeed one of the challenges of the Knights is that while they are Maltese and Catholic, your capital is Greek and Orthodox. If you go a colonial route you could end up whereby your capital city is the most rebellious of your empire.

they are maltese only after 1523 when the king of Spain (?) gives them the island and after the loss of Rhodes.
They are catholic, no doubt, and Rhodes itself is with an orthodox population

Indeed but the game doesnt account for that- try loading up at the earliest start date and send a colonist somewhere- the created colony will be Maltese even without ever controlling Malta.

Possibly this should be reported as a bug - the Knights shouldn't be Maltese while they're still on Rhodes.

Actually the Knights shouldn't have a culture in game terms, or they should just have all Latin cultures at the same time...

The Knights having Maltese culture is useful for crusading purpose, since Maltese is in the same group as Arabs - and Arabia is where you should be doing your expanding.
