Engineers & crossing rivers

Hello all. Does anyone know if you have multiple Engineers in a your attack force does that provide extra battle assistance or speed in attacking across a river?
In other words if I have 5 Inf. divisions, do I only need 1 Engineer to negate or diminish the river penalty? Would there be any advantages to having multiple Eng. brigades attched to the 5 divisions?

They'll only affect the unit they are attached to. You need a leader with engineer trait to have all units affected regardless of engineer brigades attached or not.

each division gets hit with the river crossing penalty (-40% I believe) and the engineer brigade only reduces the penalty (20% AFAIK) for the division it is attached too

..In DD penalty is different for different types of unit.. Inf -50 % ( reduced by 20 ) Mountain is 30% or 20% to start with...

And Speed for a unit is of course the speed of the slowest unit!

Correct.

Almost true... an Engineer Leader gives his "bonus" (actually just a reduction in the River Crossing penalty, not a true bonus) to all of the units under his command. His 20% penalty-reduction is seperate from and cumulative with the 20% penalty-reduction from any attached Engineer brigades... so an Infantry Division which has an attached Engineer brigade would only face a -10% River Crossing penalty instead of the usual -50%, if being led by an Engineer Leader (-50% River Crossing, +20% for ENG brigade, +20% ENG Leader).

Bear in mind that a stack of vanilla (unbrigaded) Infantry will beat a constant-Manpower stack of Infantry-Engineers when attacking across a river. Eg: five unbrigaded Infantry Divisions (=50 Manpower) have more battle-winning ability than four Infantry-ENG Divisions (=50 Manpower)... even when the higher River Crossing penalty is included in the calculations.
